Love the Guard, Be the King is purely a Fantasy Visual Novel game focused on Romance and/or Friendship, written and developed by solo dev Ligia Nunes, author of "Bear in Sheep's Clothing."

This is a game with extensive LGBTQ+ representation in which you can choose to play as straight, gay, bi, pan, ace, etc. In this first game of the series, you only have one Love Interest, Mathias.

Q1. Favorite character to write?

This changes literally from day to day. I have no concrete answer. Right now it's Lisandro but that might be because I'm drawing him atm. smil

Q2. Which character(s) surprised you the most?

Possibly Devin! They were initially written very. Differently. Than how they turned out. Nazeri too -- they've circled back around to being closer to Azizam, their prototype I wrote back in 2017 who was a certified Mega Freak.

Q3. Are there characters you're worried people might hate?

I've already gotten rank amounts of Devin hate in my inbox and on certain forums. I fear nothing and no one. I do think Idali's going to get the same treatment as a hot mean fat woman but Grug no care.

Q4. Any characters buzzing about that don't have a place in the story (yet)?

🤡 Alls I'll say is watch this space for Book 2.

Q5. Characters who might be better suited for another story?

Nazeri needs to be the alpha daddy/mommy in one of those really really bad romantasy goonerslop book series. (Serious answer: everyone in Greenwarden is written in a way that the story is kind of the culmination of everyone's character arcs. They've all gone through their own Campbell Monomyth by now and are so, so tired)

Q6. Characters you'd want to be friends with?

Not a goddamn one. I think at most I'd watch Trace be themself from a safe distance through binoculars with a beer.

None of these people are normal.......

Q1. Favourite character to write

Trigger !! He's my favourite archetype of "mean tormented LI who is having a bad time all the time". Blorbo comes prepackaged with suffering, just add water !!

Q2. Which character surprised you the most?

Tahira and Siruud both, because they kind of switched archetypes in my head. Tahira was supposed to be like the paladin path against the archdemon, now Tahira is definitely the more sinister of the two 😂

Q3. Are there characters you worry people might hate?

Not really !! I'm just broadly as an author concerned about making sure the less popular LIs still get the correct amount of attention and love, as well as enforcing a zero tolerance policy of "idc if nobody is 'vibing' with a marginalized character, you're going to sit with them as a critical part of the story" but that's mostly in reaction to the broad media landscape in the past five years + fandom culture rotting like a log left in the rain. But nobody's ever said anything except about Zed so hopefully that's over now.

Q4. Any characters buzzing in the back of your mind but have no place in the story yet?

Not in particular, but I've spoken before about my pet crossover where a couple of different setting-based games take place in Sanctum City because I think it would be funny if the tech dystopia also had demons but like, if you're really wrapped up in in the tech side or the demon side you migjt never encounter the other.

Q5. Characters who might be better suited for another story?

Do NOT put Valeri in a kidnapped by a billionaire story. He will NOT have a good time. However DO put Abeni in a bodice-ripper, it's where she wants to be.

Q6. Characters you'd wanna be friends with?

All these people have way too much going on for me to hang out with them.

Q7. Characters you'd avoid in real life?

Gnarl. Of course you have a warped sense of ethics and martyr complex and pronouns.

Q1. Favourite Character to Write?

It's always the one I'm currently writing lmao. I just love them all, so every time I return to a character, I'm like, I missed u baby. <3 Currently I'm in the middle of a Vallerian pov chapter in my novel project, so I guess that makes him my favorite at the moment.

Q2. Which character surprised you the most?

Characters who have been foiling my plans on occasion would be Felice in 8YR and Yvain in my novel. I can't say I'm exactly surprised, tho, because I already knew these would be characters hard to pin down and that I needed to figure them out as I wrote them.

Q3. Are there characters you worry people might hate?

It's not really based on him having particularly unlikeable features, but I do worry people might not like Floris because he's the most central character and has the most pov chapters in my novel. So, obviously, if people don't like him, it's not going to be a very good experience reading the book lol. And I know he's on the passive side, which some people don't like in a MC.

Q4. Any characters buzzing about at the back of your mind, but have no place in the story (yet)?

Obviously, I've yet to get to write Berhane in 8YR and Lagardère in Gonzague, and I'm looking forward to get to them if or when I do get to them (crossing my fingers).

Q5. Characters who might be better suited for another story?

I hope not, cause that would mean I'm doing something wrong, I think lol. I do think not all the ROs in 8YR are that essential to the story tho. Ajmal and Berhane are definitely more involved in the main plot than Zanetta, Felice, and Armine, especially after act 1.

Q6. Characters you'd want to be friends with?

In 8YR, Zanetta and Armine, for sure, they'd be fun to hang out with. <3 In Gonzague, Nevers is obviously bestie material, and Maria from Better Off is supportive to a fault, so I would love to have them as a friend too. And in the novel, there's Prince Vallerian, who's a sweetheart, and I think I would get along with Floris. There's also this minor character, Moira, who's just very friendly lol.

Q7. Characters you'd avoid IRL?

Gonzague and Peyrolles, for obvious murderous reasons... But I think I wouldn't like being around Yvain either, they're too confrontational for my liking.

I guess imxa hasn't been in it very much yet?? which will be rectified in future updates...there's also a couple of characters who will come into it later who are significant but that's spoilers:)

umm i don't think so?? i guess i think they all have roles to play in the story as-is; leanna & ki-ha and skylar could all potentially fit into a different genre in a way that ivi and the operative wouldn't, but i wouldn't say they're better suited to it.

leanna & skylar!! the only normal people in this fuckass galaxy<3 i also like to think rhaxa but honestly i don't think they'd like me. too yappy:( i'm also Bad With Kids and i think joia would sense that about me. my bad vibes</3
