âit is antisemitic to automatically assume a jew is a zionistâ
it is antisemitic to automatically assume that being a zionist â defined as the belief that jews have a right to self determination in their ancestral homeland â makes someone a bad nasty evil genocidal bloodthirsty killer actually
@staff Yeah, I think it's about time to do something about the raging violence and antisemitism in Tumblr. This isn't normal. Stop ignoring Jewish users' reports.
Playing dumb and misdirecting on this is ridiculous. Below is OP's bio page, if you don't understand how what the asker sent, and how your own response is antisemitism idk what to tell you.
@u-eat-people-ur-a-people-eater idk where you got that random screenshot from, you clearly donât know a thing about Zionism or Judaism. So let me make it clear:
* sending death and rape threats to a person because of their identity is not ok. Yes, even said person is an Israeli.
Are you seriously ok with what was written in the original ask?
* never call a Jewish person a Nazi . You canât call anyone you donât agree with a Nazi either.
I have never interacted with that user , my entire page has turned into either documenting antisemites like yourself or basically saying â terror is bad , Jews & Israelis deserve to be safeâ.
If thatâs something you disagree with, your intention is not âfreeing Palestine â, itâs harming Jews. Aka antisemitism!
* The original ask literally answer all of the 3 D model of defining antisemitism, I suggest you look it up .
* I have never wished harm on Palestinians.
Not all Israelis are this evil persona you made up! Weâre complex , real human beings . Dehumanising & generalising us all is racism = racism against Jews = antisemitism.
Having this weird fixation& double standard only when it comes to Israel is in fact antisemitism.
Hope you now understand! If not, get off my posts .

New York Magazine spent an issue mapping Southwest Asian and North African New York and could not find the Jews of Aleppo, Baghdad, or Sana'
Itâs something that you can only do in New York City. At least, thatâs my opinion. Explore any culinary scene in the world, and you can do it within the five boroughs. When I lived in the city, I ate my way around the Middle East without once thinking about the politics. It was my way of being in the region from afar.
Miznon or Taim on the way home, Miss Ada or Laser Wolf when someone else was paying, 12 Chairs when I wanted jachnun on a weekend. Not only Israeli places. There was also King of Falafel and Shawarma in Astoria, the most Palestinian establishment I have been to in North America, where I was careful not to talk politics.
Israeli food tells the story of where Jews were forced to leave and where they found new homes. It might be the only cuisine where someone thought to put hummus on an Austrian schnitzel, and it works. Not only does it work, but itâs delicious.
There is also kubbeh in beet soup, which you have to eat with rice, at a spot on Sixth Avenue called Kubeh. Iraqi Jewish food, my familyâs food, sold in Manhattan to people who mostly had no idea. It reminded me of my grandmotherâs kitchen, though hers was always better.
I was once brave enough to try rolling kubbeh in our apartment on the Upper East Side, but the dumplings came apart in the pot. I wanted to impress my girlfriend (now, my wife) and failed miserably.
That was when I understood I did not have my savtaâs technique, and neither does my father. He settles for the occasional omelet and challah French toast.
Melanie Shurka, who opened Kubeh, did the smart thing. After she looked for that technique in cookbooks and found almost nothing, she flew to Israel to learn it from Kurdish, Iraqi, and Persian women, because their kitchens are the only places it survives. Their expulsion is the reason it does.
New York Magazine has now published an entire issue about that world, and it has a rule about which Jews belong to it.
The issue is called Habibi City, and the cover story is by Zaina Arafat. Partway through, she stops to define the term on which the whole package rests. Belonging to the SWANA community (Southwest Asia and North Africa), she writes, meant holding a set of common beliefs: Palestinian human rights, Gaza as a genocide, social justice over capital, caring as nonnegotiable.
Only one of those beliefs is a test. In the piece, Arafat describes Kimia Zakerinâs Farsi Club, which started after the Woman Life Freedom marches in Washington Square. She also interviews El Atigh Abba, the owner of a Crown Heights cafĂŠ, who cannot return to Mauritania because a fatwa was issued against him for his writing about the Arab Spring.
Neither Kimia nor El Atigh risk their place in the SWANA community by speaking out against their regimes, nor would they lose it by staying silent. Israel is, of course, the only country where that determines membership.
In the essay, every Jew is described as anti-Zionist, an Arab Jew, or as someoneâs non-Zionist partner. That label comes first and is what lets them be included. To be a Jew in Habibi City, you have to answer the Israel question the âright way.â Criticizing the Netanyahu government isnât enough for Arafat; most Israelis I know do that all the time. The real test is about the state itself, whether it should exist at all, and no other group faces that kind of standard.
Arafat knows this. She grants that Israel is geographically part of the region, but that is where it ends: topographic acceptance. Whether Israelis can claim a connection depends on the politics surrounding SWANA, and on a personâs ethnic background. She has just raised the Mizrahi question, and she leaves it where it fell.
About 75,000 Syrian Jews live half an hour from Abbaâs cafĂŠ. They came from Aleppo and Damascus in the early 1900s and settled along Ocean Parkway in South Brooklyn. Syrian-American writer Joseph Sutton called what they built Aleppo in Flatbush. Later, the community took in Egyptians, Moroccans, and Persians as each of those countries forced out its Jews. Shaare Zion is a synagogue on Ocean Parkway, with a dome visible from the street.
Many Ocean Parkway families are more religious and keep to themselves, which someone will point out. Tens of thousands of Israelis in New York City do not, many of them Mizrahi, running restaurants, throwing parties, and filling the same rooms Arafat counts as a scene. They are not in the essay either.
My family was forced out of Iraq in 1951, along with almost all of the countryâs Jews, a community that had been there for 2,500 years. Their belongings were confiscated on the way out. They moved to Beâer Sheva in the Negev Desert; the city was built mostly by immigrants who arrived the same way
Arafat writes about exile and expulsion throughout the piece. El Atigh Abba, who cannot go home to Mauritania. The Yemenis picked up at the airport and fed on Atlantic Avenue, but not once about the 850,000 Jews displaced from âSWANA.â
Listing what SWANA New Yorkers still face, Arafat names xenophobia, Islamophobia, and Zionism. Two bigotries and a national movement, filed together without comment.
About half of Israeli Jews have roots in the Middle East and North Africa, and they are in Israel because the region threw them out. Netanyahuâs government is a disgrace, and there are things Israel has done in Gaza that are unacceptable, and growing settler violence in the West Bank is a disgrace to Zionism and to Jews. I can hold all of that and still notice exactly what listing Zionism beside Islamophobia is.
The one person I felt a connection to in the piece was El Atigh. He is different. He hosted a Hebrew-Arabic language exchange only to see his comments flooded with people telling him to cancel. He refused.
In July, he hosted a Palestinian singer and an Israeli musician on his stage together. He spends the essay pushing back on his own side. Arafat clearly admires him, but she does not seem to notice they disagree.
So 20 pages celebrating the SWANA diaspora in New York City. The Jews of those countries appear only if they publicly disown the state that took many of them in.
And that brings us back to the Syrian families living on Ocean Parkway in South Brooklyn. They have lived in New York longer than most SWANA countries have existed, and are not mentioned at all. I donât think it was intentional; they were simply not considered, and most would not have passed Arafatâs test anyway.
Arafat ends her piece on sumud, the Palestinian Arabic word for steadfastness, referring to a quiet refusal to disappear. She should know she has spent thousands of words asking us to do just that.
The Jews of Baghdad had a word for it too. In their Judeo-Arabic, á¸ĚŁall meant to stay, and when put in front of another verb, it meant to keep doing something. Staying and persisting were the same word. They were there for 2,500 years, and spoke Arabic for the last 1,300 of them. They were in Baghdad before the language was.

i've just finished that new Navidson House lego set and it has a room in it that wasn't in the little instruction booklet thing, has anyone else had this problem
I know that optics arenât the worst thing about President 47 but I wanna talk about the optics anyways and his insistence on personally supergluing gold to stuff is kind of a perfect encapsulation of why heâs such a weird phenomenon in presidential history.
Historically, the president of the United States has had the double role of being the executive/military leader of the country and being the spiritual leader of the country. The example of the American family. The (supposedly) humble servant of the American people.
President itself used to be a much more humble word before it got associated with politics. It was the title picked because it was used for stuff like the leader of your local horse riding club or whatever the fuck.
Like even if the president is an evil dirty rotten nepo baby, heâs supposed to be just some guy. A very powerful guy, but still just some guy.
Itâs like how during triumph processions in Ancient Rome they had a guy there to whisper in the generalâs ear âremember that you are only a manâ to remind them that this was a temporary honor and if they got too ambitious they would be put down.
A president needs to be seen shoveling ice cream into his face. A president lives in a relatively tiny apartment above the White House. A president lives in tasteful but relatively humble surroundings. The White House doesnât belong to him after all. It belongs to us. The Americans. And anything he does to fuck up the White House heâs doing to our goddamned house so heâd better watch himself.
President 47 is an extremely weird case. Because he wants to be a king. Clearly. But the White House is too humble for a king. Itâs not a white palace. Itâs a White House. Very important distinction. More important than you probably think.
It doesnât even belong to him though. So he decided to act like it belongs to him anyways. To treat it like a palace. And it looks bad and the courts keep blocking him from building his gaudy ballroom with real gold decorations.
Why the fuck are we paying for real gold decorations? Thatâs us paying for it. American taxpayers. Why does it need real gold? Genuine question.
It doesnât. That house doesnât need a ballroom. It doesnât need gold. The gold that heâs putting up is being held on by superglue.
Like his design sense is somehow the cheapest looking and most offensively expensive looking âimprovementsâ that have ever been done to the White House.
Previous presidents added like. A basketball court. A vegetable garden. Solar panels. Some offices. You know. Stuff youâd need in a big house that you invite guests into and also functions as a government office space.
This guy is adding⌠a ballroom? With gold hubcaps on the outside? Why the fuck do you need a ballroom in a house?
Answer: you donât. You might need one in a palace though.
The message is clear. Heâs not even trying to be just some guy. And does that matter?
Probably not as much as a lot of other things that heâs done, but still yes. Because since the very beginning itâs been fully understood that the president of the United States must constantly be reminded that he is but a man. This guy is doing his very best to remove all of those reminders and make himself the cheapest looking expensive palace he can imagine.
friend of mine recommended a video essay that's like 5 hours long about why it's currently a whole Thing for fascists to claim they only eat meat and demonize vegetables etc etc, and it's genuinely quite well researched in many places and contains some fascinating history and has made me feel very weird about my status as an adult who enjoys drinking milk. but I've not finished it and I genuinely don't know if I will because at one point the ol' "you can't say you care about animals and also eat animals" chestnut got dropped by the white vegan essayist and it put such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to leave instantly
like idk man it just feels genuinely parodic to dedicate hours to analyzing how foodways have frequently been used as white supremacist propaganda and then casually toss out an argument that pretty invariably demonizes indigenous hunting practices with 0 regard for traditional knowledge and land stewardship guiding those practices
Every time I hear a white vegan say that I want to throw the rubble of the Klamath Dams at them.
The largest dam removal in U.S. history. So successful that the salmon that havenât run freely in the river for literally over a century came back the next year. Not steady progress over a decade as expected, the very next salmon run they came home. No one alive saw salmon in that river outside the hatcheries kept by nativeâs tribes and the Department of Fish And Wildlife scientists desperately trying to save them. One of the activists who helped bring the suit spoke of their dying grandmother making them promise to bring the fish home, and they didnât know how that was possible, but they spent decades doing it.
The legal basis for successfully suing the power company who owned the dams was Indigenous treaty rights to eat the fish. Eating the fish was the one thing in a century that succeeded in being a clear and legally binding right that superseded the desires of white capital and industry. I have been going to the public interest environmental law conference off and on for 20 years where a lot of organizing for Undam The Klamath happened. Iâve heard updates about every legal tact they tried as they happened, and they tried everything.
There are healthy, thriving salmon, trout, and lamprey in a rewilding and recovering Klamath River right now as a direct result of Indigenous people eating them. Of their legally binding right to eat them. They sure as fuck care more about those fish than any white vegan ever could. They are salmon people that the Creator sent Salmon to feed, while charging the People with protecting and stewarding them. Itâs not possible to learn about salmon and trout in the Pacific Northwest without learning this, and itâs unambiguously racist to dismiss this symbiotic relationship.
The white vegans are trying to get all hunting and fishing banned in Oregon, and thatâs quite possibly the single most catastrophic thing that could be done to the animals here because we killed off all the major predators of creatures like deer and without anything hunting them their numbers will explode, eat all the vegetation, destroy the ecosystem, and then die along with everything else in that failing ecosystem. Controlled hunting of deer is vitally necessary for the deer to survive. This is something Native people know, but patronizing racist savior-complex white people refuse to listen to.
I have a whole collection of Oregonâs Public Broadcastingâs documentaries about Klamath River or the larger story of fish and people in the region. If you watch nothing else, watch Klamath Dams Are Coming Out, First Salmon Ceremony, After The Dams, and First Decent (Native made). It could not be clearer that the salmon are being protected and nourished by the people who eat them, and that stewardship is a massive part of their creation myths. But it contradicts political vegan dogma so they donât listen.
#also do you have any idea how much conservation is funded by people who want to eat those animals#at least in the us anytime someone buys ammo or hunting equipment or hunting licenses that money goes directly to state wildlife agencies
If you really care about preventing government tyranny, your #1 priority must be making sure criminals have rights.
And that's not a joke or an exaggeration.
If criminals don't have rights, then all the government has to do is find some excuse to label people as criminals, and those people will no longer have rights. It's what literally every tyrannical government in all of history has done.
If you believe that people who break the law should forfeit their rights, you're literally as pro-tyranny as a person can get.
So--when I was in my mid-twenties and the Disaster Ex tried to make me kill myself, the local mental hospital didn't have any beds open in the usual ward for attempted suicides.
What they did have was a single spare bed in the small, comfortable, quiet, wildly expensive facility for girls with eating disorders.
They asked each of the young women currently living there if it was acceptable that I might occupy a bed in one of the rooms for a while, just the long weekend while I was waiting for a doctor's evaluation. I hadn't been violent, I had gone with the cops without putting up any fight at all, and I was still and I was small and all those things were sufficient for me to be deemed safe. So up they sent me, to somewhere high in Western Psych, above the smells and sounds of the denser-packed wards, above where the care workers were harried and frustrated, to a gentle space with seven or eight young women in it.
I was five foot three, and I weighed about 115 pounds. I was underweight for my frame, as a fair amount of that weight was martial arts muscle; I would probably have been ten pounds heavier if I were healthy, with the amount of activity I got.
I was at least two inches shorter than pretty much every other young woman there, six or seven inches shorter than one of them, and I had at least thirty pounds on several of them. The tallest was not allowed to walk, she had to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, because her condition was so advanced that the motion would undo what good her hard work had done.
And over the course of the four or five days I was there, multiple of them came up to me alone to quietly tell me that I had the *perfect* body, and they wished they could be as skinny as I was. That I needed to live, because I was beautiful, and if they were as beautiful as I was, they wouldn't need to be here.
Their eyes were on me all the time, in the hours that I wasn't sleeping. I spent a lot of time sleeping, and we took our meals separately (I not needing to be monitored while I ate, and not having my food weighed), but we spent a fair amount of time sitting around in the little shared living room space, talking about movies and magazines and books we'd loved, talking about our families. I didn't talk about my family; they didn't pry.
They were all so fucking nice.
And I could have broken any one of them over my narrow knee.
They each thought they were bigger than I was.
Their brains lied to them, every time they looked at a mirror. Every time they looked down at their own thighs. What they saw was not what I could see. They had bright, beautiful eyes in dark hollows, and I could count their vertebrae, could see their ribs winging when they breathed, could see the motion of every tendon on the backs of their hands.
They weren't celebrities. They weren't being paid to have particular bodies, nor were they deep in the toxic sea of having strangers take photos of them to sell to gossip rags if they stepped out of doors in old jeans. They had families and loved ones who were doing everything that they could to protect them, to uplift them and help them be healthy. They were just everyday people--a nurse, a couple of students, a couple of recent college grads, a young woman who had decided it was time to really get help because she wanted to be a mother--and still they'd been so injured by the neverending fucking deluge of body-image bullshit that they were dying of it.
That was in 2009. Things are worse now.
I think about them still. I hope that they're all right.
And in case some people aren't aware: anorexia is deadly. There is a point at which your body looses the ability to digest food and you are no longer capable of improving.
