First of all your page is amazing and it helps a lot. I started sharing what i write on a personal tumblr page because i need some opinions and help. I hope that one day i'll be good enough to write a full story, But as i said i need opinions. Can you give me any tips or tell me how to reach a wider number of people?
Thanks! And thanks for writing. In my experience the best way to get feedback and opinions on your writing is to offer to trade with other writers. So, first step, find and connect with other writers. Follow them. Comment on and reblog their stuff. Send them messages telling them if you like their blog or their writing. It takes time, but eventually you will meet other writers on this site, at which point you can approach people and ask if they will trade feedback with you.
Second, look outside of Tumblr. There are quite a few free websites that are set up for people to trade feedback on their writing. For sci/fi and fantasy, try Critters Critique Group. Thereās also places like Critique Circle and Scribophile. A search for āonline critique groupā will point you in the right direction. Also look for Facebook groups for writers. That can be another good place to meet people who might want to trade feedback.
Out in the real world, you can also try to meet writers locally. Go to readings, writing groups, or classes in your town. Talk to your friends and acquaintances about your writing, and let them know youāre looking for writing and critiquing partners.
Again, it can take time, but if you focus on meeting and making friends with other writers, eventually you will have lots of potential people to give you opinions on your writing and trade feedback with.
Hope this helps!
Do you know of any tips to writing dynamic, realistic sibling relationships? Iām an only child myself, so I donāt always understand all the nitty-gritty details of how siblings interact, for better or for worse.
Iām an only child, too, so I canāt help you there. :) BUT I can give you some ideas about how to do research for your story:
Interview a friend who has siblings. Ask them general questions about sibling relationships, as well as questions that relate to your particular characters.
Get someone with a sibling to read your story and point out anything that seems unrealistic.
Read books that feature sibling relationships. See how other writers have portrayed siblings in literature.
If possible, spend some time with siblings that are about the age of your characters and take notes about how they interact.
Talk to parents that have multiple kids. They will give you a whole new perspective about sibling relationships that the siblings themselves might not have.
Lastly, while research is important, remember that a sibling relationships can be as individual and unique as the siblings themselves. While there may be some things that are similar across all siblings, ultimately your characters are individuals. Think about some of the stereotypes about only childrenādo you relate to all of them? Iād guess that some of them ring true, but others donāt. Donāt make the mistake of overcompensating for your lack of direct experience with siblings by making your characters too stereotypical.
Ok, thatās all Iāve got. Hope this helps!
