Is New Zealand really expensive? I hear the standarts are pretty high. I saw you've answered a question about living expenses. How do you find the natives? Are most people rich?

Thanks for your questions. I felt like New Zealand is quiet expensive. Especially meat, vegetables and fruits were more expensive than I’m used to. But then other things are quiet cheap. So it was kinda ok. If you’re only living in Hostels, B&B’s or Hotels it can quickly get really expensive.

In my opinion the natives were really friendly. It was never a problem to ask for help, to find the hostel or something like this. When I got lost on my way to an accommodation everybody tried to help me. Sure there were rude people around as well, but most people were really friendly, openminded and helpful.

I remember people were looking at Maori’s quiet unhappy sometimes. It seemed to me, like there are two different worlds, which aren’t working together all the time. The culture of the Maori and the culture of the english people is different. And many english people thought that Maori’s are rude, kind of uncivilised and sometimes just lazy. But I can’t say so. I met a lot of Maori and english people and they were all the same. Sure it’s a different culture, but I think you should be at least a little bit openminded, when you’re travelling. So it was never really a problem to me.

Are most people rich? That’s kinda complicated question. I’ve lived in rich areas as well as in poor ones. But I haven’t seen a lot of homeless people around. That does not mean, that there weren’t any. But compared with Germany (were I’m from) it wasn’t as much. I had the impression that people in New Zealand weren’t as materialistic as in (for example) Germany sometimes. They were living far out on their farm and were just really happy to have this possibility. So it wasn’t all about money, it was more about enjoying life and just being happy.
