Ok, so first off I just wanna say I’m so excited for these brothers <3333333 I love James so much already!!!!
So, yessss! While I don’t think we’re talking anything near Porter levels here, I do think that there’s lots of expectation there!! And, in fairness, I picture them as ppl who put just as much pressure on themselves to be perfect, but I deF feel that a lot of that falls on Tom, too, I think particularly as the oldest. Like, I think the parents knew what his life path was supposed to be while their mom was still pregnant and have been working towards that goal ever since. I also feel like their parents 100% believe that this is for his good and for James’ good!!!!!! And I think it’s their good intentions and hard work that make it so difficult for Tom to break free of it????? Like, he doesn’t want to just throw everything they’ve built bc they’ve sacrificed and its all been for his good etc., if that makes sense??????? He feels sort of guilty for not wanting the same things they do bc they sacrificed so much and worked so hard for them!
But I think, as much as their intentions are good, there’s also lots of pressure and expectation - and maybe even a dash of (perhaps unconscious) guilt tripping about it all that def goes on. And def the expectation, as well, that ‘if you do all this, you’ll someday be able to take care of your family and your brother and us in our old age’ etc so he feels like he’s letting everyone down and it’s…a whole thing hahaha
Plus, he loves them all lots and he’s just not a super rebellious sort of person hahaha and he does want his loved ones to be happy so yeah!!! But I also agree that his obedience has def taken some of the pressure off James, bc the parents feel they don’t have to worry so much since they feel like Tom will be there to swoop in and make things right, if that makes sense.
Honestly Tom 100% supports this about James!!! Like, he’s highkey a romantic too! And he respects the hell out of James being super open and honest about that and honestly even agrees w James…but he doesn’t feel its quite that simple. For one thing, he has no idea she’s pregnant, and for another he thinks its pr damn clear Cass has zero interest in him now. And Tom is def someone who believes in soulmates and he feels confidence its Cass. But he also knows how deeply disappointed his parents would be and how crushed Diana would be and he does genuinely care about Diana ++ tbh he doesn’t want to be alone so atp he’s like ‘i know ill never be w cass and there’s no one else for me so why hurt everyone for nothing’ Speaking of which, do you think James ever met Cass when they were together? Regardless, Tom def 100% told James about her from the start and I do feel like James was the person he talked to when he was like going through the whole ‘im in love and im gonna break things off w diana’ etc
Btw, do you think Tom knows about James’ feelings for Lizzie?
aklsdjfkljadsaf James is a gem and must be protected at all costs tbh lkasdjfkjds So honestly Tom is usually a big mix of bemusement, worry, and just…shaking his head whenever he gets texts like that klajsdfkljsdkljfads at least presuming that its usually more ~foolish/silly things~ then like ‘hey i broke my leg and im lying in a ditch rn’ type deal hahaha But regardless! Tom is always 100% there whenever he needs him and he always drops whatever and is there whenever he gets the call!!! I feel like Tom is def the responsible one and he’s super dependable and always on top of like seven billion things being asked of him etc (I mean, not to the Ria degree he’s infinitely more relaxed as a person than Ria is hahaha but he has a lot going on is all) so honestly I think sometimes when James tells him about whatever weird thing, Tom is like ‘thank god someone is out there having fun’ and just has fun hearing about all the stories klasdjfkljsdf

Also ugh w/ their parents it makes so much sense that Tom would really feel the pressure to do what they want since they have good intentions!!!! ++ the fact that they are also holding themselves to the same standard, you know? ALSO!!! that tom feels like it is his responsibility to take care of his parents and James!!!!! idk that James knows that, but if he did, he’d def be like “I can take care of myself!!!!!!” Tom: ... that’s questionable.
Hmmm good question!!!! So, I know James would have wanted to meet her, if he knew about her ... but I guess, do you think Tom would have introduced them?? James would haven’t said anything about Diana to Cass and he def would have wanted to meet her b/c it was clear how much she meant to his bro!!!!, but he would have understood if James wanted to keep it separate until he’d ended things w/ Diana, etc. So, yeah it really depends on if you think Tom would have introduced Cass to him or not?
But Tom 100%%% knows about his feelings for Lizzie. I don’t think he really keeps them a secret tbh but he also doesn’t talk about them a lot b/c it is so clear that Lizzie hates him, he knows it is a lost cause and that nothing is ever going to happen there, but that doesn’t stop him from caring about her!!
haha yeah I feel like it tends to be more foolish/silly/straight up wtf how did that happen things vs. “help i’m literally in danger of dying if i don’t get help” (altho he’s gotten probably 1 of those before). haha honestly james is just such a mess he is w/o a doubt the dumbest smart person you will ever meet. <3
