There comes a time when I have a strong sense of nostalgia. I think back to grand stories which have brilliant plots and memorable relationships. They're unforgettable and I feel like they've shaped the way I view things.
So I stepped back, and looked at Final Fantasy IX. Wow, it was amazing. The characters were brilliantly developed, the story was meaningful, and the battle system was phenomenal. I took it slowly because I wanted to savor every moment of it. So today, I decided to replay it. Even though I could remember certain parts of the story, I missed small details. Even so, I still felt a strong sense of emotion when the story was being told to me. It's always these old stories and games which have an impact on me. I thrive on the old, the past, and the simplistic.
I don't care about the graphics. If the graphics are wonderful, then that's amazing! If they're terrible, then that's fine too. I care about the story and the heart that was put into it. Something that starts off small, then grows into a tree that tells a story through its individual rings.
In Final Fantasy IX, every location and scene is a painting. Nobuo Uematsu composed an amazing soundtrack which blended it all. The stories and characters have depth. The message is profound.
Which kinda brings me to how much I miss Square (Squaresoft) before they merged with Enix. They put so much heart into what they made. It was an art. A masterpiece.
Sometimes I wish I could time travel back. Just to see how brilliant it was back then without having to compare to newer games/stories. Even still, it doesn't really affect anything. I enjoy older games no matter what. Even if most of the people around me play the newer games. Yet I'm glad that I surround myself with people who enjoy the things that I like.
Welp. Here I go to play Final Fantasy IX again.
