howling ghosts, they reappear || ayano & kido
“And an exciting one at that!” This school was different from the one she had previously attended, in a good way. There were many people, but that meant lots and lots of new relationships were built.
“Eh?? So there is someone?” It was interesting to see that her sister had found someone, even though she was rather shy about it. Being the person she was, Ayano could surely make it come out. Just with a little bit of time..
“That’s true,” Kido chuckled softly. “If we’d known about this school earlier, we might have enjoyed it more.” They weren’t treated like monsters here. It was honestly a relief, even if Ayano had taught them otherwise. She was so glad she was back, honestly.
Ah..there was really no hiding it from her sister. “Y-yes, there’s....someone.” It felt so strange to admit, the words heavy in her throat. “I-it was...a bit unexpected but..I-I can’t say that I’m unhappy with the way things turned out.” She couldn’t help but feel...nervous.

Kano snorted and rolled his eyes. The excuses didn’t matter when he’d already caught her. Not that it wasn’t endearing. “Kido might not have planned it but here we are now~” And when he thought about how she’d said before about stalling about his birthday because of cake mix.. Maybe it was about this after all? He could definitely see why it would have taken so long..

She grit her teeth, brows furrowed as her face burned. Honestly..He certainly wasn’t helping her embarrassment any, but maybe that was his goal, maybe that’s what he was trying to do--get her so flustered she exploded. Or maybe spontaneously combusted. He’d probably think it was funny if she got that embarrassed.
But he still had a point. Even if she hadn’t been planning on it, there was no turning back from this situation. There was nothing she could do to get out of it. He had her trapped, and she wasn’t even sure she minded. After all, wasn’t it because of that shopkeeper? Ah, maybe it had been a good thing after all...
T-thinking things like that certainly wasn’t going to help her state of mind right now. Her heart seemed to stutter as he finally let go of the mask, confirming that he was just as nervous as she was. It was..endearing, she supposed. She..didn’t really mind, in that case, as long as he was being true to himself.
She couldn’t help but shiver as the fabric slid over her skin, her stomach doing all sorts of flips as the fabric fell away. She was certain her face was burning so much it’d catch fire any minute now, but she took comfort in the fact their hears were both racing. And then he was kissing her. There might have been something like a content sigh as their lips met as she brought her own hands up to cup his face.
But even though she knew what was coming next, she was still unprepared for the jolt that came with falling onto the bed. She grunted, having just enough time to right herself before he was hovering over her. For a moment, it was hard to breath, knowing his eyes were on her, that for the first time, there weren’t any baggy clothes to hide behind. “S-shuuya..” She mumbled, biting her lip. “D-don’t go saying things like that..” But she’d be lying if she said it didn’t make her happy..
She exhaled shakily, trying to keep herself from shivering as his hand slid over her stomach. The simple fact that he was still asking if he could...it made her heart skip. Honestly, could he not see how considerate he was..? Kido swallowed hard and nodded, bracing herself for whatever came. It would be different than last time, wouldn’t it? This time...This time she wouldn’t stop him.
“G-go ahead.”
“You can?” he asked, hope anew slipping into his tone, mirrored in his eyes as they snapped up to meet hers. “How… How exactly are you going to do that?” He realised then that he knew so very little about this girl – just that seemed nice enough, and that she loved her iPod. Not even her name! But then, did she even know his? Moreover, did something like that even matter? It wasn’t like they were anything more than acquaintances, after all… No, not even that. She had sought his professional help one time, and now he had just been unfortunate enough to be spotted by her in this silly garb. They were still just strangers to one another.
Still, the NEET’s heart fluttered in his chest, and he suddenly felt really light. Everything could still be all right, after all, if she could really get him to his room unseen! As desperate as he was to hurry up and get out of this dress without being seen by anyone else, there was no way he could turn down this offer, and so he was quick to nod his head in acceptance. “Just my room. It’s not too far, and I can lead the way.”
“That’s right,” she answered, bringing her hand up to tap her finger against her temple. “That’s my power--concealing eyes. I can hide your presence, though if someone bumps into me, it’ll cancel out.” She was normally pretty careful about that though. A thin smile tugged at her lips as her dark eyes flashed red, effectively hiding the two. Of course, given that people would generally have the feeling something was missing, they wouldn’t be able to put their finger on it.
“Alright then, lead the way. No one will see you, promise.” It was a good thing she had this sort of power. At the very least, she’d be able to help him out as thanks for dealing with her ipod. “Make sure you stay within two kilometers of me as well, that’s as far as my range can go.”
Kano listened to her protests with growing amusement, a devious glint in his eye. “But you did buy it, didn’t you?” Thank God for said shopkeeper. “Well, it’s a good thing Kido isn’t letting it go to waste~”

“A-ah--wha--!!” H-hadn’t he been listening?! “I-I wouldn’t have been able to leave if I didn’t buy it!” She could have snuck out, but that would either mean stealing the dress or leaving it there, and she wasn’t about to do that! “I-I wasn’t planning on wearing it!” She could try and insist all she wanted, but the fact was, she was still wearing it and he’d still caught her.
She certainly knew he was deceiving her now. There was no way he wouldn’t be at least a little flustered too. She had half a mind to pinch him, in all honesty, if he was going to be like that. Of course, she wasn’t oblivious to his trouble with the clasps, but each tug at the fabric made her heart stutter. And then, as if to cover it, his lips brushed over her neck. She stiffened, a shudder running through her as a gasp left her lips.
If she’d thought her skin was on fire before, it paled in comparison with the sensation now coursing through her body. It wasn’t unlike when he’d brushed his hand over her, but seemed to grow in intensity. And then, somehow, he’d gone and unhooked the whole thing. The air against her back was cold, and her eyes widened as their gazes met. Perhaps in another moment, she might have laughed at how panicked they both must have looked, though he was cheating in using his power...but even so, she was thankful the straps remained on her shoulders to keep her decent.
Kido exhaled shakily as he slid his finger beneath one of the straps. It was a dangerous situation, but there was really no backing out of it now, right? And she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t at least a little...
“You said...you wanted to unwrap your gift, right..?” True, she had said they’d needed to take it slow..but was it...really necessary when she’d known him for so long? “I...it’s alright. If there’s anyone...I-I’d rather it be you.”
No Longer A NEET || ~Shintaro and Kido~
His mouth pulled into a wavering smile at her expression of glee. “It’s just my job,” he said weakly in response to her words of gratitude, his voice plagued by the uncertainty even now clawing at his gut. Could he really fix it? If it wouldn’t even turn on at all, even for a second, he had to think that it was fried – done for. Still, he had to try, didn’t he? So that this girl wouldn’t look so sad. So, how much time would he need? A couple of hours, at least, he figured, to pull it apart and examine each part at length. No point in keeping her around for that long, he figured. And he relished the idea of the nice, blissfully quiet alone time he would get.
“Well, I’ll probably need a while. I don’t know what the problem is, so I’ll be taking it apart to look and seeing if I can’t fix it. Give me two hours and I should at least know if it’s salvageable or not.” And what would he do if he found that it wasn’t? He would have to tell her, but he didn’t know if he could bear the look she would give him if he delivered such a sentence to her. So he would just have to do everything he could to fix it up, right?
“I appreciate it,” she answered truthfully. Even if it couldn’t be fixed, she still appreciated the effort. It was his job, yes, but he didn’t have to help her out. It was a small relief. It just meant she’d need to prepare for the worst. Two hours was a fair enough time.
“Alright then,” she nodded, “I’ll be back in two hours.” Hopefully she still had an ipod to come back to. There was no way she could afford another one right now. It’d mean she’d have to work some sort of job. Maybe even more than one, like Seto often did. Which meant it’d take even longer to find a new one. Unless she could buy one used. That’d probably be cheaper. “Thank you, again,” she added before turning to head back out the door. Surely there was something she could do for two hours to keep her mind off of worrying.

Now it was his turn for flashing red eyes as the phone seemingly vanished and he quickly made a grab for her wrist. She really should have seen that one coming but for his sake he was glad she hadn’t. With a cat-like grin he yanked her into his arms and secured his own tightly around her waist so she couldn’t move. Like this, she wouldn’t be able to use her power either.

A squeak left her lips as she realized his trap only too late. Her eyes widened as he pulled her into his arms, her breath catching in her throat. Her stomach twisted nervously as he held her tight. Well, he’d gotten her right where he wanted her now, didn’t he? Now she was really trapped, and the worst part was she wasn’t even sure if she minded.
Oh, her face must have been on fire. Maybe it’d glow in the dark if they turned the lights out. “I-I wasn’t going to buy it!” She insisted, brows furrowed. How could she not tell she’d been deceived..? “Th-the shopkeeper wouldn’t let me walk out without it..S-she insisted when she found out I was trying to do something for your birthday..” That clerk was definitely strange..and downright embarrassing.
That didn’t prepare her for the shiver that ran down her spine as he leaned in, speaking in such a low tone. A-and what was with that question?! Her skin tingled from his touch, burning in the wake of his fingers. It reminded her of the last time he’d touched her. She swallowed hard, exhaling slowly. “W..well..why don’t you? That is..if you want it to be..” A-ah..what was she saying..!?
“NYERRGH” O M G
As expected Kido’s reaction was so priceless that Kano would be slapping his knee in laughter. But of course other things held his attention at the moment. Far too concerned was he with the image of Kido that would no doubt be permanently burned into his mind. Despite the jump, Kido was now just as frozen in place as Kano had been.
And then he saw her eyes shift and his smile completely disappeared. He really should have seen that coming. Even trying to make a grab for her would only prove fruitless so he immediately turned to grab a hold of the door and slam it shut, that way she wouldn’t be able to get through the door without alerting him, and then for good measure he pressed his back to it. Why go so far? Simply put he wanted answers.
Who said they were going to grab a present only to return to their room and linger around for such a long time in lingerie? Even if she were getting dressed that wasn’t the type of underwear Kido would wear. Then again what did he really know about the kind of underwear she wore? Well, if Kido thought vanishing was really going to work then she had another thing coming. That glint in his eye was proof enough that he wasn’t about to let her leave so easily.
“Aah.. Don’t be like that, Kido. Weren’t you going to show me anyway?” Not that he had any proof of that but he could still tease her to coax a reaction out of her. Not that he didn’t have his own plans formulating in his mind. “If Kido won’t tell me maybe I’ll call Seto and ask. Or maybe Kisaragi-chan~!” After all, who would know what was going through a girl’s mind better than another girl? Then again, that girl would probably think he was a creep if he just called to ask about something like that..
Not that he couldn’t pretend. He quickly whipped out his phone and looked through the contacts. Oh, right! There was Ayano too! “Maybe Sis would know best! Right, Kido?” His finger pressed the number and he even put it on speaker so Kido would hear the dial tone ringing as he called her.
WHAT ABOUT IT HU H
Her heart nearly stopped at his words. She was glad he couldn’t see her, because she was fairly sure her face was redder than it had ever been before. She inhaled sharply, her heart thundering in her ears. It wasn’t like he was wrong--she had considered it. She swallowed hard...and then he was pulling out his phone.
That spurred her into action. Her power faded as she rushed forward, trying to grab the phone from him. “D-don’t you dare!” She sputtered, her cheeks still burning. It felt strange wearing so little in front of him. She’d definitely gotten in over her head wearing this.. The dress would have been the simpler option.
“You’re the idiot that told me you wanted me to wear girlier things just for you..” She grit her teeth, half a mind to punch him in the stomach if it meant he hung up on whoever he was calling. “I-I should have just worn the damn dress instead..”
EVEN I WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT THING.
Kano seated himself in a chair, rocking himself from side to side as he eyed the delicious cake but patiently waited for Kido’s return. There was a huge grin plastered on his face as he thought joyously about what gift Kido could have gotten him. But then minutes began to pass by so slowly that it felt like hours. What gift did she have in store that it took so long to get? Maybe she’d gotten hurt or was having trouble with it? Oh, or maybe she was building suspense!
He folded his arms and considered what to do. Wait? Nah. He rose to his feet and walked lightly over to Kido’s room, pausing before the door as a sudden wave of deja vu hit him. Hadn’t something like this happened before? Like barging into her room and then finding her changing? The blonde smirked. Maybe that was it! Was she going to try attempting cuter but she was too embarrassed?
Well, if she wasn’t going to come to him then he’d just go to her. He’d already waited for a few weeks already so no one could say he was being impatient. He tried the door which turned with no resistance and forcefully pushed it open so it would hit the wall with a loud bang that was sure to spook her. “Ki-do! What’s the hold u.. ah..” His smile froze into place but his eyes widened in surprise. He wasn’t even sure if his brain was processing this correctly.
Had she been in the middle of changing this time? But there’s no way that could be worn under normal clothing, right? And certainly not Kido of all people.. Well, the proper thing to do was apologize and quickly leave, but of course he did neither. It was as if he was rooted to the spot with his eyes fixed on her. At least his smile had vanished with the drop of his jaw.
Maybe he was getting ahead of himself or maybe it was just another one of his teasing, but.. Kido had left to grab his present, hadn’t she? His lips curled into a smirk, but that was just his mask at work. “Don’t tell me.. Is this my present~?”
Y-Y E AH WELL. NYERRGH.
Sure enough, she probably jumped about a foot in the air at the noise. Her eyes widened, lips parting in surprise, a shout dying on her lip. Of course. She should have known he’d get impatient. But how was she supposed to explain this now?! He was apparently speechless...did it look that strange? A-ah, she really should have known better. Why had she let the shopkeeper talk her into it? Of course, the woman had practically forced her to..
Still, the moment he spoke, her breath caught in her throat, color rushing to her cheeks. As if she wasn’t red before, she was definitely red now. Her eyes flashed, and she seemed to vanish..but really, there was no way out of the room with him standing in the doorway. He’d find her easily like this...and where could she possibly run in lingerie of all things?
He was certainly going to tease her for it...Getting caught like this wasn’t high on her list of things to do today. S-so what if she’d considered it? The dress would have worked just as well, right?
Somehow she’d need to get him out of her room..

“Nope~ Not once! I’m just a humble fortune teller~”
“...I see. Why don’t you prove it then?”
I LIKE HOW YOU PUTTIN THE BLAME ON ME LIKE I MADE YOU DO IT. ALL I SAID WAS I DIDN’T THINK YOU WOULD WOW.
“I’m sure I’ll enjoy it then~” He was still a little stung that he hadn’t heard from the others but at least he had genuinely cheered up around Kido. He hummed as he followed along with her to her dorm room and had half a mind to hold her hand, but then before he knew it they had both arrived and Kido was already setting the cake out. It looked really good! He snorted at whatever that symbol on the side was meant to be, but he had a pretty good hunch.
“Huh?” Kano blinked in surprise. He.. really hadn’t expected her to have a gift prepared for her. By present he just meant whatever request he had in mind for her which he was still deciding upon. But hey, not that he’d be displeased with whatever Kido returned with. “Okay. Don’t be too long!” He licked his lips as he hungrily eyed the cake slices.
WELL YOU SAID I COULDN’T DO IT, AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE TELLS EITHER OF US WE CAN’T DO THE THING
....What was she even thinking, anyway? Her attempt to be more girly..he’d wanted her to wear things like this only for him, right? Ahh, but wasn’t this too forward? Buying this had been silly, hadn’t it? But that’s why she’d bought the dress as a back up plan. A sigh left her lips as she smoothed her hand over the fabric. Ah, she was taking too long now. He was bound to wonder what she was doing..last time that happened, he’d barged in in the middle of her trying on a girlier outfit.
Right, the dress instead. Far less embarrassing. B-besides, what sort of message would it send if she stepped out wearing something like that..?
