I made a title card! Sort of!
BOMB-OMB WEARABLE UPDATE
So you remember my last two object heads, right? They both used a cell phone paired to a bluetooth camera to grant the wearer vision. Cool concept. Thing is...that idea sucks. The camera has to be held and pointed, and the feed is lagged by at least a whole second, which is very disorienting.
I want something that onlookers can't see into but I can easily see out of... without a camera.
Did some rough tests and, Enter pic 1 (click through for captions w/ explanation).
Features to be included (so far):
Flashing eyes - (HP RGB leds)
Expressive eyelids - (Servo motors sequenced by microcontroller)
Lit, Glowing fuse - (Fiber optic strands/HP RGB leds)
Billowing smoke - (most likely model train smoke generator)
Spinning key - (Servo motor)
Glowing anger vein - (HP led)
Improved ventilation - (over previous project)
Adjustable head harness - (for improved comfort and stability)
Going forward with the updates, I plan on animating a little update gif as a title card so I can use text posts and put the contents under a read-more. More to come soon!
In honor of PI Day I'll be making a ultra-special, sphere-related update in a little bit!
First one in 6 months, look for it tonight!
DECISIONS!!!
Alright, new mau5 tour announced 2014...do I proceed with Bob-omb head or shelve it and start work on the immensely complex Biohazardmau5 2.0?
Redo this?
OR
Start this?
Bob-omb head sketch
Very excited to announce a new _head is in the works!
For the first time it isn't EDM related and will contain little to no electronics!
It's only been an entire year since my last one. More at 11. (stay tuned)
Anybody see somebody familiar?!!?!!?!?!!!
Peter and Wendy of The Veldt
Deadmau5's song The Veldt, an homage to Ray Bradbury's eponymous short story, is beautiful as it is chilling but the music video is really what drives the imagery home for me. The art style is loosely based off the game Limbo. These are some initial shots I got from Anime Boston '13. Pro-shots to come soon.
Some of the photos that were lost and never posted before. I guess I just didn’t think they were as good v_v
EDIT: ahh forgot to mention that the eyes ARE intentionally tweaked out/uneven. Dude’s got a knife through his head, probably doesn’t see all that great. Idk use your imaginations.
Coming up with a comprehensive cost sheet for basic and delux KnifeHeads
Message me if you haven’t already and you’re interested in one. Looking like somewhere between $120 and $160 (not including final shipping) depending on your options.
KNIFE PARTY'S manager SAW THE KNIFEHEAD and PASSED IT ON TO THEM: "From the guys... 'yeh saw this , amazing'"
They had ALREADY SEEN IT. I really wasn’t expecting any response at all. You never know if fan mail you send off to a music act or celebrity will actually be seen. I was already pretty pleased with how everything turned out but just… wow it feels so cool to be acknowledged.
Btw, the video is still in-progress.
Bloody Knife Victim aka The KnifeHead - My first two serious object heads were mau5heads, and they were a blast to put together, but I wanted to work on something a little different for this next project. The Knife Party logo is cute, simple, iconic, just a bit macabre and, as far as I know, unrealized in 3D until now. Plus I really, REALLLLY like Rob Swire’s projects. I have a detailed post about how this project came together (this project is always tagged Bloody Knife Victim). For details on this and other projects of mine you can go to mordhau5.tumblr.com/projects. There’s only 2 as of this post but I plan on posting some of my older work very soon and I have at least 3 projects planned for the next year so stay tuned.
Home stretch, dudes. Just a few more things to do. Painting starts tonight. Project will be finished in a few days.
Object head update!
I’m 95% finished with the electrical system! All the lights and switches have been tested with the driver. Last night I finished what I’m going to call the “trigger” which is basically a push-button switch hot-glued to a speaker jack and slide-switch:
It sits in my palm, under the morph suit and I can rapidly switch between different light sets, or shut them off.
Here the red lights can be seen through solid white enamel paint (which is relevant). Yeah, they’re visible.
Also, the case I had custom built for this thing came in today :D I had to carry it up a few flights of stairs but Black Hole/Green Sun was playing which made it a pretty epic moment.
Thing is brutal. Heavy as hell, locks all over the place, PRESSURIZED ( I swear I didn’t know that when I bought it)
Custom foam inserts to keep it in place :)
Just need to glue that little piece in the middle to the top part. And I’m not worried about static since I have anti-static bags for every part of the system.
They told me it came with castors. I was thinking those whimpy little plastic wheels on the bottom of computer cha-NOPE! Things are like 5 lbs each O_O
————————————————————————————————-
Anyways that’s it for now. I’m waiting on a cable I ordered so that I wouldn’t have to make it myself lol. Apparently 15-pin d-subs aren’t actually so easy to put together. So once that’s in, I’ll wire all the lights together permanently and mount them into the head (after cleaning it out). Then painting! Then start filming the video ;)
It’s been an excellent night for progress:
-Cut down and mount helmet
-mount fans
-Glue eyes in place
Figured out that Fiberglass resin works just fine as an adhesive especially since I can mix it up in bulk. Only caveat is that you need to make sure to keep the outside plastic cool or the reaction of the resin and hardener will melt the plastic O_O
Gonna order all the electronics stuff later on :)
