To prevent the black spot, allow good air circulation through the leaf by spacing the roses properly. Spray your roses with fungicide every eight to ten days and water them in the early morning. If your rose plant is already infected, trim away the diseased leaves and destroy them.

2. Powdery Mildew

This one is fungal disease. Rose plants infected with powdery mildew have white coating of powder on their leaves, buds, stems or flowers. The leaves become distorted and fall off very quickly.

Try to avoid planting roses in shaded spots as mildew grow well on wet rose plants. Choose a sunny location with good air circulation. Powdery mildew can be controlled by cultivar selection. Plants that are deprived of water during winter usually have a hard time recovering in the spring and most of them dry out. Conducting a simple moisture check is important since it can save your greens during a mild winter.

To check for soil moisture — insert a small spade, screw driver or shovel into the soil some distance away from the root ball area at a depth of 12 inches. Feel the soil, if it is sticky then there is enough moisture at the moment, however if it is feels crumbly you need to water the plant. To keep your trees well watered in winter consider the following tips:
