rory's day was... long, to say at the least. he was having a hard time with this investigation he had been working on and really, his job lately had made him want to pull his brown hair right out of his head. so what was a better way than to spend a friday night after a long day of work at the bar? nothing. walking into the bar, the short detective slid onto one of the open bar seats as he waited for the bartender to come over and get his order. and as he did so, he totally did not pay any attention towards the attractive, curly haired male seated next to him.

your lips brush mine and we bloom with wildflower kisses and pianist fingers arch behind my back and love explodes with color through the garden of my chest and i cannot hear a thing except the sound of your voice as you say everything without a single word.

Levi always had a certain warmth to him, something that made Aspen feel like home. Not in a literal sense though, because home wasn’t exactly a place that existed in the smaller boy’s mind. He had a house, a one bedroom to be exact and a small black cat whom he adored. His own Mother even lived about ten minutes away, but it was in no way a home, it was a house and a house and a home are two different things. Not a lot of people understood that, but Aspen did. He’d never felt that there was an exact place that he could go to get away from everything and know that the people there would completely love and understand him. Levi was the closest thing he had though, and he loved him so so much, it was nearly indescribable.
As the pair approached the counter of Cafe Du Monde, Levi began to give their order, having just rejected Aspen’s request for not having anything at all. The brunette doe-eyed boy began to bite at his bottom lip as he looked over the menu above the counter. There was literally nothing, but beignets. Aspen let out a small sigh and pointed towards the small platter of the pastries, giving a fake smile in Levi’s direction. As Levi gave the order to the person behind the counter, he moved away from Aspen’s touch causing him to feel cold and empty. Aspen never liked being touched or even cuddled, but there was something different about Levi. He always felt so safe around him, like he’d never try to harm him.
It took a few moments for the order to be filled out, but as the woman handed them their food and drinks, a sweet aroma filled the air around them. Swirling against Aspen’s nostrils as he tried to hold himself back from violently grabbing one of the beignets. He hadn’t eaten in two days and it smelled so delicious. Aspen’s stomach growled loudly and the boys cheeks turned a rose red, and this time not from the cold. “Sorry, that’s rather awkward just ignore it.” The boy stuttered over his word as he grabbed the coffee from off the tray, anxiously chugging it in an attempt to curb his growing hunger.
Hearing Aspen's stomach growl loudly made Levi smirk a bit, as he took notice that the other boy actually was hungry. But, as Aspen started stuttering over his words when he mentioned it, the twenty one year old was a bit concerned with how his best friend reacted to it. Like he was.. embarrassed by it, or something. And then it occurred to Levi that he lied about not being hungry, and the brown haired male didn't understand why Aspen would tell him he wasn't hungry, when clearly the feather haired boy was in need of something to fill his stomach. Levi watched Aspen with close eyes as the other boy quickly chugged down his drink. He was drinking it so fast and Levi didn't know what to do. Frankly, he felt kind of awkward because Aspen was embarrassed for some reason, when really, he shouldn't be embarrassed at all. They were best friends, right? They should of been comfortable enough around each other.
A part of Levi wanted to not mention it at all, and make some comment about the food. But then again, he hadn't even taken a bite of what he ordered because he had been too distracted by watching Aspen chug his drink. Levi also felt the need to question him about it, but then he remembered that Aspen wasn't in the best of moods, and that day was supposed to be sent cheering him up, not pestering Aspen with worrisome questions about what happened during breakfast. And then, maybe tomorrow, Levi would find the guts to question his best friend about it, ask Aspen why he was so embarrassed with his stomach rumbling and why he lied about not being hungry in the first place. (But then again, knowing Levi, it'll bug his mind for days but he'll never mention it because he's too afraid he will upset the boy who has Levi wrapped around his little finger.)
The thing is, Levi was worried about Aspen. He always was. Whether it was about Aspen lying about being hungry or if he was upset one day, Levi always had his mind filled with thoughts about the blue eyed boy. But, Levi stayed quiet, until he put a piece of the pastry into his mouth and practically moaned at the taste, closing his eyes at the delicious food. "This is good, this is really good," Levi commented, taking another bite. He stayed quiet the next few moments, taking a few sips of his hot cocoa before speaking up again. "Um, are you excited to go to that, uh, voodoo doll place or whatever? I know you really like that stuff, so. We can leave whenever you're finished." Levi spoke, then pressing his cup to his lips as he took a sip, waiting for a response.
The car ride was silent for the rest of the drive down to the center of the busy city, leaving Aspen’s wandering mind to take full control. Levi was always so protective over him, looking out for him, being sure to punch anyone who messed with him or hurt his feelings. He truly was his very best friend, but in the back of his mind Aspen knew that he felt something more… he’d never let Levi see it though. He refused to let anyone in romantically after his last boyfriend and anything sexually was strictly off limits - but Aspen almost longed to feel Levi’s arms wrapped around him, pulling the smaller boy into an embrace. However, he knew it could never happen with his constant panic attacks and loud screaming over just the smallest bit of physical contact. He wished things were different and that he could reach out and grab onto him, but he just couldn’t.
After Levi had parked the car, Aspen’s mind soon began to return to the present timing, blinking his blue eyes just a few times before turning to get out of the car and head down towards Cafe Du Monde. As they walked up to the line, Levi seemed to be right. There weren’t many people in front of them which was extremely surprising, maybe today was meant for the pair to sit and have beignets together along with steaming cups of coffee. Aspen was more of a fan of tea, but coffee curbed his appetite also, so he’d have to bear it. The boy really didn’t want any of the sugary goodness that he knew Levi was going to end up ordering them, maybe he could distract his friend long enough to toss some of the food on the ground and give the birds a nice snack, God he was becoming desperate here.
As the line grew shorter and shorter, coming closer to their turn, Levi began to ramble on about what he should order. Aspen stood in silence, his coat wrapped around his figure that was much too large for him. Looking up at his friend with a doe eyed expression, innocence swirling around him as he flashed a sweet smile, cheeks and nose blushed red from the chilly morning air. “I think you should get hot chocolate and beignets, I’ll just take a coffee though - not that hungry.” Aspen replied, hoping that Levi wouldn’t protest against him not having breakfast. God, it would be /so/ fattening, just thinking about it made him sick. The smaller boy scooted closer towards his friend, before burring his face in Levi’s side, sighing loudly. “It’s real cold.”
Levi couldn't help himself from being completely shocked at Aspen's actions, even though he should be used to it because they were best friends and snuggling up against each other was a normal thing. But it always managed to throw Levi off guard when Aspen initiated it, and of course, made the tall male incredibly happy. Throwing an arm around the shorter boy, Levi pulled Aspen even closer in, pressing a small kiss to the top of his head. His eyebrows furrowed though at Aspen's comment about just getting coffee. "What? No. You need more than just that, babe. Even if you're not that hungry you should still get some food, even if it's small. This is my treat anyways, might as well get whatever the hell you want. But don't just get coffee," Levi replied, a small frown forming on his lips as he spoke. The line continued to get shorter, and Levi would continue walking in the line with his arm still wrapped around Aspen, hoping he was bringing the smaller boy some sort of warmth. "I am definitely getting the beignets though, and you can have a piece if you would like," Levi commented, letting out a content sigh. It was cold, and early, and if it was any other situation Levi wouldn't be the happiest about standing outside in this weather waiting for food. But he also had his best friend pressed up to his side, and yeah, everything was okay. with Aspen snuggled against him, Levi felt like he was on fire just from Aspen's touch. He couldn't focus on the cold, or his empty stomach or how people might be looking at the two of them like they were a bit odd, to be so cuddled up while they 'casually' stood in a line waiting for food. Finally they were next to order, and as Levi walked right up to the counter, reluctantly dropping his arm and it took it's previous position, right by Levi's side. "Ehm, I'll have a hot chocolate and beignets." The twenty one year old stated to the worker, then turning his attention to his friend standing next to him. "Okay, what else do you want besides coffee?" Levi asked, rocking back on his toes as he waited for an answer. Without having his arm thrown over Aspen and not having him pressed up against Levi's side, Levi could feel the cold air everywhere again, even with his coat on. And if the male thought that Aspen did a better job and making him feel warm rather than a heavy coat and comfy clothes, well, nobody has to know.
“I know. I really do wish I could stay, but I’ve a life to tend to.” Ronan shrugs. As if he cares— he’s being polite, oops?
Well if you're so busy then maybe you shouldn't of even come in the first place, since it seems to be such a waste of time and everything," the female stated, holding back the urge to roll her eyes."
send me a “☁” and i will put my itunes on shuffle, pick my favorite line from the first song that comes up and use it for a starter.
“When the daylight comes I’ll have to go, but tonight I’m gonna hold you so close.”
"But you just got here, that's not very fair." Henley mumbled, her bottom lip forming into a pout.
Opposites attract, at least that was the saying, but Aspen could prove this theory right because right now he was walking side by side, shoulders gently brushing together against the one boy who happened to be his polar opposite. His go lucky attitude and small smile that never seemed to depart from his lips, leaving two distinct dimples marked on each cheek, made him happy, or - at least Levi helped Aspen become happier, and a seemingly better person. He’d had a hard life, extremely hard and not a lot of people were informed about it. Levi was the only one besides his shrink who he could see telling about his past, but it still frightened him. What if his friend didn’t want to hang around him anymore after all his secrets were out in the open? It was dangerous, a truly daring thing to tell someone the dark aspects of yourself. Aspen just wasn’t looking forward to it, he hoped he could keep pushing off his mysteries for just a little while longer.
As Aspen grabbed his coat from off the hanger, he flashed Levi a sort of quirky smile. His blue eyes twinkling slightly with admiration for his best friend. He really looked up to Levi, but of course he’d never admit it out loud to him. ”Oh god Lev, is this a date? I’ve been in love with you for so long! Breakfast with you? What could be better!” Aspen giggled, sarcasm filling his voice as his cheeks turned a bright red, flipping his brunette colored hair which seemed to fall perfectly across his forehead before walking out the front door and towards the other boy’s car. Levi’s hand delicately rested on his lower back as he led them towards his vehicle making Aspen’s stomach flutter with butterflies. The boy batted his eyelashes softly, looking up quickly at his friend and flashing a small smile before the hand suddenly dropped, making his stomach go back to normal.
Aspen quickly sat down in the passenger seat of the car, crossing his arms delicately as he leaned his head back against the cushion, listening to Levi begin to explain their plans for the day. He couldn’t help but slightly roll his eyes, a smirk forming across his lips. “Do you think after breakfast we could at least go to Marie Laveau’s House Of Voodoo? I know it’s a tourist attraction, but they have really nice sage there.” Aspen explained, remembering a ritual he wanted to try in the near future. He tried to push the thoughts of calorie filled beignets to the back of his mind, he wanted to enjoy this time with Levi. It was the only thing that made him happy anymore.
Levi was pretty sure his heart was racing a bit too quickly at the mention of going to some voodoo place. Honestly, Levi wanted to say no. He wanted to tell Aspen that no way in hell would he go to some 'house of voodoo' thing because that shit was scary and the twenty one year old really wasn't into that. But then he thought about how happy it would make Aspen, and how this day was for him (actually, most days were for Aspen, Levi always trying to make the other male smile) and Levi would just have to suck it up and deal with it. "Yeah. Yeah babe, we can go. Let's just get through breakfast first, okay? And then after we can go to that place and i'll get you some sage."
There it was again. That stupid fucking urge to grab ahold of Aspen's hand and intertwine their fingers. But Levi had to push back that thought as the two of them walked towards the counter of the cafe. And really, Levi was sick of this damn urge, because sooner or later he won't be able to deal and he'll end up holding Aspen's hand and making everything completely awkward. As he took steps towards the counter, Levi's mind screamed friendsfriendsfriends but as Levi looked over at Aspen for just a moment, in his coat and looking small and soft and fucking adorable, Levi's heart grew a little fonder of the shorter male. A part of Levi wondered if Aspen had any idea how Levi felt, because he sort of sucked at hiding his feelings but then again, Aspen might just be completely oblivious.
Reaching the line, which wasn't too long considering how popular the cafe was, Levi stood at the end of it with Aspen muttering, "'S cold," to no one in particular as he looked around. Levi then looked over at Aspen, nudging him with his elbow. "So what do you think you're going to get? There's a lot of choices, so I don't really know what to pick. I'm like, really hungry so i want something good yanno? But I think I'm definitely going to get a hot chocolate because it's freezing and i'm pretty sure my fingers are going to fall off or something," the male rambled on, not realizing he was speaking so much until he stopped talking. His cheeks turned a bit red as he realized that he probably just embarrassed himself, talking so much, but he hoped Aspen would pass it off from being caused by the bitter cold.
Aspen wasn’t always so depressive to be around, sometimes he was fun, occasionally —- okay maybe it wasn’t too often, but it happened. Who could blame him though right? His life was an actual living hell, at least to him it was. Things just hadn’t been adding up ever since his brother’s death, not that many people knew about that —- not even his best friend Levi who’d do anything to see him smile. He wasn’t sure why either, he wasn’t all that fantastic. In fact, he was a little aggressive, outspoken, maybe even rude. He was certainly more harsh than his friend and they definitely had completely different outlooks on life. Sometimes, Aspen thought it was a good thing though, they balanced each other out in a way, complimented each other almost.
Today was going to be one of his rough days, he could tell by how sluggish he was, how slowly he moved from his bedroom to the kitchen to grab a cup of tea. Aspen could of sworn he saw Sage glare at him from behind the cabinet, god only knows what that damn cat thought about his mood swings. He had barley gotten any sleep from the night before due to his apartment being just a block from Bourbon Street and not to mention his night terrors and insomnia. Did he ever get a break? There was only one person who could manage to cheer the boy up in a time like this, and Aspen was already halfway through texting him.
It wasn’t long after that the door bell rang, and a small smile instantly grew from cheek to cheek. Levi was always quick about coming over, possibly because he was just an on-time type of person, or maybe he was just in a rush to see him. Now didn’t that boost his ego. As Aspen swung open the front door, he opened his mouth to speak, but his friend was too quick. Ordering that they go and retreat beignets at one of the most crowded places in Nola. “Sounds like a lot of fuckin’ calories to me.” Aspen grumbled as he jogged over to grab a coat from the hanger.
Furrowing his eyebrows at Aspen's comment, Levi shot Aspen a questioning look as he made a comment on the amount of calories they would intake at breakfast. "Come on, this place is delicious. And it's a great cheer-er upper. Plus, isn't going to breakfast with me just enough? I know you can't resist me, Aspen," Levi responded, offering Aspen a goofy smile as he did so. A part of him wanted to mention the calories comment, but then stopped himself because he would probably get nothing but a short reply and an even grumpier Aspen. Levi stepped inside Aspen's home as he waited for the shorter boy to finish pulling on his coat.
Once Aspen had his coat on and was ready to go, Levi waited for the other male to step outside before Levi shut the front door behind them both. The lanky boy had a strong urge to grab ahold of Aspen's hand as the two of them trotted towards Levi's car, but then again they were just friends and Levi would just have to settle with placing his hand on Aspen's lower back instead. (Levi wanted to hold Aspen's hand the majority of the time, especially when he witnessed Aspen in a depressed state, but the boy would never admit to that.) Once reaching the car, Levi reluctantly dropped his hand from Aspen's lower back and opened the driver's door, sliding into the seat as he put his keys into the ignition. The twenty one year old waited for his friend to get into the car as well before turning the key and bringing the car to life.
Before Levi started driving, he turned in his seat, looking over at Aspen. "Okay, first things first. We are going to get breakfast, and we are going to talk and hopefully you will feel better. And then after that, we can walk around or go somewhere else if it's not too cold. But if it is, then we're going back to my place and cuddling all night. Sound Good?" Levi asked, not even letting Aspen mutter a response before Levi spoke up again, answering for the other male himself. "Good." Levi stated, grinning, then pressing on the gas as he started driving towards Cafe Du Monde. Once there, Levi found a parking spot and quickly turned off his car, getting out and walking to the passenger's side, swinging open the door. As Levi offered the other boy a hand he spoke, "Are you ready for some delicious breakfast, babycakes?"
After getting a text from the blue eyed boy, Aspen's name popping up on his phone followed by an alarming message about how the male wasn't feeling his best, Levi made it his mission to cheer Aspent up. And yeah, there were days like these in the past, and the brunet knew just how to (hopefully) cheer his friend up. Levi quickly sent a text back to Aspen, simply saying to be dressed and ready to go somewhere. No details, no description of where they ought to go. And with that, the twenty one year old slipped on a pair of shoes, making his way over to see the other boy who had grown on Levi over the years (Levi would drop anything to make sure Aspen was alright, to be honest. he always worried about his friend--yet he didn't want to make that look too apparent). Once he arrived at Aspen's place, Levi walked up to the front door, and knocked on it as he tapped his foot against the ground impatiently. Once the door swung open, Levi didn't even mutter a hello before he told Aspen where they were going to go. "Cafe du monde. Right now. Hope you're hungry babe, because we're going. Are you ready?"
