Second chapter this week because I am hoping that if I overload y'all, you might ignore how uncomfortable I am writing Royd dialogue (which SUCKS cause he's one of my faves :(( )

i havent read the fic yet (too busy smh) so idk if its come up but: does teen!robert still have the ear scar from the mech? if he does, how differently did it happen?

Fair enough! And Hehheheh! I actually haven't talked about this yet! He does still have his ear scar, and it actually happened in an extremely similar way, but thematically very different.

I'll get into it more later, but when Robert was around 7-8, Chase was keeping an eye on Robert while Robbie was working on the mech in the garage. (They were all hanging out in the garage tho, because this AU Robbie is very overprotective in his own way)

Something something, Robbie and Chase need to do something at the same time and don't realize that Robert has slipped closer to the mech.

Robert does not attack the mech in this AU, since his dad spends a frankly unhealthy amount of time with him, but the stuff Robbie was working on messed up the mech's defense system and just Robert tripping over the tool cart looking at it set it off.

The rest plays out pretty much like the comic, but Robbie doesn't coldly tell him to get up, instead lifting Robert from Chase's arms and telling him to get up in that overprotective dad voice that means he's trying to toughen Robert up.

Cannot stop thinking about the potential interactions between Robert and Chad in your teenrobertau bc it makes their relationship so much more complicated like. This is the person who put you in jail and CUT OFF YOUR FINGERS but like. They were your nieces age. A couple years older maybe. Your niece who is so small still and who loves dancing and if she was ever in danger you'd actually kill someone and who tf let this kid fight you? You who burns and leaves destruction in your path? And worse still when he and Robert actually talk about it and Robert apologizes and says if he'd been better at being mecha man Chad would still have his fingers but this was one of his first missions and his dad was so disappointed and Chad has to just stand there like oh my god this guy's dad SUCKS.

I can't even add to this because you summed it up!

So instead, I'll add that after Chad works through some of the conflicting emotions, he is fully in uncle mode (he's 20 years older than this kid, he is uncle ) and starts helping Chase look after Robert but super subtly because he still has his pride.
