Hello! Hi! Hey!
I am back from a very long hiatus! I have been doing lots of community activism, working on a website for my Brat Collective project, practicing a lot of self care, and getting my band back together!
For people who still donât see anything wrong with cultural appropriation, who still call cornrows âboxer braidsâ, âKim K braidsâ or whatever - our cornrows symbolize liberation and freedom, itâs not your trendy hairstyle, it actually does have a history.
Since slaves were never taught to write and drawing directions was dangerous, because they could lead to them being discovered, captured, sold again or even killed by their master.
To reduce the risk of being discovered, women started weaving the maps in their hair, carving out paths with their cornrows. Some of the patterns even had hidden messages!
Yes, braiding existed in Africa way before, but it got a whole new meaning when Europeans enslaved millions of people. So next time you decide to go for a âKim K lookâ, do a little research before you end up disrespecting someoneâs culture and just, in all honesty, looking silly.

My friends are sooo great!
I had the pleasure of documenting literal magical entity Ahsante Sankofa Foree at Basic Rights Oregonâs Front and Center show in Portland,Oregon.Â
Pardon my excited banter at the beginning. I literally couldnât contain myself!
@ahsantearistophoria You are literal magic! I love you so much <3Â

Playing catch up and making prints for the babes that have been waiting forever for their packages from my etsy shop. Printing resources have been slim/non existent. The shop will be back in full swing soon! For those of you who are interested in my "Knit" print, I'll be listing these in my shop soon. Thank you all for being so patient with me and my easily overwhelmed brain. It really means a lot
âThe trick is to rub your eyes hard For as long as you can stand Push in the good that is the darkness Make friends with the darkness So that when you open those sore eyes You can see the magic that the world had kept from youâ
