“ then go take a nap , ” she advised , feeling that was the most logical step. he could easily end all of his complaining and stress for a few hours just by taking a nap. “ then just go to sleep , mo , seriously. you’re allowed to call and fake a cough or something , take a break already. ” she knew that he wouldn’t listen , but if he was going to complain this much in a coffee shop of all places , it was clear he needed a break. now more than ever. “ i’m not getting you a five-hour energy. if this bitch doesn’t make my coffee soon i’m bailing and never coming back , plain & simple. so , just go home , sleep. ”
He was quick to reject the thought of taking a day off from work. It wasn’t a thought he considered. But then the he tried to be logical about it. If he went to work today, he wouldn’t even be able to give his hundred percent. And he wouldn’t be much help to the clients he was to meet today. Maybe Abi was right. “What would I even do the rest of the day if I call out of work,” he tried to reason, despite her point sounding more and more like the correct thing to do. He was a stubborn f*ck.

‘‘I like it just the way it is, if I’m being honest,’‘ he replied with a small grin. kiaan always liked him, so the idea of not being able to tease moses all the time was a challenge he wasn’t ready for. teasing him was a strong term, it was more annoying him. ‘‘are you going to wait until I beg you to tell me every details of that story? or should I just stare at you insilence until you tell me what kept you up all night,’‘ he mused. kiaan expected something good at that point, not the other studying for 10 hours straight.
‘‘make up something if you have to,’‘ he added, laughing to himself.
“I don’t know what story you’re hoping to extract from me, but it’s exactly what you would expect. I lost track of time—” he paused raising a brow. “If I sell you a good story would you give me your coffee?” He mused, smirking as he turned to Kiaan. “I got in a car with some stoners and we drove to the nearest White Castle. It was a rough night. We had a random raccoon in the car at one point. Anyway, eventually we got some sliders and it was worth it.” He didn’t know why the plot to Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle occurred to him, but he kind of just went with the first thought in his head.

“don’t test me today,” she told him, desperately needing that caffeine. wiith an audible groan, abigail sat down in one of the empty seats, this was going to be a long one. “entertain me, what is so horrible today that you’re about to jack everyone’s coffee? cause i’m about to just go to the nearest gas station, get a huge sugar free redbull and call it a day.”
“I just want today to end already.” It was a new day for most people in the Outer Banks but to Moses it felt like hell as yesterday bled into today. “I just want to sleep and not go to work. I didn’t sleep at all last night.” He closed his eyes, resting his head on the wall like it would serve to give him any comfort. "Actually, those nasty five-hour energy drinks doesn’t sound half bad right now.”

“ 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥 is it possible y’all don’t have a farmer’s market ? ” she’s heartbroken. crestfallen. utterly devastated. no farmer’s market ? what the hell else is she supposed to do every sunday besides stroll along the road, nursing the world’s - worst - hangover until next sunday’s world’s - worst - hangover ? shoulders droop with dismay. “ i get that it’s a small island, or whatever, but damn. crush a girl’s dreams like that, i guess. ” / @banksstart !
“There’s one in Virginia Beach if you really want to be at a farmer’s market,” he suggested with a raised brow. “Though— it’s out-of-state, and an hour’s drive away so I doubt it’ll do anything good for the hangover you’re nursing.” He’d almost decided that it wasn’t his problem. Moses didn’t make it a habit to get involved in other people’s issues unless he was being paid with a legal fee. But he took a second look at the girl and couldn’t leave her to suffer alone. “If you wanna know my Sunday hangover cure— Decko’s has yet to fail me.” An invitation.

poppy was quiet for a moment, surprised that moses actually seemed to believe that she was actually interested in the coffee. huh. maybe she was a better actress than she thought. maybe this was the start of a successful career in the movie industry. that’d be super cool. …if only it didn’t mean she’d have to move away from her friends. “do they have any of those valentine’s cookies out yet?” sure, it was barely eight in the morning, but it was never too early for a seasonal cookie. especially a heart shaped one.
“if they do, i’ll totally take one of the ones with the sparkly pink sprinkles they had last year.” she was a woman of refined tastes, and anyone with a bit of common sense knew that the pink sprinkled cookies were the best ones. at least in her opinion. “thanks, doll.” at any rate… at least the sweetness of the cookie would help to cover up the taste of the black coffee, if it happened to be as strong as she was expecting.
His mouth broke out into a grin. Sparkles, pink, and sprinkles, now that sounded more like Poppy. “As you wish,” he did a faux bow before he finished what used to be her drink and then pulled himself up. Moses went up to the counter, returning the cup for the convenience of the barista. He ordered another one of his drink, and the cookie for Poppy. Hesitating for a second, he turned back to look at Poppy, deciding to alter the order a little bit. Feeling a little bit more human, he actually waited for the order this time, returning only when he had everything he paid for. “A hot cup of coffee for you,” he placed the cup of black coffee in front of her, “and one for me,” he placed his cup by his seat. “Your cookie,” he continued as he set the cookie down. “And an iced coffee with three pumps of caramel to go.” He grinned as he sat back down on his seat. He figured it wouldn’t hurt to buy her her coffee exactly how she liked it.
darren-mills:
Darren had finished work early for the day, and retreated to his favourite spot on the boardwalk to read and get some much needed alone time. He found work draining, having to make small talk with the customers, and he always felt a need to recharge after the day and this was his favourite way to do it.
He was in the middle of a chapter of Don Quixote when he heard footsteps approaching. He didn’t even glance up to see who it was, instead keeping his head buried in his book and hoping that whoever it was would simply walk past. But, he just wasn’t that lucky today, and the footsteps stopped in front of him. With an audible sigh he looked up, keeping his finger in his book to save his page. “Did you need something?” he asked, irritated at having his relaxing moment interrupted.
@banksstart
She had a few hours before her shift at Port Side, golden hour was just about to hit. She was happily taking photos on her camera as she walked along the boardwalk, mostly of the scenic view. Looking through the screen of her camera, she searched for the perfect shot. Within the frame, a lone man sitting, getting deeply involved in his book. She debated whether she should ask if she could take his photo or just leave him alone. She may have hesitated too long as the man spoke. Taking the hint, Hope shook her head. “Oh, um--” she glanced from her camera, lowering it before she looked back to him. “No, um-- sorry. I’ll just go take photos elsewhere.”
darren-mills:
Darren was at Roast, keeping his head down while he sat patiently as he waited for his morning caffeine fix. He heard the guy sat behind him getting agitated by how long it was taking, and he glanced over his shoulder at him. “That cup over there looks half full, and the guy it belongs to is asleep. If you’re incapable of waiting for a few minutes, then that’s one option for you,” he said, pointing to a booth to their left. If there was one thing that annoyed him, it was people that made a point of complaining about having to wait for things, and Darren wasn’t the kind of person to stay quiet when something irritated him, even if that meant trouble.
His lips curled up into a smile, assuming the other was joking before clocking the irritation in his features. “Dude, chill. You actually thought I was serious?” the corners of his mouth tugged down into a frown as his eyebrows stitched. He actually considered just grabbing the sleeping person’s cup, thinking he could just leave money for stealing it. Just to spite the other. But he wasn’t that desperate yet. He didn’t need the trouble either. He was already having a rough morning as it was.
cardiinals:
“don’t they know you can surf when it’s cold out?” there was a big sign near one of the openings to the beach that said the water was closed due to weather. it wasn’t ideal, but getting in the water had been a priority since she got to the outerbanks. “it’s just a little bit of wind,” she turned to look at a bystander just near her. ( @banksstart )
“I’m sure you can-- but I think the point is you shouldn’t?” Her brows knitted together in question. It puzzled Hope how anyone would even want to be in the water in this weather. She was already layered up as it was, she couldn’t imagine how frigid the waters were. But then again, she’d seen people openly eat ice cream in this weather so maybe she just was built different from the locals. “I’m not an expert on the subject though so don’t take my opinion into account.”
poppyhq:
“anytime, mo.” poppy gave moses a small salute, happy that she’d managed to get her good deed for the day completed early. at his suggestion, she paused, thinking it over and wondering if trying out a new drink would be worth the risk. after all, she’d never strayed from her iced coffee with three shots of caramel before - it had always been just what she’d needed it to… why fix what ain’t broke? on the other hand, the adventure that trying a controversial coffee type presented was pretty damn tantalizing.
“no. i actually, um… i love black coffee.” would she be able to pull it off? convince moses that she was the kind of person that enjoyed a drink with a bad reputation? after all, she had a thing for bad boys, maybe it was the same with beverages? the only way to find out was to try it for herself. “order me the same as yours.”
His eyebrows raise at her admission that she enjoyed black coffee. He was more surprised than doubtful. Not many people enjoyed their coffee black. Moses, admittedly, didn’t assume anyone who’d enjoyed a caramel iced coffee (heavy on the caramel) would enjoy a simple cup of pure freshly roasted black coffee. But he didn’t wanna be that jerk that gatekept anyone’s coffee tastes. “Alright,” he nodded, resigning to her wishes as he took another gulp of her sweet drink. If the caffeine wasn’t going to work, maybe the sugar would help somehow. “Let me get you that drink. Do you want anything else with it? Like a scone or some other snack?” He asked as he stood up. He straightened the creases on his jacket. “Unless you’re waiting to have breakfast, then I’m happy to just get you that drink.”
wickedgcmes:
‘‘Excuse me, sir.’‘ He grabbed his own cup of coffee, making sure to move it under Moses’ nose, a teasing smile tugging at the corner of his lips as Kiaan took his first sip. One that ended up with a satisfied sigh, and a bright cheeky smile flashed at the other male: ‘‘you look like shit. What did you do with the eye cream I bought you last month?’‘
His featured wrinkled in a grimace that was betrayed rather quickly by his lips curling up to an amused smirk. “I wish I was physically capable of hating you, Kiaan,” he declared as the other teased him. “It’s nice to know I look just how I feel inside, though,” he managed to insert a little self-depreciating humor. “I don’t think there’s an eye-cream money can buy that can save me at this point.”
poppyhq:
though poppy had been looking forward to drinking her iced coffee ever since, well, the last time she’d had iced coffee, it seemed pretty clear that this guy could use the pick me up more than she did. “here. we can do tradesies.” sliding the cup in front of moses, she gave him a small shrug, before leaning back into her seat at the table beside him. “i didn’t drink any of it yet, so you’re not gonna get my germs or anything, i promise.”
♢
The way Moses looked at Poppy, you’d think she’d just pulled him out of oncoming traffic and saved his life. She might as well have, honestly. She was saving him from his misery-- or at the very least, easing it for a few moments. “Thanks, Pops,” he hesitated to take her drink for a second before deciding to accept her kindness. With a few gulps, he manages to deplete the drink half-way. And though it was far too sweet for his taste, a little caffeine was better than none. “I owe you one,” he breathed with a sigh of relief. “I can just buy you another one of these. I still fully intend to drink the one I ordered. Plus-- I don’t know if you’d enjoy just black coffee.”
abiggilmore:
mindlessly scrolling through instagram, abigail was waiting for her order when moses began complaining. sure, she was just as annoyed, but that was just because she had other things to do today and if she had known it’d take this long, she would’ve made an iced coffee at home. “if you take my cup, i swear to god…” not in the mood to wait any longer.
“Or what?” he challenged with eyebrows raised. “I’m sure whatever misery you have planned for me would be a swifter sentence than having to live through today.” There’s a smile on his lips-- clearly amused for some reason. He shook his head as he turned to her. “I don’t even have a cup to take yet.”
Moses groaned into his hands as he dragged them across his face in an attempt to keep himself awake. He didn’t realize how late into the night he’d ended up studying. And by the time he’d looked up from his notes, the sun was peeking at the horizon and he had to get ready to work. Not something new that happened to the paralegal. But his lightheadedness made him regret not keeping track of time better. Now he’s sat at Roast, patience drawing thin as he waits for his lifeline. “If that coffee takes another minute, I’ll have to grab someone else’s cup.”
