A new face in town, but a Pogue through and through. Hope Guevarra is an exchange student from the Philippines, here with a J1 visa. She’s a semester away from graduating with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. The J1 visa program is a way for her to get credits. Really, they were only required to do three months but Hope opted to do a whole year of the program.
She wants to make use of her time in Outer Banks, exploring as much as she can. She has a habit of disregarding her safety for the sake of a good picture, or a lasting memory. She’s rarely sitting at home when she’s not working. One of her goals is to take a photo of all five light houses on the island.
Just like a true Pogue, she juggles two jobs. One as a hotelier at the Ocean View Inn, another as a waitress at Port Side. Ocean View Inn is her visa sponsor and host of her exchange program. They’ve provided for her housing, one she shares with her fellow students and coworkers at the inn.
Hope has large blended family. Two step-siblings, three half-siblings, from her dad’s side alone. She’d always been the black sheep of the family since, among her siblings, she was the only one who didn’t share their mother. Though Hope never felt unloved by her dad, she never felt welcomed by everyone else in her family.
She has a tendency to live in her head. An idealist. But she’s just a lonely soul looking for a home. And in the meanwhile, she’s happy to distract herself with endless work hours, or beautiful sceneries.
