I just really really like bread clips* - I have so much anxiety so please be kind and patient ;w; - *All occlupanids are gently removed after replacing them with a paper bread tie - Tumblr sucks a bit so the Aesthetic might be off for a while… - Located in CT but you bet your butt that I’m looking for new species when I travel. Think I could get a new species or two when I visit my mom in SC?

I was having a bit of a crisis (I needed to do my T shot andI hate it, usually someone else does it) and I swept my hand over the counter and you never BELIEVE what I found

This is one of the ones with the strange texture so I’m glad that my fam left it for me. Honestly it helps with the anxiety a little for whatever reason?

Anybody have details on the strangely smooth occlupanids?

Pretty sure that's Rugoris imparidecussatus, it's just not red like HORG's specimen.

The way that I identify species is actually by comparing them to a blown-up version on my phone if I don’t already have them in my collection rather than by color alone, since so many of them come in sucj a wide array of colors, but I am defs going to check again. I am so much happier when my little guys already have names…

Someone commented on my binder, so I thought I’d give you guys a little tour :)

It’s kind of a long post so I’m putting it under a cut

It’s really just a thick, beat-up binder that my dad gave me when I was just a little baby occlupanologist smuggling toxodentidae out of grocery stores. But the inside is so much better looking:

BEHOLD: The very first page. I have something like this for every family of occlupanid that I currently own (There are five, plus a section for my unknowns). The backgrounds were designed and hand cut by me. I sometimes let my Unsorted Occlupanid Bag get a little full and I have to cut out hundreds at a time when I actually sort through them since each new page takes 9 squares and I often get new species or a species’ page overflows and I have to add a new one. This is what I’m dealing with now:

I kinda let it get out of hand… That’s going to be a lot of new backgrounds.

Anyway. The pages for each species are listed alphabetically by the genus for easy access, though I may end up switching it to alphabetically by species.

Other occlupanologists use the binder sleeves that coin collectors use, but I prefer these larger ones because my big guys (such as M. gregjubyi) are escape artists and the larger sleeves give them room to move around. They still manage to get out sometimes though:

Members within a species are then sorted by color:

I like to keep multiple members of a color based on their markings. They are sorted by most vivid markings to least vivid/non-marked. I also keep little guys with extras, like tails. They’re often at the back of the species page regardless of color:

I have a total of 27 SORTED species. However, I DID once go through my Unsorted Bag and I will be adding at LEAST six new ones when I actually sort through them and officially update the binder. Thanks to one reblog on a VERY old blog that I haven’t touched in ages, I think I will be doing that soon. Hopefully I will be updating you all on my new findings in the next coming days or weeks 😁

I don’t think I have Alisarcina thinicola in that color in my collection but I have a lot of sorting to do. Here are my sorted thinicolas:

Of course there’s always a chance that I didn’t sort them right. There so many species of toxodentidae that are very similar and I often get confused

Does anyone know what this is? I found it years ago and haven’t seen it since. I was looking for it on HORG.com a few weeks ago and didn’t see it but maybe I’m blind or the site is slow to update? If it’s new or important, should I like… Send it in??? How does one even do that???

Not gonna lie, I never thought I’d see a P. stellanova in my life. My little brother worked at Wendy’s for a while and said they were so common that people would step on them without a second thought, so he thought they were worthless before my girlfriend (Also an avid occlupinologst!) and I flipped out when he brought one home. One of the last things he did before he quit was grab a handful of these babies for me to put in my book and it’s definitely my favorite two pages 🖤

I’m finally getting around to sorting out a big bag of occlupanids that I’ve collected since the beginning of the coronavirus. Turns out I have a bunch that were identified since then! This isn’t even all of them. I still have a few that I need to check the website for…

Ummm. What does one do when they have additional information about a species? I can confirm where a bunch of them came from but idk what to do with that knowledge

These guys have so many more uses than you’d think. Today I’m using a few P. Glyphodorsalis as stitch markers for a new crochet project since I can’t find my other ones
