Last night the enforcers of the 1% attacked and destroyed the occupations in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. They ignored both the constitution and our rights as free people. The 1% control our economy, our governments, and the police force. They have now arrested and detained over 5,000 people in less than 3 months. This is because we are winning. We will no longer allow our futures to be controlled by the elites who seek to supress and exploit us. In the next week, you will have the opportunity to show that you stand with the 99%, and you are willing to take direct action. The time is now. It is up to you. We will not be silenced.

Yesterday we did a historic thing. We generated 87,834 phone calls to U.S. Representatives in a concerted effort to protect the Internet. Extraordinary. There's no doubt that we've been heard.

So just to keep you updated: The well-intentioned, but immensely flawed "Stop Online Piracy Act" is still in the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing was yesterday and now members will debate and bring amendments to the bill. The Committee will reconvene in a few weeks — the date has yet to be scheduled. Nothing has been brought to a final vote. Everything is still very much in play. We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on and what you can do to help. But for now, we want to thank you.

One encouraging thing we heard yesterday:

I don’t believe this bill has any chance on the House floor. I think it’s way too extreme, it infringes on too many areas that our leadership will know is simply too dangerous to do in its current form.

Clashes between cops and protesters resulted in dozens of arrests. In one case, police busted one of their own. Retired Philadelphia police Captain Ray Lewis was holding up a sign that read, "NYPD Don't Be Wall Street Mercenaries," when he was arrested this morning and hauled off to jail. Protesters cheered and jeered as Lewis went quietly.

some NEWS from Occupy LA : The Central City Association (CCA), is an LA lobbying group. They are currently working on making encampments on public and private lands illegal. Theirs is a blatant move against Occupy LA, and the homeless of our city as well. Let your voice be heard with other Occupy LA members by joining us tonight at the CCA Soiree. Meet at City Hall 4:30-5pm. We'll stroll down to Salvage (717 W 7th St ) together. ~pj

Who still thinks LOBBIES are for OUR best interests? Did anyone watch the The Daily Show on Monday night? Wyatt Cenac did a hilarious (but disheartening) segment on a bill called H.R. 3472, a proposed bill that would have given discounts on insurance premiums to people who practiced healthier lifestyle choices such as exercising. Who killed the bill? Lobbyists for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and other "health" organizations. Their conclusion: "Don't mess with big cancer!"
