Life’s Better When We Wake Up Together || Siley
Dropping the single red rose into the slim vase, Sam stepped back to survey his handywork. The tray was well stocked with every kind of breakfast food any human could ever want, he’d give it that. Now to actually move the thing.
Sam lifted the tray, careful not to drop it and carried it across the small apartment to the room he shared with Riley. Expertly balancing it, he pulled the door open and backed in.
Closing the door carefully behind him, he turned to find Riley... still asleep.
With a sigh, he crossed the room and carefully balanced the tray on the bedside table as he seated himself. He pulled open the beside drawer and extracted a feather. After assuring the tray was well balanced in case of catastrophy, he began to move to feather gently across her arm.
“Riles,” he whispered. “It’s 11:53. If you don’t wake up now, my breakfast in bed will become lunch in bed. And I didn’t pick the right foods.”
He moved the feather to her face then, gently stroking her cheek with it before, setting it down, he exchanged it for his fingers. He stroked her cheeks lightly with the back of his hand, moving eventually to smooth her hair.
She was beautiful as she slept. She was beautiful always. And, yet again, he couldn’t believe she actually loved him too. They had been together for years and Sam still couldn’t believe he’d been so lucky.
Sometimes fate dealt you a lousy hand right off the bat. But then, later, it gave you exactly what you needed. And when the world gave him Riley, she was it. Exactly what he needed. She always had been.
And he knew she always would be.
