Information from nincatalog — "I see a lot and have been getting a lot of questions around the Nine Inch Noize cassette tape that's been making its round to some fans, so I am going to do my best to answer the more general questions being asked:
1. Is this official? - No, this is NOT an official release by Nine Inch Nails
2. How did I get this or how did you get this? - Random fans (or maybe not random) got an email about a week or so ago with some information and asking for a mailing address. Against standard internet security protocol, we all seemed to have thrown that to the wind and provided our mailing address.
3. How did you get selected? - No idea why I got personally selected. Guessing its because we run NINcatalog but that's just a guess.
4. What's on the tape? - The track list is listed in the image posted, but from those that have heard it, its an IEM (In Ear Monitor) recording of the songs on the cassette.
5. You haven't heard it yet? - No, I need to connect my cassette deck and haven't gotten around to it. LOL.
6. Can I buy this? - No, see question # 2
7. Is this going to be made available to the public? - Maybe? I don't have the means to do it but maybe some other folks who got it are working on that.
Hope that answers most of the questions around this. If we get any more information on it, we will pass it on.
This is obviously very fun, mysterious and reminds us of the ARG days but not through an official avenue. Let's enjoy this and see where it goes, if anywhere, beyond this cassette tape."

The gist of the story is out there already: an unknown number of fans received cryptic emails from an anonymous email with the offer of a Nine Inch Noize Mixtape if you replied with your address. I threw caution aside and replied. This arrived a few days ago. It contains mostly IEM sourced recordings (In-ear monitor mixes are what the band and crew hear during shows), and is a complete compilation of the B-Stage remixes from the Peel It Back Tours.
UPDATE: UMG has issued takedown notices to any sites hosting this material, so it’s no longer on YouTube or hosted on any fan sites. Proceed with caution.

ok so apparently the riaa told ninlivearchive to take down the nine inch noize audios that a fan spread around on cassette... well guess who downloaded them and is going to post them

Not just because he's won two Oscars for film scores (with Atticus Ross) to add to his multiple Oscar nominations, Golden Globe wins, and Grammys-- but because his talent (along with my pal Jon Brion and a few others) is so superior to so many of the usual suspects who compose music for movies.
In 2005, I spent close to a year interviewing Trent for an article I never got to write - for reasons I may explain sometime in the future. Suffice to say it wasn't Trent's fault or mine- I have over 20 hours of interviews in which he talked about his childhood, musical training, struggles with drugs and depression, and his work as the leader of the ever-brilliant Nine Inch Nails. I also saw a bunch of thrilling NIN shows that David Bowie, Chris Rock and I all agreed were the best concerts of that year (possibly any year).
For the next two weekends at Coachella, Nine Inch Nails will perform with Boys Noize as Nine Inch Noize; those shows are bound to be special.
Trent Reznor is a great musician, an internet innovator, a dazzling performer, and an ongoing example of how to survive and conquer."
