Cordy Davenport

Early Life

Born Cordelia Victoria Davenport to Charlotte and Philip Davenport in Greenwich, CT, she was not the "heir" her parents had expected, both hoping for a boy. That didn't stop her from following her father and everything he did, asking to go with him to the office occasionally. After her brother, Philip "Lip" was born, she became attached to him and even adopted his nickname for her, Cordy. She only allows those closest to call her that; to everyone else she is Cordelia. Cordy and Lip were thick as thieves growing up and she was extremely protective of him, even ending friendships over him. Despite being a little jealous of how their father treated Lip as opposed to her, it only made Cordy work even harder to be recognized.

Teen Years

As a teenager, Cordy was very popular among her peers. She attended an all-girl's high school, but occasionally mingled with the boys at Lip's school. However, she was careful of what boys she gave attention too. She didn't look at dating as a playing field, but as a lab to find her future in. Cordy made sure to stay focused on her goals. Always feeling the need to prove herself to her father that she can and should be his successor. She was the top in all classes including her AP classes.  Lip was the only person who would remind her to relax and let loose and not take everything so serious all the time. With her brother's help and encouragement, she threw some of the biggest parties. At one such party, she caught Lip in the butler's pantry with one of her friends and immediately cut off said friend and lectured Lip that he needs to be more careful with the company he keeps. She gave the valedictorian speech at her high school graduation.

Life at University

As several Davenports had before her, Cordy attended Yale University, receiving a full ride - not that her family needed it. She enjoyed living in New Haven, even deciding to stay if she couldn't prove to her father that she deserved a position at Davenport & Sons. Cordy worked ever so hard to earn his respect. Phil's tune began to change when she earned a bachelor's degree in business, but he still didn't offer her a job in the company. So, Cordy remained in New Haven to pursue her master's.

Finding Love

While pursuing her master's, she went on plenty of dates. Some might describe Cordy's dating life as methodical, similar to how she studied for her classes. It was a turn off for most, but a few seemed to admire her drive. Having brought home plenty of men that her mother approved of, but none of them were the right fit. One day while on her way to work, she came across self-proclaimed clown, Roger Bolton. He was making balloon animals. When he saw Cordy, he got down on one knee and presented a balloon flower to her. She laughed and took it, apologizing for having to rush off. She began seeing him around campus and the two began spending more time together. He was nothing like the men she had previously dated, but he was refreshing. Falling in love with him after seeing how easily he took her parents' initial interrogation after meeting them for the first time. She knew he would never be bothered by the pressures of her family.

Being the strong independent woman she was, Cordy wanted to be the one to propose. She learned how to make a diamond ring with balloons, knowing it would surprise Roger. Coincidentally, when she surprised Roger, he also surprised her with a real ring. They eloped with Lip as their witness, much to her mother's chagrin.

Business and Family

Finally getting the respect she so craved throughout her life from her father, she earned her spot in Davenport & Sons. Wanting to wait to start a family until she had worked her way to a higher position in the company, she was grateful for how understanding Roger was. However, an unplanned pregnancy threw a wrench into her plans. Her father suggested, she leave the company and focus on being a mother, but she wanted to prove to him that she could do both. Finding a balance between business and family, Cordy made sure she didn’t miss a single milestone after Amelia was born. Proving her father wrong, she made vice-president of the company by the time her daughter was three years old.

She lives in Manhattan with her clown husband and their daughter, and they are planning to expand the family.

Random Facts About Cordy:

She knows how to make balloon animals but only pulls out the skill for Amelia.

She has a clown name that no one but Roger knows. Not even Lip knows.

Her favorite movie is Heathers. The musical version is the only musical she enjoys.

Davenport Family History

Origins

Davenport derrives from the Norman French “Dauen-port” meaning “the town on the trickling stream”, referring to Ormus de Dauenport’s home on the River Dane, which is allegedly named after the Davenport family. There are several different spellings of the Davenport name including: Dauenport, Davenporte, Donarty, Deneport, and Daneport. The family can be traced back to the migration to England set off by the Normal Conquest. The earliest recorded ancestor of the Davenports is Romus de Dauenport who was reportedly born in 1086 at Congleton - close to what is Marton, England today. In 1160, the family became responsible for keeping the Macclesfield Forest. Over time, the family acquired land throughout Wheltrough, Henbury, Woodford, and Bramall.

The District of Davenport

The district of Davenport in Stockport, England, was named after the family after the building of Davenport Railway Station in 1858. It was build as a result of a complaint from Colonel William Davenport that the company had not honored it’s initial promise to provide a station at Bramhall Lane. The district expanded in the 1850s. The 20th century saw an increase in construction of residential homes and comercial developments. However, World War II lead to the demolition of larger, older properties.

Bramall Hall and Later Years

The Davenport held Bramall Hall for 500 years after acquiring it through marriage. The family built the Tudor manor house that still stands today. John de Davenport I was the first lord of Bramall Hall, acquiring it in 1370. William Davenport I fought in the final battle of the Wars of Roses at Botsworth, and was instrumental in helping put King Henry VII on the throne. William Davenport III was knighted in Scotland by King Henry VIII for his involvement in the burning of Edinburgh in May 1544. On April 22, 1603, William Davenport V was knighted by King James I & VI in Newark and would later became the High Sheriff of Cheshire and a commissioner of the Hundred of Macclesfield. His marriage to Dorothy Wilbraham in 1599 was the first marriage recorded at Bramall’s Chapel. The bride and groom were just 11 and 15, respectively. William Davenport VI was a Royalist during the English Civil War and Bramall Hall was used by both Royalist and Parliamentarian soldiers. William Davenport X was the final natural Davenport to reside as lord of Bramall Hall. He did not have any sons, so the estate passes to his adopted daughter, Maria and her husband, Salsbury Pryce Humphreys in 1829. Humpreys was a Naval Captain and later Rear Admiral. He was knighted in 1834 and changes his name to Davenport in 1838 to continue the Davenport line. The Davenport family moved from Bramall Hall to Cheltenham in 1841 for the first time in 471 years. On January 24, 1877, John William Handley Davenport announced that the estate would be sold. He and his wife moved to Clipsham Hall in Rutland, England which remained in the Davenport family until it was sold in 2014.

In America

Lancelot Davenport was the first of the family to arrive in the United States in 1620. Thomas Davenport (1615-1685) is the common ancestor of three US Presidents: William H. Taft, George HW Bush, and George W. Bush. In 1630, John Davenport (1597-1669), a Puritan clergyman from Coventry, Warwickshire, England co-founded the American colony, New Haven. Yale University would go on to name one of the residential colleges, Davenport Hall, after him. In the 20th century, Philip and Charlotte Davenport married and had two children, Cordy and Lip. Philip owns a financial company, Davenport & Sons and is looking to pass the company on to Cordy who now has a family of her own.

Clint Hansen

Early Life

Clint was born to Donald and Anna Hansen, who named him Clinton David Hansen after actor Clint Eastwood - Donald's favorite actor. He was raised in a very conservative Christian household. Clint always found himself with more liberal beliefs than those he was raised with causing a rift in his relationship with his Donald. When he was only fifteen, his parents threw him out after finding him kissing another boy under the bleachers at school.

Fortunately for Clint, he was taken in by Abigail and Desmond Matthews, the parents of his best friend, June. Getting much closer to June, he asked her to marry him after graduation. The couple quickly married and continued living with her parents' while he attended New York University and June attended the NYPD Police Academy but eventually moved into their own home.

Photography and Divorce

Clint began taking photos to help pay for college. What used to be a hobby became Hansen Photography. After meeting fellow photographer, Charles Winston, he found his group of art friends, often leaving June home alone while he attended parties. As he was becoming a popular photographer in his inner circle and business was booming, his marriage deteriorated. Clint and June had an amicable divorce after only being married for three years. They remain close friends. Clint went on to earn a degree in Photography and Imaging from NYU.

Love Again

At an art show, displaying his work, Clint met Jim Dumont, who became one of Clint's most generous clients and who assisted Clint in opening his own studio finally. After dating Jim for less than a year, they married in a large ceremony covered by Vanity Fair. After a few blissful years of marriage, the two adopted a little girl named Jane.

Clint lives in a penthouse in Manhattan overlooking Time Square with his husband and their daughter. Hansen Photography is still popular and often booked months in advance.

Random Facts About Clint:

He is the godfather of June's daughter with her second husband, Henry.

He proudly calls himself a "flaming bisexual".

He prefers punk and grunge rock. His favorite bands include Green Day, Billy Idol, Nirvana, and Sex Pistols. He also is a big fan of David Bowie.

He did write a fashion column for a magazine under a pseudonym (David Clinton) but refuses to ever tell anyone which magazine. he hasn't even told Jim.

Happy birthday, Jerry. Thanks for giving me inspiration for this character I love because I panicked when I found you hot.

Is your character's appearance more telling or deceiving?

Lip's appearance can be a little deceiving at times. Yes, he's clean cut from an old money family. Despite his carefully tailored clothing and lack of jeans in his closet, he prefers "normal" people than the elitist rich kids he was forced to grow up to. He often, as his mother Charlotte calls it, "slums it up with the working class".

Is your character willing to ask for things?

Not really. Unless he was desperate enough to need something. His parents raised him to make sure he never owes anyone anything. He sees everything as a transaction and is the last person to expect favors. If you get Lip a gift but he doesn't have anything for you he will stew in his guilt for days - maybe even weeks - until he gets you something in return.

Is there a food texture your character doesn't like?

Lip is not a fan of pears. He doesn't mind the taste and sometimes enjoys a pear flavoring in his sparkling water. But as far as eating a physical pear, he hates it. Something about the texture of the fruit makes his skin crawl.

What celestial body would interest your character most?

Like things in space? He loved science and did get to attend rich kids Space Camp one year. He is a big fan of the Rigel system. Blue stars are cool.

Who would your character want most to sign their cast if they got one?

He'd allow any number of his artist friends to paint it first. And the first to sign it would be his sister Cordy because she's his best friend. But she would definitely write something stupid on it.

Would your character feel confident in a fight?

Lip usually avoids any chance of a fight but if it came to it he could hold his own. His parents put him and Cordy into so many self defense classes growing up. He'd protect that pretty face of his at all costs.

What's an activity that reminds your character of something else?

He lives in a Latino neighborhood in New York. And when the weather gets hot all the older men bring out their domino tables to play dominoes and cards. It reminds him of Rosa, the one that got away. Or at least he believed that. She was another casualty of Charlotte meddling in his live life and paying off people to stay out of his life. Rosa taught him to play dominoes and got him a souvenir set from Puerto Rico adorned with the flag on the back that he still has but he hasn't played since she left.

Lip Davenport

Early Life

Lip was born to Charlotte and Philip Davenport who named him Philip Fredric Davenport III, after both of their fathers. Charlotte often claimed that their family goes back to the Mayflower, though there is no evidence that they can trace back to anyone on the ship. Though both of his parents families come from old money. The nickname of Lip was bestowed on him by his older sister, Cordelia - who he lovingly calls Cordy. He hates when people call him Phil or Philip and prefers going by Lip outside of professional settings. His father was often absent in his life, missing milestones and a few birthdays "because of work". Growing up in Greenwich, CT in a wealthy family, he learned horseback riding after being gifted a horse he named Jerry from his grandfather.

Teen Years

Lip attended an all-boys private high school. Known for being the life of the party, he always managed to throw the party of the year with Cordy, whenever their parents were away. He quickly realized he was bisexual as a teenager, taking a liking to a few of his classmates. Coming out to his sister first before his parents, out of fear that they wouldn't be supportive of him, however, his parents took it better than either of their children expected. His family being part of various country and social clubs, he found himself popular among his mother's friends. While vacationing with his family in the Hamptons at 16, he lost his virginity to one of Charlotte's friends.

Life at University

After graduating high school, he attended Yale University as a fourth generation legacy student. Studying business law and psychology as a double major, he was on the path to take a job at his father's company, Davenport & Sons. He joined a fraternity on campus and was known for hosting the biggest raggers, continuing his legacy from high school. He got a job as a tutor during his semesters and did internships over the summer. Despite being known for his colorful social life and packed schedule, he managed to graduate with a 4.0 GPA, and was the first pick as his graduating class's Valedictorian. However, he turned it down stating, "People hear enough from legacy graduates who were born with a silver spoon. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said,".

Moving to New York

After graduation, he received several job offers on top of the guaranteed position at his Davenport & Sons. He moved to Brooklyn, New York with the money he earned while working in college, not wanting to rely on his family name or wealth. He wanted to make a name for himself. Which meant turning down the position at Davenport & Sons, and taking a financial analyst position for Dream World Financial. He eventually left his studio apartment in Brooklyn for a lush, beautifully furnished apartment in Manhattan where he currently resides.

Romantic and Social Life

Lip's romantic and sexual flings are just that: flings. He's never had a relationship last longer than six months. Charlotte has a tendency to get a little too involved in his dating life, often chasing people away she deems "beneath him". Known for his charm and as a flirt, he doesn't find it hard to go home with someone. Always known as the life of the party, he has a solid group of friends he's collected through the years from high school, to college, to the professional world. However, he considers Cordy to be his best friend. He prefers people get to know Lip, not Philip Davenport III.

Random Facts About Lip:

He only ever drinks Dunk's coffee - his coffee order is black with two sugars,

His style is always polished. He rarely if ever wears jeans. His fits are well thought out and he does have a tailor. You will never catch him dead in a thrift store.

He considers his ass his best asset. He's worked hard on it.
