Day 3 of OCtober: Grocery store (postapo style!)

There's this one farm down south, run entirely by robots, lush in plants and opportunities... but the robots don't let anyone near the place. The residents of a nearby village have long ago died, and no one else has permission to try their food. That's the one time that Ruth convinced Amber to steal something!

How is pre-war Claudia different from post-war Claudia? What has she gained, by 2290?

I can only answer for where she currently is in the fic. It’s nowhere near done, and I don’t want to spoil it lol.

As of right now she’s been out of the vault for about two and a half months. Physically she has several new scars, and is already more muscular than she was. Although she is currently in the middle of winter, she’s getting more sun than usual so she’s slowly getting more and more freckles.

The biggest changes are of course mental and emotional. She is a lot more stoic than she used to be. She deals with things like sadness by burying them. She doesn’t let herself cry usually, she’s terrified of being caught off guard. She wasn’t great at dealing with things like sadness and fear before the war, and she has only gotten worse. She has, however, gotten better at dealing with anger. It’s a surprisingly good source of energy. But overall she hasn’t changed much. It’s only been a few months.

By then end of the fic she’ll have changed a lot more.

I’ve spoken many times how Charon’s pick of nickname for Farren, “Bambi”, came from her comfort book Bambi, a Life in the Woods - which she reads many times during the events of FO3.

So here’s some somewhat angsty, poetic, tender ramblings about it, as usual.

The first time Charon refers to her as Bambi is unintentional. It slips. He doesn’t know what happened to her inside Raven Rock - he just knows it’s exploding and burning to ashes, that she is responsible for it, and that despite all the strength and might in her stance when they find her just crawling out of the place, Farren still crumbles the moment she sees him.

The story of Bambi isn’t that different from hers. That’s the allegory she makes. It’s reading and perceiving your life through gentler means, one more of this softer ways Farren finds to see her own life through kinder lenses, otherwise she might crumble. But she does crumble. She falls apart, completely, and she fears it’s beyond repair.
