It was one of those things she did because her fathers asked her to. Otherwise, she would be at home, in her pajamas, glaring at a streaming service like it had insulted her brother. At least it was for a good cause, for all it was worth. Tobi was leaned against the closest wall, cradling a cup of punch like it was more precious than it was worth.

Realistically, it was just a sort of barrier between her and the boring people that had tried to talk to her tonight. Whenever her fathers wandered off, she was alone, and with the streaks of pink in her hair, she was unfortunately one of the most interesting looking things in the room.

"Listen, buddy, this is my inconspicuous hiding spot. If you attract attention by being tall, dark, and handsome, I'm gonna be very upset." Tobi indicated her cane, which hung off her wrist by its strap. "I'm armed and dangerous, y'know." She grinned slightly.

Crash landing had not been in his proverbial cards today. But, her ehe was... sans a working ship, yellow blood seeping from the multiple cuts he'd gained from scrambling out of the wreck. At least, maybe, no one was around to see it, right? Surely he could get lucky enough for that, right? No, of course not.

" Just a hallucination, that's all I am. " Nothing in the protocols against lying. And she'd said it first, he was going to run with it, " So, no reason to tell anyone else you saw this. "

She wasn't sure if it was her body being difficult or the situation, but her head spun. Tobi reached with one hand to rub her temple, her eyebrows pinching together as she leaned into her cane. She peered at him, assessing the situation for a moment.

"I don't think hallucinations acknowledge that they're not real," Tobi said with a nervous grin. She shifted her weight a little, her frown returning.

"Do you have a name...weird, bleeding...alien...man?" Her voice squeaked. "And do you need, uh, medical assistance?"

" You sure about that? 'Cause, no offence, but I'm about two seconds from setting you up a ride in the Wee-Woo Wagon, bud. " Phone was already in her hand, 911 already dialed, and her thumb was hovering over the call button. " That knock you took was no joke. "

But, she wouldn't call unless he asked her to. Page hated hospitals... and she wasn't about to damn someone to that fate against their will, if she could avoid it. " No, no! I'm good. I'm totally fine. ----- I, uh, I definitely appreciate you dealing with that guy, he was a creep, but... gonna be honest, I've dealt with enough ghosts today, I don't need you going and making another one for me to deal with. I think you already got the point across to him. "

He couldn't help but laugh at her comment, giving her a dismissive wave of his hand. Corvus had seen worse and lived, especially without help.

"Nah, nah, I promise, I've got a thick skull and dense bones." Corvus shot her a toothy grin. It was true, it was why he'd learned to headbutt people when in a dicey situation. Whether or not he'd gotten a concussion from those various situations was yet to be confirmed.

"Alright, alright, I won't go all Kill Bill or whatever." He shrugged, pursing his lips in disgust at the mention of the unconscious man.

"Wait--what do you mean, ghosts?"

Tiktok granted me permission to use javascript, so I was able to do some tweaking/update Tobi and Corvus' dossiers.

Same story, just did some housecleaning, and more clearly indicated that Corvus effectively murders people for a living when he's not doing firefighter work.

Oh, she hated this. There was something about the days where she felt well enough to dress up and actually put an effort into wrangling her pink-streaked hair that drew out the weirdos.

It started innocently enough with a compliment about her hair and a question about her cane. These she could handle. What she couldn't handle was this guy actively getting into her space and desperately trying to get her number.

Maybe she should crack his shin with her cane, particularly the spikey part. A rational part of her reminded her that was considered assault, and Corvus wouldn't be around to bail her out. Shit.

Shit, shit, shit. He was too close. She could smell his cheap cologne and whatever dogshit energy drink he'd made his personality on his breath. Too close. Maybe just one solid whack--

Suddenly, there was another person. He was talking to her like he was an old friend. Tobi picked up the hint immediately.

"There you are! I've been waiting for you, you know, my brother is going to be so upset that we're late, come on---"

Tobi immediately shifted out of the stranger's space and moved to start walking with the lanky man, refusing to look back over her shoulder. When she glanced up, she saw a sizeable design on his neck. Was that...branding?

Tobi stared, wide-eyed and impressed, convinced it was a new form of body modification she hadn't run into yet.

"Thank you," she said softly, finally daring a glance over her shoulder. "He's been at it for like ten minutes and I was about to catch an assault charge. Don't know if my cane counts as a deadly weapon."

"How do you function like that? Waking up at the ass-crack of dawn? Do you actually sleep?" She teased gently, reaching to nudge his shoulder.

Her expression softened, though, as she looked around. "Thank you," she said quietly. "For keeping me safe."

Hearing those words from Mahia made him feel like he could die a happy man. She had suffered so much; her life had rendered her scared and acting like she didn't deserve the love he had to give.

Knowing that he had gotten through to her, that he could make her happy and secure was enough for him. Corvus flushed pink, shifting to hold Mahia closer to him. He kissed the top of her head, closing his eyes contentedly.

"And you'll always have a place here in my arms, I promise. Until the day I die, which won't be for a long, long time." He could promise the first. The second was tentative. It was why he never promised to not break her heart; he knew his death would do just that.

Everything had gone so wrong so fast it ws enough to make Tobi's head spin. The weather report had warned about rain and winds, but she had brushed it off. Surely, it wasn't bad enough to stop her from running to the store.

Wrong.

Wind and rain had quickly turned to flooding, and flooding had turned to jammed up roads and people who were panicking while driving.

The only good thing that had come from this was that the crash had happened close to her home (and that despite it all, both could still walk...mostly.)

Tobi leaned hard on her cane, gasping as another hard gust of wind threatened to knock her over. She shoved her shaking hand towards the door, fumbling with her keys and letting them both in before slamming it behind her. She knocked the door like the storm was going to try and get in.

"I'll get you some clean clothes..." She gestured at the both of them, soaked to the bone and bloody. The lights flickered in response, as if testing her. Tobi flinched.

She emerged, changed into clean, dry clothes, holding a pile for Cora and a first aid kit.

"If they're too small, I can grab some of my brother's clothes. They'll be baggy but at least long enough." She slumped into a chair, wincing at the effort.

"Let me see that cut, it's pretty deep and that floodwater can't be clean."

Tobi had already called 911, but the likelihood of them getting to her home in any reasonable time was slim.

Tobi lowered her gaze, absently chewing on the inside of her cheek as she considered his words. She'd lost a lot of things in her life, everything from people to beloved personal items while going through the constant revolving door that was foster care. During it all, she had managed to cling to Corvus' presence with a vice grip.

Not having him around lately was proving to be harder to cope with than anticipated.

"Everything that stays turns into something lost," she murmured, picking at her nail polish. "But this isn't about me and my abandonment issues." She tried to make her tone light and playful, but it fell flat.

She would have run if she could, but even walking today was a chore. Tobi stared at him with wide, emerald eyes that couldn't even dare to blink. Was she hallucinating?! There was no way that any of that had happened.

"I don't think you can, dude. Whatever that was--can't be real." A pause as she took a sharp breath, narrowing her gaze slightly. "I can't believe of all the hallucinations my brain has chosen, it's fucking aliens. Absurd."

Corvus winced, reaching to wipe at some blood running from his temple. The truth was upsetting and a lie would be insulting. He chose a happy medium, shooting Cassie a toothy grin.

"They get a little more fiesty in the summertime, if that's what you mean." The whole, 'showing up looking like he'd been hit by a car,' bit happened more often than he was willing to admit, but he didn't want to lay that on her.
