seriously, i hope it's never explained why he became the greatest swordsman or why he was given title of warlord. the implication that he doesn't even call himself a pirate nor does he have a crew, he just set sail one day hoping to find a worthy opponent and started up so much shit the navy was like 'what the goddamn hell is this guy's problem. get him on our payroll so we can have some sliver of control' is more priceless than any sad/badass backstory that could be written for him
