So real question from someone who wants to be a good ally: if someone is trans and you knew them before they changed their pronouns, do you use the current pronouns to refer to their old self? Like, if Lindsey transitions from female to male (it is a gender neutral name, after all), and you have a fun story from when they were female, do you use she because that’s what they were at the time, or do you use he because that’s what they are now?

I can see it both ways because on one hand, you don’t want to erase their past self but on the other, they were probably always male on the inside.

Or is this one of those things that will vary from person to person?
