We’re only human. We all make mistakes. We all fall short of perfection. We sometimes fail. We mess up, we fess up, we learn, we try our best- but even still, we’re only human, and we all struggle. So of course with this; there is always room for improvement. ‘ The thing is, we should all understand this similarity within one another. The more we can recognize these moments of mistakes in our friends, family, partners, the more we are able to connect to each other. I’ll admit, when my brother makes a mistake- it’s easy for me to fall into a thought of; “oh wow, of course he’d do that”, “why didn’t he use his brain”, “idiot!”. These thoughts are mistakes I have made, and I am guilty. I am not proud of these thoughts, and I am working towards changing my thought process in this. Currently and especially with so many faults in our world; the spread of sickness, cultural disagreements, and economic crises, I hear people pointing out everyone else’s faults, bashing others for mistakes, and errors. ‘ The beautiful thing though, is this is something that actually CONNECTS ALL OF US. It is in our mistakes and errors, that relates us as humans. After all- we are only human. We all fall short, and we’ve all “missed the mark”. So in that, we can choose to support each other. Help each other, and better understand our neighbour. As you make mistakes, so do I. My intention is no longer to point out these mistakes as an example of differences, but rather an opportunity to connect further, and attain betterment in our universal consciousness. Our world is in a continuous state of circulation and flow. Whether it’s our water cycles, breathing cycles, or the changing of our seasons, everything is in constant motion. Where does the time go?.. As 2019 is coming to a resolve, who else has been looking back and reflecting on this year? • • These past weeks I’ve had (what feels like) a lot going on- with my primary focus being on future travels, future business endeavours, and future personal creative projects... future future future! Which has been great for manifesting, and goal setting!...but woah, I’ve been so caught up in “tomorrow”, I forgot to stop and take a moment to reflect on where I am now. Where I am now is the resolve of everything I have accomplished and the personal goals I’ve achieved, as well as the hardships I’ve been through, the fails I’ve made, and the lessons I’ve learned.. so I remind myself to HONOUR all that I have experienced. All that I have tried, all that I’ve worked towards, and all that I am. All that I am continues to grow, and I’m incredibly excited to experience more of this crazy human life in 2020 (blood, sweat, tears, and all) • • Yes, take time to plan and goal set for 2020 - Also please honour what you’ve been through, the lessons, spontaneity, and your continuous growth. How often do we reflect internally? Really though, ask yourself.. On the contrary, how often do we reflect on our external world? • Focusing on what is outside of myself sometimes acts as an escape from myself. When I feel stressed or worried I find it easier (and almost instinctual) to typically go on a gaming app or social media and scroll (on our never ending “sensory overload” home/search page). It’s a distraction that puts a temporary bandaid on those stresses, boredom, anxieties, angers or even just discomfort during my day, and prevents me from carrying on the self inquiry that is necessary to deal with and move past them. Maybe you can relate, maybe not- but I noticed how often I was searching for that distraction to block out and cover up my internal mess. I put a time limit on my social media and gaming apps, (for what was originally 2hrs a days, now less than 1) so my phone would kick me out if I went over. I noticed right away I started to feel anxious because I was left to sit with myself and only myself. I wasn’t able to have the distraction of thinking about what Susie was doing or what Jacob was saying or what they were doing together to make their day fun, -I was just left to sit in MY world, MY shit, and let it stir a little bit internally. Of course my brain tried everything it could to take me out of sitting with myself- having internal thoughts of “well you should check your emails,” “maybe eat something,” and “give someone a call and see how they’re doing.” Any reason I could find to avoid dealing with my own issues. Then I had a thought.. “I deserve this time with myself”. All day we give our time to others, work, pets.. but how often do you ask yourself questions and gift yourself time to reflect on them. • When I was a kid, I didn’t have the social media platforms that we have today. Heck, I didn’t even have a cell phone. Instead I had the day before me to think about my world, my life, goals, dreams, and aspirations. Then at some point, I became distracted. People of integrity expect to be believed, and when they’re not; they let time prove them right. . . Know yourself, know your truth. People may come and go, -you remain the lead character in your story. In your heart your true intentions, behind your eyes your ambitions and dreams. Know these things. Study yourself, before truth comes as a surprise. Question yourself. Be open to inquiry, and notice where you can grow. Inspire to be in integrity with yourself. Never stop seeking love, even if others don’t yet see your truth. ✨ In the end, truth will be known. - - Was there a time in your life when you felt unheard? Or felt as if nobody believed you when you told your truth? For myself it’s difficult to be “okay with it” when I feel misunderstood. Often I feel an urge to continue explaining, or try to better communicate my point of view. While this shows I care about the conversation and people involved, sometimes I must accept that not always will my side be understood, agreed with, “right”, or even heard from another person’s perspective. Of course this isn’t anyone’s fault- but my own if I’m allowing this to make me feel “less than”, ignored, or unimportant. 🌱I am learning to be more confident in my truth, my reasoning, and my responses, so even when others may doubt me, I know my truth. Yoga has become an investment I choose everyday. I put time and effort in to my practice, and the ROI (return on investment) is beyond anything I could imagine.. Yoga challenges me. It puts me in a place of discomfort, difficulty, and sometimes even frustration. While in a pose that gives me this kind of reaction, I’m given an opportunity to learn about myself. Who am I here?... It’s not about how long I can wait, or stay in the pose, or even the pose itself that I’m accomplishing.. It’s about WHO you become while you’re waiting. What kinds of thoughts start to fill my head while in difficulty or challenge- noticing when my thoughts aren’t serving me, or if they’re negative, or “below the line” - yes noticing, and then changing that reaction into a positive response, or an “above the line” affirmation or thought. Essentially, learning to take power back in moments of struggle. Often when tough situations arise, that’s when we loose our presence. Our minds can be loud, and when it wants to find an easy out- well, our minds can be anywhere at anytime, remembering a good time last week, yesterday’s date, or fantasizing about future endeavours.. On the contrary your body, your breath, sweat, and physical sensations can only be here, right now, in this moment. Using my being as a tool to find, and keep coming back to presence has been a game changer. ✨ This is all great, and maybe you’re just thinking ‘wow this girl really likes yoga..’ - which would be true - but where I gain from this investment and where I notice my return, is off my mat... Where I notice my shifting into power, growth, and self awareness isn’t always during yoga, and it isn’t always an immediate thing.. The inquiry of myself, and who I am in each moment starts to play it’s role throughout everyday, when something difficult, unexpected, uncomfortable, challenging or tough presents itself. I used to constantly run away from the moment and into my head.. loosing presence, and missing out on the opportunity of being in the now. Now I have the tools I need to stay and breath, and I promise it becomes easier and easier each time.
