this is a writing blog for the concept of the character VANESSA, from the LITTLE MERMAID films. given that this portrayal of her character is a bit different from the movies, here are a few key elements about the concept i have developed of vanessa
she is not urusula herself, but a creation of the witch, made of seaweed and foam. vanessa does not posess a heart of any kind, as she is nothing but a puppet created by ursula. she does, however, posess ariel's voice, and whenever she comes across the mermaid, a small beam of light can be seen protruding from the center of her throat.
vanessa is heavily inspired by the concept of ODILE from the SWAN LAKE. the impostor, the other face of the same coin. she is ariel's foil, because she was created to be so. she has ariel's original voice that ursula kept, and a few mannerisms from ariel herself.
there is something eerily inhuman about vanessa's eyes. they are far too gray, almost silver, and they seem to almost glisten in the darkness. overall, vanessa gives off an uncanny vibe, like there is something not quite right about the way her beauty is displayed. she feels not her own person, but whatever the person who meets her wants her to be.
vanessa does not have any goals of her own, because she has only been created with ursula's goals in mind. she will do anything to get the prince, because that is why she was created. lacking a beating heart, she seemingly has no emotions nor anything other than what ursula has felt and feels: greed and anger and maliciousness.
vanessa feels cold to the touch, always. that is why she always covers her skin with heavy dress fabrics, and avoids human contact most of the time.
