Tomorrow is my birthday. I require much attention by way of Endeavour related content. Please remember my fetish for the colors at the end of Pylon.
We are up to That Scene in “Passenger”, and as if it weren’t painful enough, I know that looming in the ether, to slap me like a dead mackerel after it’s over, is fucking Claudine.
Finally!!!! Booking season is over! I have both the bandwidth and the renewed desire to rewatch #endeavour!
Watched the pilot again for the first time in probably a year. Maybe even more. God, it’s perfect. Taking a little bit of a break has made me appreciate this miraculous show anew. I’d watched it so many times in such a short space that I’d memorized every single moment. It’s nice to not remember every solitary beat and have a few surprises over again.
OK, yes, I’m skipping “Girl“. I might go back later. NEEDS MUST BE GETTING MY #FUGUE ON.
I haven’t been on here in so long that I’ve completely forgotten how to use Clideo to make GIFs. Here’s a random prefab one.
This is solely for @too-antigonish. Rather, many of you may appreciate it, but it’s one of my very few non—Endeavour posts specifically in response to a comment she made on my previous post.
My dad, sister and I at Lloyd Alexander’s home. I think I was seven. That’s Mr. Alexander and his wife Janine on the left.
Getting to know your mutuals
Thanks for the tag @jessieren and @fanficrocks
1. Origin of My Blog's Name:
The simplest version is that it comes from a mash-up of my interest in Greek tragedies—Antigone in particular—with the poem by Hugh Mearns called "Antigonish" that begins: "Yesterday, upon the stair / I met a man who wasn't there / He wasn't there again today / I wish, I wish he'd go away…" After starting to use the name online, I then discovered that the poem itself is named after the town of Antigonish in Nova Scotia, Canada.
2. "I'll always order this food":
Anything in noodle form.
3. Most Overused Emoji:
I speak emoji like a toddler—meaning not well and I have like three words. 😂 is probably the most frequent.
4. My Current Comfort Movie, Show, and Book:
Movies: My Neighbor Totoro, Raising Arizona, Young Frankenstein
TV: Endeavour, The Hour, Schitt's Creek, Murderbot, Yes Minister
Books: Depends on the kind of comfort I need but, usually genre fiction and mysteries—especially Dorothy Sayers. Also love Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax series when it comes to comfort. Other things? Terry Pratchett—especially City Watch and Tiffany Aching series and Jonathan Stroud's Lockwood & Co. series.
Thank you for tagging me. I wrote a whole thing, and wound up, deleting it by accident. Anyway:
1. Origin of My Blog's Name: Morse is super confusing when it comes to coffee. He drinks coffee, he doesn’t drink coffee, he seeks out coffee, he asks people out for coffee, and then he tells Joan he doesn’t really go much for coffee. Anyway, it’s a direct quote from the show. It’s not an earth shattering reference or anything. It’s not brilliant. I love coffee. I just thought it was a funny name for a blog.
2. I’ll always order this food:
It isn’t sexy, but the answer has got to be a lamb shank. Yes, it’s a couple days after spring started and we’re talking about a heavy, low and slow braised meat, but I hit that bitch up wherever I come across it.
See also: dim sum
Also see also: Vietnamese food
3. Most Overused Emoji:
I never use emojis. I’m in a group text with two girlfriends, one of whom is recently (almost) divorced and is having a lot of sex. We occasionally use the eggplant emoji. That’s all I can contribute here.
4. My Current Comfort Movie, Book or TV Show:
Ted Lasso. Ted Lasso. Grey’s Anatomy. Downton Abbey. Occasionally, GoT. Oh, Ted Lasso.
It might not be cool to say this, but my comfort rereads are anything by Mark Kurlansky, and every series of books I knew by heart when I was a child. The Prydain Chronicles, all the Anne of Green Gables books, Little House on the Prairie. Also, the single classics like the Phantom tollbooth. I’m 57, and I reread them regularly. I have no shame about this.
Alien. I know what you’re thinking. How can that be a comfort movie? Well, it is. My father took me to see it in the movie theater in 1979. I was 10. Yes, he was crazy. Also, Jaws. Similar story. Galaxy Quest. Star Wars OG. Lots of others.
5. Song on Repeat
I couldn’t even pick a genre on repeat. I listen to a lot. Vivaldi? Nina Simone? Barbra Streisand? Skrillex? I want it all.
If I had to choose a single song, it would probably be one of those ‘songs of summer’ like Uptown Funk or something maybe, for this exercise, Lizzo‘s “Good As Hell “?
6. My Current Hyperfixation
I wish I had the emotional bandwidth for a hyperfixation.
7. Oddly Specific Thing That Brings Me Joy:
I’m feeling a little joyless ATM.
8. What smell makes me happy?
I’m with @too-antigonish. Not really much for smells. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten more and more sensitive to any extraneous smells. Even perfumes that I loved and wore for years like Clinique Happy and various Jo Malone fragrances have begun to wage war with me. Other than certain food smells, I love when the ground starts to thaw and spring begins to take place. That smell of damp earth and sunshine and things growing. Also, I love the smell of a campfire, if the smoke doesn’t stink up my hair and I can move a reasonable distance away from it.
9. Something I Loved as a Kid and Secretly Still Do.
See above. Although it’s not a secret. Now leave me alone, I want to see if Jo and Laurie work out.
10. My phone wallpaper right now.
Most of my wallpaper is photographs that I took myself. I will share a few with you.
11. Early Bird or Night Owl
Unfortunately, early bird. I wish I could sleep later.
12. If you work, what is your profession, and do you love it?
I work. I work much too much. I don’t know if it’s technically a profession. I’m an arts administrator, typically in a nonprofit setting. Right now I work booking touring Broadway across the country. I currently hate it. I don’t really hate it, I just happen to hate it right now.
I can’t think of anybody else to tag.

Merry Christmas, everyone! I miss you guys!

And it's about music...
I am *so* ready for this film!
This looks SUBLIME.
Who is this? Wrong answers only
Following our (almost) unanimous outpouring of grief about the Betrayal haircut and the utter lack of curls 😩😩 and inspired by @too-antigonish I present an indepth and 'scientific analysis' of Evans hair (curls edition)
First a reminder of our current predicament... namely the no curl Betrayal crop. Bonus points for scruff and the blue shirt, very many minus points for the khaki 'shacket'
And yet we had such promising potential of curls only a few short weeks ago at the read through (I'm ignoring that this look has a feel of 'I'm late and just threw a bucket of gel on my head before I left the house')
And so here begins a brief (actually not very brief) history of the Evans curl inventory
Short short - did someone let him loose with the clippers or is his barber a psychopath who has no time for curls..
2. Short and gelled but with some curl escape potential (bonus points for beard, additional bonus points for blue uniform/shirt/suit)
3. Endeavour Pilot/very early Endeavour - admittedly its not horrendously short and it does have some curl potential but who the hell styled his hair like that...
4. Short(ish) with bonus scruff. I can forgive the lack of full of curls here... for.... reasons... (@season-77 may be able to expand on said 'reasons')
5. Curl-escape potential achieved (also bonus blue linen shirt and just *look* at him...)
6. Curls curls curls... glorious glorious curls... shorter curls, longer curls... any kind of curl (preferably slightly unkempt and falling over his forehead...)
7. Weaponised Bedhead (minus points for dirty:hot psycho, very very many bonus points for Venice Evans/Morse...)
8. Curly hair of despair
9. Hot mess curls
10. Honourable mention category - aka is anyone even looking at his hair at this point... (well, yes, and the curls still make it better but y'know...)
Fabulous work @jessieren—a truly comprehensive overview!
While I think most of us would happily watch him sporting anything from barely-there hair to riotous curls, many of us have a marked preference for the latter.
Until they return I think this post needs to be regularly recirculated in remembrance of what we've lost—and in hope for the future.
Very impressive, scholarly and almost forensic analysis. In awe, as usual.
But why is the scarf important?
Found this earlier and it made me giggle…
#TheScarfIsImportant
Yep yep it definitely is..
Certainly is important…as the #ScarfOfDoom!

Fermentation for Fidgety Finger Friday.
Please enjoy the multiple finger fidgets, under glass, if you please.

Sorry for being so absent… and for more recycled fidgets but Evans still isn’t complying with my need for new content (ok he gets a mini pass for the one photo this week but.. )
Anyway happy Friday all
Also, sorry for being so absent! I should have some time this summer to spend time with you lovely people. Happy Fourth of July!
This one is called "Smile that doubles as actual light source..."
If you can't do angst and suffering, then Endeavour is not the show for you. But that doesn't mean you can't be thrilled when something a little different happens.
I've said about a million times, "Oh, this is the moment when it hooked me," but seriously--the first time I saw this smile, I was done for. Talk about an entire face lighting up...
Wishing this guy many of these smiles (and thanking him for many in return) on his birthday.
