Happy one year anniversary to chapters 3 & 4 of Deltarune! I thought it would be an appropriate time to redraw my first ever Tenna fanart. These drawings are almost exactly one year apart.
It's true what they say... If you ever want to improve your drawing ability rapidly just get really, really abnormal about a character.
Today, we are VERY pleased to announce the opening of Great God Grove's very own YURI ZINE, hosted by @maarshmint and @mcmonstructuk, otherwise known as the Fireflies of the Setting Sun zine!!
What is the FOTSS zine?
The Fireflies of the Setting Sun zine is a zine made to focus on the less appreciated yuri ships within the Great God Grove fandom! As such, we ask that you please refrain from submitting anything that involves gender swapped yaoi ships (such as Inspekchin, Lovestory, etc etc). While we always love and appreciate things such as trans headcanons, we would rather focus on those in canon that often get left out. If we were to allow gender swapped ships, then I fear we would just run into the same issue once again of gender-swapped yaoi dominating this zine. Ships we would love to see in this zine includes: Pattypoke, Missyking, Razzking, Lulurazz, Cornflower (Pattycob), Prankcall (Cobimug), etc etc!
When will submissions open?
Submissions will be opening on June 5th!
How long will we have?
Three months! Submissions will close on September 5th!
I will include a small (P)FAQ with extra details below the cut for any interested in participating!
What can I submit?
We will be accepting both written and visual submissions! This includes both digital art and traditional art! Digital art pieces must be at LEAST 1700 x 2200 with at LEAST 300 dpi. You may submit using any format, but PNG is preferred. For physical pieces, we ask that they are JPEGs with multiple angles of your work. Written pieces must be 500-1,000 words. If longer, please link a google doc/AO3 with the writing.
Is there a theme?
Not necessarily! All we ask that your piece either includes a yuri ship, OR, a piece with a character(s) expressing their connection to sapphic identities. Poly ships are also welcomed! As long as your piece relates to sapphism/lesbianism in any way, you're good to go! It doesn't JUST need to be ships!
Will this be physically printed?
Maybe. If there is enough interest, we can potentially look at prints, but there is no guarantee. It depends on if we have the means to get it done! HOWEVER. Please note that a fee will need to be paid if physical versions do release!
What kind of art will be allowed?
As long as it's kept 13+, anything! Non-sexual nudity IS allowed, but anything NSFW is NOT. This goes for writing too.
How many pieces can I submit?
As many as you like!
Can I submit pre-existing pieces?
Yes! Please just be sure to note that it's an art piece you made before the zine so we can prioritize any new pieces we receive.
Can I post my submission on social media early?
Yes! We will not make anyone wait to post their submissions to any social media accounts. If you would rather wait for the zine to be released, then go for it! If you want to post your stuff before the zine's release, then feel free to! It's entirely up to you!
If you choose to post your work to any socials, please use #Fireflies of the Setting Sun Zine and/or #FOTSS Zine in your work so we can find and reblog it! Also feel free to tag this account in your post too so we have a higher chance at seeing it!
Why Fireflies of the Setting Sun?
We thought fireflies were a perfect representation for the yuri ships within fandom spaces. Fireflies are small but bright, just as yuri ships are small (underrepresented) but still have their own light to them that fandom wouldn't be the same without. Not only that, but they're usually only seen after dark! Which follows our sunset theme wonderfully! And of course, the sunset is there to represent the lesbian flag :}
If you have any extra questions, by all means PLEASE feel free to send us asks! All this info will be relayed in the submission form itself, and I can make another separate post with this FAQ (+ any extra questions we get) on it's own!
This June, as we seem to sit in a world of chaos and great demand for social change, it is a pride month in which it is hard to ignore the work and life of Marsha P. Johnson. Many of us know her name as an early and fearless leader LGBTQ+ movement, and we recognize her beautiful ear to ear smile adorned in red lipstick and shining with positivity. But in all of her legendary efforts for the queer community, to understand Marsha is to understand her not only the light she brought to her life but also the controversy of her death. (MinnieMuse)
In the early morning of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn. Local members of the gay community fought back when the police became violent. Johnson was regarded as one of the “Vanguards;” those who pushed back against the police. In 1987, reflecting back on the Stonewall uprising, Johnson recalled arriving at around 2 in the morning shortly after the riots had started and the Stonewall building was aflame. The riots reportedly started at around 1:20 that morning after Stormé DeLarverie fought back against the police officer who attempted to arrest her that night. (GNOF.org)
On July 6, 1992, Johnson’s body was found floating in the Hudson River near the West Side Piers that she frequented. While the police declared her death a suicide, many see her death as another moment of violence against the LGBTQ community. Now, even decades after Johnson’s devastating death, her legacy continues to impact queer communities. (Faulkner Morgan Archive)
Me: "Damn people are REALLY BAD at knowing when to tag their eyestrain art/images...either that or they just don't care about photosenitive epileptic people like me. I feel really sad now."
Person: "But Allison, what if they just don't know or understand what qualifies as eyestrain and what doesn't?"
Me: "You know what? That could be a factor...While it is always better to be safe rather than sorry (so YES people should always tag eyestrain even if they're unsure if it "counts" or not) maybe you've got a point?"
Anyways! HERE'S YOUR HANDY GUIDE TO WHAT CAN COUNT AS EYESTRAIN! I'm pulling this straight from the Artfight rules page about what needs to be labeled and filtered as eyestrain because it's VERY helpful and VERY accurate! I also know not everybody has an AF account and might not always have access to this handy guide, and this is an important resource; That's why I'm sharing it here! (under the cut)
PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!!! THIS IS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OTHERS!!!
Full eyestrain AF page link
"But Allison! How were you able to screenshot that example if you're so sensitive to eyestrain?"
I dimmed the HELL out of my computer screen and looked away while taking the screenshot and did the same when putting it into this post, that's how lol. BUT YEAH ANYWAYS!!! Once again:
PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!!! THIS IS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OTHERS!!!
i don't care if you wanna fuck fat people or hairy people or trans people or the elderly or disabled people or whatever. can you treat them like human beings
I was practicing poses but then I decided, why not draw Julie?? I had so much fun coloring her even tho I didn't mean to make her this colorful, I got carried away
also these days I'm feeling pretty motivated to draw even though I have a lot to study but I'm too joyful (get it right cause.. she's Julie Joyful...)
The rest of you can (and really ought to!) reblog, but it's not your turn to talk. Just listen and reflect!
What DOES a good apology for antiblackness look like, to you?
Not a shitty twitter apology that dodges accountability. Not a genuine apology made to white fans to soothe their embarrassment and egos and maintain white solidarity.
What does an ACTUAL apology for antiblackness consist of, to you?
What actions do you need to see from people who claim to be better, to deserve your support despite a history of being unsafe?
Why do you think nonblack people feel they're entitled to grace, and what would actually EARN them your grace? What makes you not want to offer it at all?
I think there's a disconnect between what the group being harmed needs, and what people think the group being harmed should settle for. We've been forced to know the latter. How do Y'ALL feel?
What does an ACTUAL apology for antiblackness consist of, to you?
it needs to be actually take the situation seriously and not trying to be funny when addressing antiblackness
It has to be directed towards black , can't be saying"the ppl offended by-" or POC when it's Abt antiblack rascim especifically
Actually listen to the ppl calling you ou
Accept and acknowledge that u were antiblacks
actually talk Abt the situation and why and how it was antiblacks,
U are in the internet u have access to information don't hide behind your own ignorance and face the guilt
Don't victimizw urself talking Abt ur intentions or how u "didn't mean it" . It doesn't matter bc it doesn't make it less racist or harmful.
It doesn't matter how old it was bc it's the internet everything u do is there forever and it still was racist and it hurt black ppl them and it hurts black ppl now and even if it wasn't online spreading antiblacks shit is always a bad thing
If context is really that important be clear that if doesn't make it less racist or less bad
If there's a black person involved in the situation address them directly and apologize to them too privately and publicly if necessary
Don't use the fact that there might be black ppl defending you too, just bc some don't care doesn't mean other black ppl that sealed with ur shit don't deserve this apology
Don't try to paint urself as a victim. Just because some dipshits might be harassing doesn't mean ur antiblackness will suddenly go away.
Do not try to paint black ppl rightfully calling something out as bully harassers or whatever
Don't enable any racist fuck from joining the conversation trying to defend you and as always treat the situation with the severity it deserves
Be ok with black ppl disliking you distrusting etc bc of your actions specialty this goes is double if there's and history of past antiblackness from you
If this is not the first time ur having to address your antiblacks behavior u REALLY need to actually stop to think and unlearn shit bc 1 time might have been ignorance or a mistake at 3 or more you racist and antiblack and probably dangerous and horrible in general
Start being a actually ally to black ppl , and don't actually let any instances of antiblackness happen bc of you or the ppl in your circles
Don't do it again
But either way 90% of the time it's not an actual apology or an apology that isn't for nonblacks to pat themselves in the back and stop feeling bad. So I make my own conclusions based on the situation but even when there's apologies I do accept most of the time I still carry the distrust and disappointed towards them
