The first time Charles Moriarty met Amy Winehouse was the day he shot the cover for her debut album. “When I look at these images, I can’t help but smile. You can see the freedom and joy and youth in them,” he says. He held on to the photos after her death because he felt it would be wrong to use them in any sort of commercial way. But after meeting with Asif Kapadia, director of the Oscar-winning documentary Amy, he feels ready to release this collection of rare, mostly unpublished images. 

Taken in New York and London in the months leading up to her debut album, Moriarty hopes the book Before Frank will serve as a testament to her spirit and passion and “allow for these important memories to remain alive with Amy’s fans.” See more photos and support the book here.
