“there’s nothing wrong with talking to orion,” she stated, “he’s not any different from a cat or a toad or any other animal.” her eyes narrowed again and she looked at him. “i have plenty, thank you.” she raised a brow, “why are you offering? i’m flattered, axel.” 

‘‘Did it sound like a concern? I just find it stupid when people talk to animals.’‘ He mumbled without caring too much to be heard. The girl would probably be offended and Axel wouldn’t want to be caught hearing all of that stuff. Aquila however, found the best freaking time to embarrass Axel, with being too stubborn to not let him tie the letter. He sighed as staring directly at Aquila, too proud to say a word.

Lizzie lifted an eyebrow, mirroring his expression. “Concerned. No.” The single word held no sense of a lie, because there wasn’t any. Never one to keep her answers short, Lizzie continued. “Books contain knowledge. And while knowlege is power, it is only power it is used. So whether or not that power is bad depends on the person. So I think what you are really asking is am I afraid of you.”

It was no question in Lizzie’s mind. She stood up, meeting the boy’s eyes. “I am not afraid of you Axel Londoño.”

Maintaining the eye contact, Axel lifted his lips into a confident smile, as if showing Lizzie that she should be afraid of him. His words, however, showed no sign of smugness. They were open-ended, waiting for Lizzie’s commentary. 

‘‘You don’t know what I’m capable of yet.  ’‘ Without taking his eyes off of her, Axel leaned in, he didn’t want it to sound like a warning, instead he wanted to let her know that a person could change, easily. ‘‘Good luck with figuring me out. Since you like figuring things out.’‘

the girl’s skills on a broom were a lot better than her father’s around this age. she let out an aggravated groan, pulling out her wand. “if i hit your foot then it’s not my fault,” she replied with a glare before pointing the wand towards the stain. “scourgify!”

‘‘You like making a scene, don’t you?’‘ He rolled his eyes, luckily to both of them Amelia was successful and it ended without a complete disaster. ‘‘Be careful next time, other houses are giving us nicknames to embarrass us. You wouldn’t want to be called something bat blood and- I don’t know. I’m not stupid enough to think of stupid nicknames.’‘

Lizzie cocked her head to the side, his question causing her to pause in thought. “I suppose both. I mean, if you were trying to be subtle you should probably be mad someone caught you–though frankly I think that is more your thought than mine. Although, my success rate in figuring out which books you would steal is very impressive.”

She watched him, trying to read his emotions. Emotions were hard. They were complicated and illogical. But Lizzie couldn’t gauge any anger, so she thought it best to just stay honest. “Yes,” she said to his other question. “Only when they are doing something interesting though. Otherwise I really don’t care.”

Normally, other students would tell someone the second they saw Axel but Lizzie was different. He didn't know why she kept quiet about it, maybe she was that kind of person, not sticking her nose into peoples business, contrary to many. If that was the case, everything would be easy. "Are you okay with this?" He held the book in his hands for Lizzie to see. "You know why these books are used for. Aren't you concerned?" He lifted an eyebrow, regarding how she was there every time Axel knew Lizzie liked books but Dark Magic? It wasn't for everyone's taste. Most of the people didn't understand the beauty of Dark Arts.

“Oh, it doesn’t,” Lizzie said, brightening up. She was not very good at catching sarcasm, and it was rare for anyone to ask what was on her mind or her options. Most people in her year avoided her. Sometimes it was nice to have someone to talk to. “Well, I’ve seen you grab one week averaging every two weeks from the forbidden section since the school started. Now, based on your previous selections I curated a logical list of titles that you would need as follow-up readings. I haven’t been wrong yet. Although, I don’t know how you haven’t gotten caught. You aren’t subtle.”

Lizzie shrugged. She closed her book and carefully folded her hands on top, staring at him as if he was one of her potions experiments. “Of course, I know little about subtlety. Not many studies on the subject, so I am afraid I can’t be of much help there.”

‘‘I’m confused...’‘ He was aware of the attention he was receiving, he didn’t try to guess the reason, it was normal for her to be staring since Axel was like, an attractive guy. However, somewhere in his mind suggested him that she would look at others like this too. She was weird anyway. ‘‘Should I be mad or be impressed.’‘ Preferably going with the first choice he let the words out, thinking about it Axel would also observe if someone would continuously come to the restricted section so instead of using the word ‘stalk’ he chose ‘watch.’   ‘‘Is it normal for you to watch people or?’‘

“embarrassed? hardly,” caelia spoke, a light pink tinted on her cheeks. there was nothing wrong talking to orion, owls were intelligent creatures and orion had been hers since her grandmother bought as a present for her eleventh birthday. she brushed off her jeans and crossed her arms, looking at axel. she had seen him in passing but had never spoken to him before. “there’s nothing wrong with sending a letter back home,” she stated, “seems to be what you’re doing anyway since you’re up here and all.” 

‘‘I was referring to your odd choice of companion.’‘ With a slack of expression, he watched Aquila. It wasn’t that they didn’t form a bond, it was just he wouldn’t need to speak with Aquila. Besides, Axel wouldn’t let anyone to see his soft side with animals. ‘‘You have no friends or something?’‘

Lizzie casually looked up from her book, looking behind her. “Are you talking to me?” she asked, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “Oh, well of course you are. What a silly question. Apologies. I was distracted. Just got to the chapter on man-eating arctic jumping spiders. Quite thrilling,” her voice rambled on as if she was just talking about the weather and not creatures that sounded like they had been created by the devil himself. 

“Longer than you, to answer your question. You looked like you were going to waste time going through all the books–not to mention the added time of acting like you weren’t looking at the books since, as you know, they are restricted. That would bother me quite a bit. I’m all for efficiency and your lack of it would have been quite distracting,” Lizzie met his eyes, unblinking as if staring into his very soul. “That was the book you needed for you project, yes?”

He wasn’t sure if he was being fooled, or if he actually met with the weirdest person on the earth, or if it was weird that he wasn’t annoyed by the other’s rambling. Chuckling at all the stuff she had said, Axel tried to understand if she was being serious. After realizing she indeed was serious, he couldn’t help but fixed his gaze on her. ‘’The project, yes.’’   Softening his voice tone too much, possibly implying the sarcasm he continued. ‘’I’m curious how you know that. If the lack of efficiency won’t disturb you, explain?’’

“well could you help me get it off?” was her follow up question with brows raised. she was used to the comments about her clumsiness always coming out against her. “without me to protect your precious goal, the team would be dead,” she retorted with a roll of her eyes. “now get this stain off my robes so we can get to herbology, yeah?”

‘‘That’s why we call it a team game.’‘ He approved with a nod, Merlin knew how Amelia was skilled in Quidditch, rather opposite to Potions. Well, people weren’t perfect, were they? ‘‘But I’m not touching that thing, not today.’‘

Lizzie sat in the library, a copy of Magical Arachnid and Where to Find Them in her hands. She had just finished reading on a species in southern Africa that survived by sucking the blood out of virgin women when she saw a familiar face walk by out of the corner of her eye. Axel Londono of Hufflepuff. Lizzie knew him from passing. They were in the same year, but she had never talked to him outside of class. She had seen him coming to the library off and on throughout the years as she pretended no to notice him slipping forbidden books under his arm. From his most recent selections, Lizzie could only assume working on some sort of experiment. She had curated a list in her mind of books, and played a game with herself. She could predict what book he was going to get next. So far she had not been wrong, which is why she spoke up when she saw him head in the wrong direction.

“You won’t find it there,” she said, her voice knowing as she kept her eyes on her own book. She flipped the page. “Three shelves down towards the bottom. Bussnell is the author.”

To create a spell, he had to figure out certain things. Like what would be the purpose? The limits? Would people be able to adverse the spell? All of those questions required a research, not for answers but for inspiration. He was going to invent something extraordinary, something only he would understand and only he would master. The problem was, however,  the obligation to do it in secrecy and upon hearing the voice, Axel was sure of how he sucked at it. It took him awhile to react, as he was trying to convince himself that no one would be there but the voice continued, with suggesting- no with implying that the book he was looking for was at three shelves down towards the bottom. He was wondering the source, of course, still he h a d to check. There was no way she would be correct, right? If she wasn’t some weird mind-reader or something. Axel slowly followed the directions she had given, to find out the exact book he was looking for. While confusion was appearing on his face, he turned to see the source this time. Lizzie Burke? He had only known the name and saw her at there and there, nothing more. ‘’How long have you been there?’’
