Jovi was running the counter for a little bit and it was honestly his favorite thing to do. He love talking to the customers and that’s why he even let most of the kitchen be seen so he could talk to people from there and come out to finish or continue any conversation. Today was a little slow, so he was just relaxing behind the counter and looked up as the little bell went off that the door had opened and someone had come in. He stood up leaned over the counter and smiled at the man before him. “Depends. Which side of the counter you looking at, handsome?” He pointed to the right where the regular baked items were and then to the left where the edibles were. “Either way, can’t go wrong with a classic brownie.” He teased.

A chuckle escaped Aydin at the answer from the other. “I’m here for the twice baked part,” he said with a smile. Of course, he know it wasn’t obvious why Aydin was here, but at the same time, he wondered how many adults walked in asking for recommendations that were regular sweets and not the edible. “I’m familiar with edible so it doesn’t have to be for beginners.” Brownies were always a safe choice and they were looking good. “I guess the brownies are a good option. What else is a big seller?,” Aydin asked. “I can’t believe this town as an edible shop now. I would never have thought.”

The concept of the bakery was interesting and Aydin wasn’t there for the normal baked goods. He had been surprised to see such a place in Providence, something so forward in what, in his mind, hadn’t been the most progressive place. Or maybe Los Angeles and New York just tainted his memories, the boundaries of what had been possible there pushing so far that it often felt like there were none at all. The singer used to have an usual dealer, someone whose products he knew but he figured that there were no harm that could come from a few edibles. “Hey,” the male said the one behind the counter. “First time customer, what do you recommend?”

It had been a tensed game, Aydin wishing nothing more to win so that he could see Atlas go around the bar and tell everyone that he had the skills of a toddler. A groan escaped him as he threw his looked at the ceiling as the other male pocketed the winning 8 ball. “That was brutal man,” Aydin said with a laugh. The game had been tied and if Atlas didn’t win this, Aydin probably would have beat him. “Guess I’m going to see you often for coffee now. Come on, I’m buying you a beer so I can drown my defeat.”

Someone else handled every aspect of his affairs? Joanna briefly thought about her parents, particularly her step-father and how a lot of her life growing up revolved around what he wanted her to do. His plan, which had to be her plan. It was kind of a suffocating environment and even when she was at college, the man still had a hold on her even though he was states away. Joanna wondered if Aydin was referring to his own family or if he meant someone else. “I see,” she nodded. “So what kind of work did you do after that? If you don’t mind me asking.” Though right after that, Joanna felt uneasiness at how she was prying and she shook her head. “Or if it’s none of my business, feel free to tell me. I understand.” She laughed softly, not wanting him to feel obligated to tell a stranger any more than he was willing to.

It sounded conceited now that he had said it out loud. Most people probably didn’t have others handle their affairs. Most people probably had an accountant for tax season, when they could afford it. But for him, it went far beyond that. It made this, having a business on his own, even more thrilling. With music, there was something inside of him, always had been, that told him he wouldn’t fail. That he was destined to make it. In the end, he had fail. But the café was different, he just couldn’t say exactly how. There was an easy answer to her question. Aydin used to be in the music business, sold albums, gave sold out concerts around the world. “A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Took jobs here and there. I used to travel a lot.” He gave the woman his most charming smile, the one he used to give from the stage. “I guess we have that in common,” he told the other. “And now we’re both here, ready to set roots.”

𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲:

In response to the question, Emily shook her head. “No, he’s with my mom for the day, so I have some time before I have to go meet with one of the bars around here.” The nicest part about living so close to her family was that her parents got to see her son whenever they wanted. The help was very much appreciated, considering her ex-boyfriend wasn’t a part of their child’s life. “Really? That’s so kind of you, Aydin,” Emily said, pulling out her wallet to leave the barista a nice tip instead. “I’ll just have a medium black coffee. Nothing fancy.” 

There was the hint of a pout on Aydin’s face. He was glad Em could get a moment to herself, but he liked seeing the little guy. “You just don’t want me to give him chocolate cake, admit it,” he said teasingly. It was kind of her to leave the barista a tip and the male knew he would give her frequent free coffee is she wanted. With the way he was running his business, free coffee to Atlas and now Em, he was lucky to have a hefty fund or he’d go bankrupt quickly. “You sure you don’t want anything else? How are you? And how’s the little guy?” Aydin had no idea how she did it, raising a child on her own. He could barely held himself together and couldn’t imagine having another human depend on him.

There were so many natives in Providence Peak which was nice to see. However, Joanna also never blamed anyone for leaving their hometown. Most people probably did have the urge to go free, travel to other places and live elsewhere. Not everyone had that luxury, though. Some natives stayed by choice while others maybe didn’t have a choice, didn’t have a means to leave. Jo had been able to leave San Fran and was honestly glad she did. “Yeah,” she agreed. “It really does.” Providence was like a magnet, honestly. “Really, you haven’t?” Jo pondered. “Well, I think you’ll do just fine. It’s a really nice place and even just your willingness to do it says a lot.”

When Aydin left at 18, he never thought he would come back. At least, not outside of visiting friends and family. Here he was now, not only owning a house in Providence but having a business, something to tie him down entirely. “I really haven’t. I worked here years ago, as a teen but after that, I always had someone handling every aspect of my affairs.” He had an agent, a lawyer, an accountant and they all worked out for him to make more money. So to be the one in charge of that was actually freeing. “You think? See, plain people, always so confident,” he said with a smile. “Thank you. I needed that small pep talk.”

I’m disappointed that there aren’t any sex scenes in Erkenci Kus since Can Yaman is so damn fine.

Basic Kneads was one of those places that Sage made an effort to avoid if she could. Having met the love of her life there over a slice of mushroom and spinach pizza, the woman that was still her wife despite having disappeared from her life almost four years ago, the place held a lot of memories that she wasn’t particularly thrilled about dealing with and had managed to shove down far enough in her chest to have not dealt with over the years. Still, sometimes she just craved a good pizza from a place that had long been her favorite even before Caroline showed up in her life and she somehow always caved to ordering three slices for takeout, making sure to get in and out and not allow her eyes to wander to that particular table in a very specific corner of the restaurant as she waited for the slices to be cooked to Basic Knead’s usual perfection. As she waited, her eyes fell on a man near her who had ordered just moments before she had, familiarity tugged at her mind and it clicked, her brow wrinkling curiously. “Hey, uh, you’re the guy who owns Deja Brew right? The Red Eye drip has honestly saved my life during a few long shifts.”

Of all the places he traveled, all the food he ate while on tour, often from the best places the city he was in had to offer, there was just something that was better about Basic Kneads’ pizza. Maybe it was just the fact that it tasted like home or maybe they really were better than all the others. Whatever the reason was, Aydin was happy to stand in line to wait for his order. After a huge week, hell, a huge life, he was ready to kick it at home, with a large pizza for himself and a and beers. It was the opposite of his life in the music world and the alone time was welcomed. He was pulled out of his thoughts by the voice of a woman. “That’s me yes,” he replied with a soft smile. “Don’t tell anyone, but The Red Eye is the only way I can get up in the morning.” Aydin had never been an early riser but he was there every morning, or almost every morning, when the coffee shop opened, which meant he got up at an hour where he often used to go to bed before. “I’m happy it can help you too.”

Emily did not leave the neighborhood of Bighorn Hills often, considering she both lived and worked there, but when she did she always made sure to stop by Deja Brew to get a coffee. Aydin had been a friend of hers since they were both small, so she enjoyed supporting his business in any way that she could. Providence Peak was a town with a lot of wonderful small businesses. Walking into the coffee shop, she smiled at the sight of her friend. “I thought about texting you before I came in, but I had a feeling that you would be here. I was running some errands, so I decided I’d stop by. How are things going? 

Coming back to town meant being more present in the lives of those he called friends, real friends, and that included Emily. While he was away, Aydin didn’t keep up with friends as much as he would liked, his lifestyle being far from the life of Providence. "Em,” the male exclaimed as he saw her. The smile on his lips was warm as he stopped was he was doing to greet her. “It’s going better than I imagined it would. No munchkin with you?” Aydin peered around, as if the toddler could be hidden somewhere. “Whatever you want, it’s on the house.”

If anyone younger wanted to steal his thunder, he’d let them have it. At some point, he’d lose whatever it was that everyone wanted. That’s what happened to people like him, right? When the sex was gone, no one would give a shit about him. It was inevitable and to think it wasn’t would’ve made him an idiot. “Nah, no one could ever replace me. No one younger has what it takes to keep up with these ladies. They’re a league of their own, man.” Contrary to popular belief, he might’ve slept with half the female population of Providence Peak, but no one had his respect like a woman did. “It’s not that,” he grinned, though part of it was. He was a sore loser, sue him. “Alright. Bet’s on. I’m at the Jagged Yard on Friday’s. If you’re serious it, show up.”

“You’re almost going to make me regret leaving without dipping my toe in that pool. Almost,” Aydin said with a laugh. There had not being any shortage of men and women in the male’s life since he left Providence and he was sure he hadn’t really miss on anything, well, almost anything. There were relationships that could still be standing if he hadn’t left and, not for the first time, Ayd wondered if he really had taken the right choice by leaving town all these years ago. “I’ll see you Friday. If I were you, I’d get some practice in before.”

Well, cheers to having any sliver of confidence then, because Joanna sure didn’t feel too confident that week. With everyone going on in her personal life. She hoped she would build up more courage at some point but for now, she was just winging each day at a time. “A Providence native, huh?” Joanna nodded but didn’t pry until anything more. “Honestly, it was just Business Administration and Management. Basically just what my step-father wanted for me. I got the degree, although it’s somewhere collecting dust now,” she explained with a shrug but smiled. “I chose another route, decided to do what I wanted, and just traveled instead. But yeah, the town is beautiful and it’s been great catching up with old friends.”

And with Oakley living there in Providence, maybe she’d opt to stay forever as long as Oak did. Maybe that was a little forward and maybe even a little desperate, but that was what her heart was saying. She didn’t mention that to him, sticking to the conversation at hand.

"Yeah,” Aydin said with a smile as the mention of being a native. He never hid his roots, this town shaping the man he was today. And being back felt right, despite the reasons. If there was one place to find himself again, this was it. That was assuming it wasn’t too late. “Guess this town has a way of pulling people back.” There was an impressive whistle coming from him as the woman talked about her degree. And a chuckle followed as she explained it had been almost useless. That was how he view many degrees, at least when it came to him. “Feel like that would be useful to me now. I’ve never done this before,” he confessed.

“Oh, now that’s a bold statement,” Joanna laughed, raising an eyebrow in thought. “I’ve known people who’d beg to differ, about the plain thing. And sure, that would be great.” Under different circumstances, she may have caught on to the flirting a little sooner than she was now, but to be fair, her mind was on other things. She was a little bit distracted, although the barista didn’t know her personally so he wouldn’t actually know that. Jo probably seemed like a regular person with no crazy feelings of the past swirling in her brain. “Ah, yeah,” Joanna replied with a nod of confirmation.

“I’m originally from San Francisco but I lived in Providence during my college years, but that was like a decade ago.” Just saying that out loud was kind of crazy. Damn, how time flew. “I recently decided to move back. I’ve been here for around a month now. What about you?”

Aydin’s smile grew bigger as he gained more confidence and leaned more into the conversation. To think this used to be almost easier than breathing for him was almost foreign. He never had problems with small talk or any other kind of conversation before, but that was when he had the music. Now that it was gone, the male didn’t know who he was anymore and it made simple things such as this harder. “These people don’t know what they’re missing. Plain is not boring, it’s confidence in who you.” That had never been as true for Aydin as now, when he had left behind all the glitz and glamor of being a celebrity. There was such emptiness in all of it that speaking with someone who was the opposite felt refreshing.

“Born and raised here. I left 15 years ago to pursue other things,” he said very matter of factly. He wasn’t looking to get into it more, not to share the reasons behind him leaving. After all, this was a small town and people left all the time. “What did you study? You must have loved it to come back now. The town is great, really.”

𝐚𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐬​:

“Believe it or not, there’s a ton I haven’t tried yet. I’m still young though. I’ve got plenty of years to start crossing stuff out.” Same old people or fresh faces, Atlas didn’t really care. He’d had more than enough luck with people in town and he figured if Aydin tried hard enough, he could too. It was a perk of being attractive, right? Playing the field and having fun while doing it. “Some new faces here and there.” One in particular that he wanted the male to steer clear of. The last thing he wanted was to watch an older friend settle with a woman he’d almost considered leaving everything behind for. “Deal. If you beat me, I’ll tell everyone I have the skills of a toddler. I beat you, then I’ll be needing an owner’s special three out of five days a week. You sure you wanna go with that bet?”

Playing the field was fun for a while and Aydin had enjoyed it, maybe more than he should have. He wasn’t about to admit to anyone, let alone himself, but he wanted more now. He would be lying if he didn’t have someone in mind when he came back to town. Then again, he preferred to lie to himself and ignore all of it. “I’d be quick if I were you. Someone younger will come and steal your thunder,” Aydin said with a laugh. Rubbing his hands together, he smiled as Atlas agreed to his beating. “Why, too scared to lose?” It was strange to think of it now that he was back in Providence, but pool tables had been on his riders so often when touring that it now felt ridiculous to ask for such a thing. “I’m sure I want to go with that bet and beat you.”

At this point, he could’ve charged her fifty bucks for a sandwich and she would’ve gone for it. It was the one day she hadn’t prepped for lunch, which seemed to be kicking her in the ass already. Had she made the pasta dish instead of binge watching the Masked Singer, maybe she would’ve been a little more patient. Still, this was someone’s place of work; she’d never be rude, no matter how hungry she got.

“Don’t apologize. I should be saying congrats on the business,” she pointed out, the line that had been before her proving good for the place. “That would be amazing,” she hummed, tongue falling against her bottom lip. “Other than the obvious, are things usually busy around here? I might need to start coming out for my mid day coffee. Turns out, making it from a k-cup just isn’t as good as the real thing.”

Aydin was grateful for the stranger’s kind words, not that he thought anyone should throw a fit over a waiting line, not when they willingly entered it. But still, the blonde woman was making him feel better about it.  “Thank you,” he said with a small bow of his head. “So far so good, hopefully people are not here only because of the shinny and new thing.” Not that the Déjà Brew was new, but the owner was and with him had came a few changes.

Hopeful eyes looked at the customer as she mentioned coming back more often. It was part of the validation the male craved, the need to succeed in something other than his music. So far the coffee shop was filling part of the hole in his soul and it was part of the reason he was here from opening to close. It occupied him because as much as he loved being home alone, his fingers were somehow always itching for the instruments he put behind a locked door. “They’ve been for the last couple of days, but once the new factor vanish, who knows what’s it would be like. But I’d be very happy to learn your regular drink and have it waiting for you to come in.”
