— It was a nice, sunny day today. The weather was just perfect for even Erika to feel refreshed so early in the morning as the sun cast its warmth on Kanto and for her to follow some errands from her mother outside of Celadon City. While not often did she leave the city, staying in the gym or studying alongside her tutors back at home, her graceful strides had lead the way east, passing Saffron and to Lavender Town.

oh dear, he’s late...again. he wonders if this would be the day the older and much wiser man would scold Fire for his tardiness, but he shakes his head at the thought because Mr. Fuji would never. the reassuring thought still doesn’t deter him from pedaling his bike harder, however, and he wonders why he still even lives in pallet town and not closer to lavender town.
this thought does not stay with for too long as a gush of wind prevents him for thinking any deeper by knocking his hat off of his head.
he groans.
he parks his bike gently -- though his annoyance is evident by the violent way he sets the kickstand -- and hurries towards his tumbling hat. he blows away the pieces of grass clinging to the fabric and sets it firmly on top of his head, patting it down to make sure it doesn’t fly away again. this is when he almost -- emphasis on almost -- bumps into a very, very little girl (strange how such a small frame carried such an elegant aura) and he bows his head slightly to apologize to her. the girl, on the other hand, disregarded his gesture (though, to be fair, Fire’s action was only brief -- not even a second long) and asked about the Vulpix coiled within her arms.
“Nope.”
his answer is quicker than the wind currents surrounding them and he starts towards his bike, repeatedly whispering about how late he is. he sets hands on the handles and readies himself to take off, but he stops to look back at the girl and the Vulpix. eventually, his whole body moves back too.
“Oh!”
Fire’s exclamation is directed towards both the Vulpix and the girl, who he now recognizes as Erika. it’s strange how he still remembers her despite their brief introductions way back when, but he shrugs it off -- of course he’ll remember who Erika is, after all, she is a gym leader. (The same couldn’t be said for her, however, as Fire’s probably nothing but just an insignificant number.) for now, he decides to keep his realization about the gym leader quiet.
“I mean...it’s not mine, per se, but I do know where that little fella should be.”
he slowly brings a finger towards the Vulpix and the displeased growl the pokemon gives him makes Fire chuckle. he takes his hand away quickly.
“Still a little rambunctious, aren’t you? If you don’t mind, I can show you where he’s supposed to be--”
again, Fire’s interrupted by a growl. all he can do is sigh and turn towards his bike.
“Not like you have a choice in that matter...”
his sheepish smile matches his apologetic voice.
