Mira puts sits up straighter, her booted feet firmly on the ground, she tucks the paper in her jacket and holds her helmet in her lap. “Hi, you can assume right.” She mentally goes back to when her and Jordan checked and double checked the chains on the pack, “we made good use of those chains you helped us get, and Jordan and I made sure that all our people were there.” The rules were set, not just Delaware’s but the actual laws of the land with wolves, they had to be locked up tight, no one had any business being out and about too late. She’d have gone out and found her own members and dragged them back had they been out too late.
She plays with her helmet for a moment, fingers splayed over the top. “That family. It can’t be just a coincidence can it, she’s not just out somewhere blowing off steam?” She already figures the answer, she’s trying to be optimistic but it can’t be that easy, the way her friends talked about her, she didn’t seem like the girl who’d go out and not let her family know she was going.
“But yeah, you don’t have to worry about one of ours being the guilty party if anything did happen.” She thinks about what she would have done had one of her own not shown up, had they somehow not made it back, she wonders what she would do, if this girl went missing then as well, would she have told Delaware, but she knows that answer too. “I don’t think it means a whole lot, but I’d tell you had one of ours not shown.” Mira is loyal to her pack, but the idea that the blood of that girl would be on the hands of one of hers would put a crack in that bond. No matter what happens, when a full moon comes they all know they can be dangerous, they have no control and if one of the rogue pack hurt that girl, she couldn’t keep that from Delaware.
“Who knows with teenage human girl,” Delaware says with a shrug of his shoulders. It’s been decades since he’s been a teenager, and the memories are cobwebbed in his head, buried and fogged over. At one point Del was a nervous ball of hormonal energy just like everyone else. The problem is he doesn’t know anything about the missing human, so it’s hard for him to be a good judge of character.
“Well that’s a relief,” Delaware says but it actually isn’t. He had almost been hoping it was one of the rogue pups. All that’d need to happen was some discipline, a couple of conversations, and then Delaware could be done with it. But Mira seems certain it isn’t one of her wolves, the same way Jordan is certain, and that means the human girl’s disappearance is one big question mark. Delaware hates it a lot.
“If you find anything else out, keep me posted. The high pack might get involved if we can’t find answers for ourselves. And no one wants that, trust me.
