Talvryn smiled when his phone chimed an alert from his chest. He read the message and then sat up so quickly he almost fell off the couch. He read it again, just to make sure heâd understood it correctly, and then absently got to his feet.
He walked toward his room, then turned on his heel before he reached the door, going back down the hall to the kitchen. He was aware that he was pacing, but his mind was racing and he needed to slow down his thoughts and think what to do.
He couldnât deny that he was anxious at the thought of going out to lunch with Killian, but he really wanted to. As long as the restaurant wasnât too loud or busy, heâd probably be fine, and heâd get to talk to Killian in person again.
Emyr planned to take him to the Museum of Fine Arts today, but that wouldnât be until later. He could go to lunch and get back, and Emyr wouldnât even know heâd been gone. Talvryn frowned, suddenly irritated that he felt the need to hide things from Emyr for fear of his disapproval.
Feeling both defiant and excited, he replied:
TALVRYN: i was just thinking of making lunch, so that would be great! Iâve never had Greek food before and Iâd like to try it. Just text me when youâre here
His phone pinged and Killian reached for it with a controlled movement. The tightness in his chest and restless fidgets gave way to a warm and elated feeling and he grinned as he read Talvrynâs reply.Â
Killian hadnât planned on meeting with Talvryn again until the music festival, but he was glad Talvryn agreed to meet him for lunch. This time they would be able to talk without the added distraction of work or driving and Kostas was usually quiet this time of day.Â
He tucked his hair behind his ears and typed his reply:
KILLIAN: Sounds good! Iâll see you in a bit then
He had almost added a bit about putting on pants, but Killian was never one to run a joke into the ground.
As he left the balcony and made his way through through living room and down the hall to his bedroom, Killian reached up and scratched his jaw. Feeling the stubble, he realized heâd need to shave and at try to not look like he had lived at his desk for the past day and a half. While he hated to shave, meeting with Talvryn again, he thought, was worth it.Â
Killian quickly readied himself and dressed. It was a lovely day outside and so he forwent his usual flannel overshirt and chose one of his favorite t-shirtsâa soft, worn in, gray shirt that had the words âeat, sleep, engineerâ on it. Killian was rarely fussy about what he wore, but found himself wondering if the shirt was too casual. Again he wished Curran was home to recommend what to wear. He decided to let his hair fall free so he wouldnât have to waste time looking for a hair tie. He had just bought a pack but couldnât ever seem to find even one. Curran, he knew, had a habit of losing his and using Killianâs.Â
He then walked down the hallway to the kitchen. In case Curran came home, Killian wrote on the whiteboard on the fridge:
Went out to lunch, Iâll be back later.
He grabbed his keys from the bowl on the counter and left the apartment and went to his car.
He remembered the way well, Killian always had a photographic memory and after he went somewhere once, he found his way easily without the need for directions. Killian turned down Avalon and soon pulled into Talvrynâs condo complex
KILLIAN: Hey, Iâm out front when youâre ready.
