‘ I’m a lie away from saying what I really think ‘ ( From Rachel )

“I’m a lie away from saying what I really think.”

The words were swimming around Quinn’s hazy brain as she looked across the table at Rachel. The glass of wine beside her hand calling on her to top it up. To do something to distract while she let it sink in. How often did Rachel lie about little things to her? How often did Rachel pick up on her little white lies. She could be referring to both.

     “My lies or yours?”

It was a loaded statement but Quinn bit the bullet, she needed to know what was worse. What ones bothered Rachel the most. They both must have known, felt the tension, the longing glances, the loaded compliments. Nothing about them said platonic anyore. Except their calculated words. Words were the only thing Quinn could control. She could no longer control the love and admiration that was pouring from her actions.

      “Well this is the bottom of the bottle. Time to sink or swim for one of us.”

She punctuated her words by topping up each glass until the wine bottle was empty. If it was going to go wrong, she would just pull out the old Quinn Fabray tactic. Pretend she doesn’t remember and then eventually ghost. Though with Rachel Berry she wasn’t sure that was possible. She would never get her out of her mind, her life.

Maybe it was going to seem out the blue, but the feeling was already in the air. She was just going to be the first to say it.

     “I love you, Rachel Berry.”
