Does your character have an alias (super or otherwise)? If they do, how did it come about? Did they chose it themselves or did another? If they do not, what would they chose if they needed one?
I feel like if Leo were to adopt an alias for himself, it would be for when he treks into gay bars. Because he believes that his life and personal sexual preference is no one’s business but his own, he hasn’t come out as bisexual at his workplace. Nor does he feel the urge to admit it anytime soon. So by using an alias (if the man ever asks for his name to begin with) is the only way he would feel safe keeping his identity safe.
Does your character have a power? Do they wish they did? Do they wish their ability was something else?
Alas, the only super power Leo has is the willpower to #getshitdone. He is an incredibly determined guy and won’t stop for almost anything until the job is complete. But I’d be lying if I said that he’s never wished that he had a super power here and there. He feels that if he had a superpower, he might be able to better protect the citizens of New York and those who he is close to.
How did your character fall into the side that they are on? Have they even chosen a side? If not, why not?
The only side Leo is on is the side of JUSTICE! Or he’s a part of what he feels is the closest organization that represents order and justice. Because he doesn’t exactly enjoy having to deal with the aftermath of a brawl between The Vigilantes and The Reckoning (or the bloody mess that The Vendettas make), he feels like all of the groups are more of a nuisance, if anything. Especially The Reckoning.
How does your character take the supers? Are they a sure sign of God? The next stage of evolution?
I don’t think I’d go as far to assume that Leo considers them to be a sure sign of God. But in all honesty, he doesn’t know very much about them. He just knows that some of their powers can be really crazy and almost creepy. (Santana’s powers being exhibit A. Because having crazy razor sharp fingernails is insane in and of itself. Leo doesn’t know about Cameron having her super ability.) He respects them as human beings. But anything other than that, no.
Does your character believe supers to be ‘above’ those without powers? Either due to their abilities or another reason?
No. Leo very much believes that all men and women were created equal. And that’s one reason why Leo hates that Santana’s gotten mixed up with The Reckoning. Even though he doesn’t know any of the Reckoning members personally (that he’s aware of), they’re basically the “bad guys” in his eyes. And like most bad guys in the media, they feel like they are better than everyone else. They want to prey on and rule over the weak. So knocking down The Reckoning and this “holier than thou” attitude he’s under the assumption they’re like is what’s fueling the fire of his determination. And that’s not even bringing into light what he thinks about the Vendetta gang.
What does your character think about the lengths that the supers are willing to go to get what they want? Do they believe the destruction seen throughout the city during battles to be justified or the destroying of innocent lives?
As a police officer, a keeper of the peace, he’s made an oath to protect and serve. He wants nothing more to see a slice of justice served to these arrogant so called “supers”. He becomes distraught when he catches wind of yet another tragic event that has happened in the city that he now considers his home. Or the shootouts and murders that the get traced back to The Vendettas.
Does your character know of the seedy underbelly of New York (example -- The Vendettas’ work)? Have they ever been involved in it or are they blissfully ignorant?
Does he know of them? Of course! Leo has to get down and dirty and wallow in the seedy underbelly for his job as a police officer. Arresting Drake Dawson wasn’t the first run-in that he had with the powerful Vendetta mob. He’s seen firsthand of the horrendous acts that the gang leader, Al Motta, allows to happen. The only involvement that he’s had was with Drake Dawson and when he gave his testimony at Dawson’s trial. He’s been on crime scenes that were areas chaos of The Reckoning’s doing. He’s chased his fair share of criminals on the streets that he’s been lead to believe have super powers with some of the ways they were able to escape from the chase. (But he’s also managed to catch a few NPC supers as well.)
Has your character ever come into contact with a super? Did they aid or hinder your character?
Yes, more often than he realizes. He never knows what will happen out on the streets of New York during his work shift. He knows about Santana’s ability. That was one of his firsthand experiences with someone with a special ability. Aid from supers has been few – Santana is one of the only people he could say has helped. But the others have been more of a nuisance. Although, there have been a small handful of moments where he’s on the chase with a suspect and a mysterious masked person has helped stop the runaway. But they would quickly leave before Leo even had the chance to thank them. He isn’t sure if they’re a super, but they’re somewhat helpful nonetheless.
How does your character react to the fictional supers they see in the media (such as Superman or the X-Men)? Do they hold the supers they see in their lives up to standards derived from this media? Do they believe such media is helpful or not to the public’s perspective of supers?
Leo wasn’t much of a comic book fan growing up. Sure, he loved to watch X-Men on Saturday mornings while he munched away at a huge bowl of pure-sugar cereal for breakfast and couldn’t get enough the Batman: Arkham City video game. He’s seen most of the superhero movies while they were showing in the cinemas. (And okay, maybe he owns a few Superman logo shirts.) But these actual real life “supers” don’t all live up to his expectations when he compares them to Captain America or Wonder Woman. The Reckoning leaves a wake of chaos in their wake, and the ragtag Vigilantes “try” to help stop the villains, but for the most part, they just get in the way of police investigations.
How does your character react to the ‘heroes’ in New York? Are they truly there for the people or working for their own agenda? Does your character believe them to be helpful or just vicious vigilantes who should allow the police to do their job?
The Vigilantes have been nothing more than a festering splinter in his finger. It’s annoying but he can’t take it out. He’s not sure what their ultimate agenda is. But Leo sure as hell is curious to find out… if he ever comes across one. All he wishes is that they’d stay back and let the police do their job and what they were trained to do. Otherwise, so many NYPD officers would be out of job.
What are your character’s views on the ‘villains’? Are they just the lowest of one group or are they a show of what all supers are destined to become?
Leo’s jaw clinches when he allows his mind wander to The Reckoning. He’s angry that they stole his little sister away from him. He doesn’t know what drove Santana to want to even associate herself with this band of chaos-generating rebels. But deep down, he’s deathly afraid that because of all that’s been going on in the world, that The Reckoning’s power will grow. Which will eventually turn them into even bigger targets for the law enforcement. And the more power that The Reckoning gains will make Santana even more susceptible to dangerous situations. Sure, he knows that his little sister can take care of herself. But as a big brother, he still looks out for his sibling.
How does your character feel about the fact that people have been able to require powers through science and procedures rather than from birth? Is this something that interests them? Do they think that science shouldn’t be messing with such things or that it is just the next obvious step?
In all honesty, Leo knows next to nothing about this new scientific breakthrough. He’s aware that people are undergoing these procedures in hopes that they’ll gain the ability of super speed and say “bye bye” to their allergies, or self-healing to solve that receding hairline problem. But sure, there hasn’t been a day where he hasn’t entertained the thought of gaining superpowers while he was in the shower or holding onto the metal handrail above him as he rides the subway to work.
