It may be of interest to note that there are 300 Gitas, though a few dozens are widely studied and referred. In these three Gitas viz Udhava Gita, Hamsa Gita and Anu Gita are from Bhagavan Krishna. Udhava Gita was spoken to His friend Udhava, before Lord Krishna left the earth.Talks about the twenty four preceptors and other details which we had seen under Narayaneeyam study. Its main theme is detachment, self control, and devotion.
Hamsa gita was spoken by Lord Narayana to Sanakadi munis appearing as a Swan and hence the name. It deals with the Nature of Consciousness, Liberation and echoes Upanishadic teachings promoting inner awareness and freedom from ignorance.
Anu Gita was again spoken to Arjuna when he asks Krishna to repeat the teachings of Bhagavad Gita as he feels that he has forgotten. Krishna refuses to oblige, but gives a shorter, more philosophical teaching, and hence it is called Anu Gita- subsequent Gita.
There is one more Gita, but not very widely known as Vibhishana Gita written by Swamy Tulsidas. When Vibhishana sees the pomp and grandeur with which Ravana enters the warfield, he becomes really anxious and approaches Lord Rama, and asks how Rama, without even a chariot and other warfare is going to face the mighty Ravana. Lord Rama answers that the mighty chariot that is going to take Him forward is Dharma and He has the four
1.Strength Balam.strong mind in a strong body.
2.Vivek -Power of Discrimination between right and wrong.
3.Dama- control of the senses Focussed
4.Parahitha- Consideration of others and well being of others.
The motivating force by which the chariot should move with that dynamism is
1.Not to give up whatever may be the challenges whether with a person, group society.
2 Compassion even to enemical people Not to be revengeful.
Bhagavan gave liberation even to those killed by Him.
3.Vidya -Application of knowledge in different situation
Timely with alertness. To live upto our own knowledge.
4.Dharma-To live up to Dharma uncompromisingly For that one must have Tyaga Readiness to accept to sacrifice
5.Dhana-To give To share needs a lot of courage.
These have to be developed within us and life situations help us to develop it.
So Lord Rama assures Vibhishana that such fortitude to achieve the Dharmic goal is most essential to achieve anything.
To work for that success in spite of all challenges and difficulties is taught in Vibhishan Gita.
