▲|| I’m posting this on the news of Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against Amber Heard. And I’ll be leaving a link from a good source to the story on this post, but it does appear that there is a lengthy list of abuse that occurred at the hands of Amber Heard. This news is a few days old, but as it continues, I felt obligated to post something about it.

Now, yes. I am a Johnny Depp fan. (Obviously.) But I’m not someone who’s life revolves around celebrity or word of mouth, but the allegations against Depp affected me as a Grindelwald writer. I had other writers tell me that it was a bad choice to stick with Depp as a face-claim. I had writers tell me that they wouldn’t write with someone who stuck with Depp as the canon Grindelwald. And that’s fine. It was never about Depp for me, it was about Gellert, who I still find to be a deeply fascinating and seductive character.

If those same writers had taken 10 minutes to google the accusations being levied against Depp, then they would have known that there were plenty of red flags to at least be concerned that something was amiss. I’ve seen abuse be played out, and something unsettled me about the way that information was being passed around and accepted as fact. We, as a community, were all living in the court of public opinion. But Amber Heard has just made it much more difficult for abuse victims to come forward and the Tumblr and HP community should feel some regret and shame at how we treated something as fact without knowing the full details. Johnny Depp is officially innocent.

So I hope everyone who decided to boycott him, talk shit about him as Grindelwald, and try to ruin his career think about how overreactive and wrong they were this whole time.

If we truly care about male victims of abuse, I hope we can boycott and hold accountable Amber Heard with the same vigour we earlier treated Johnny Depp with.

However, I do find myself in the throes of being a workaholic for my thesis exhibition preparation, which opens next month. Theseus scoffed. Of course Grindelwald sees himself as a liberator, he wouldn’t be the first to buy into their own press and deluded themselves into thinking they’re some sort of savior. The dark wizard may talk down about muggles and their flaws, but wizards fall into the same trap. Something Grindelwald will always refuse to see. “You are a man with delusions of grandeur, you talk about the muggles, you admonish them about killing their own kind and waging war yet you do the same when it suits you. You talk about wanting the best for us when you have done more damage than you have helped.” His eyes darken ever so slightly, “You don’t know what is best for me, or anyone else. You never did or you would not have done what you did.”

Theseus moves closer to the barrier between the auror and the prisoner, holding the dark wizard’s gaze, as if challenging Grindelwald, daring him to continue, “And pray tell what are my thoughts, what do you think I want to do? What do you think I want to say? What do you think I should do to someone like you?”

▲ Grindelwald’s head bowed slightly, and his eyes gazed downcast at the fury within the older Scamander’s words. It was less as if the prisoner was taking to heart Theseus’ words, and more in the sense that he was listening and carefully analyzing what the other said. Like that of a politician, still. “Theseus. I realize your anger towards me. I realize that there is a /lot/ of anger directed at me from a great deal of witches and wizards. And these same wizards and witches would say that you are justified in your anger.” He paused for a moment. “You are justified in your anger, Mr. Scamander. I had to put down someone who was very close to you. And for that, you want to kill me. Make an example of me. But you won’t. You’re a better wizard than that.”

“I tried, Theseus, to show her that she could be loved by other wizards. And that you and her might have a happier, more fulfilling life together without the fear of being burned at a stake or tied to stones and thrown in a river.” His fists clenched, and he looked back to the other man, his face very still. “I know you don’t believe me that I am deeply sorry for your loss. Still. You must surely realize that it was Leta who fired that first curse. Even by your standards, the law would’ve justified my self-defense.”

Theseus let the man talk. Gellert Grindelwald always did like the sound of his own voice. He liked to talk about so many things, he liked to throw the little jabs too, Theseus heard it. But he didn’t care. The war was over, this mess was resolved. And Theseus Scamander could care less who Grindelwald thought was more successful as long as he was thrown in this cell. Unlike some, Theseus didn’t care about reputation or glory. He did his job because he believed it was right, people called him a war hero but he never saw it that way anyways.

He looks at the man before him, reduced to this state. Normally Theseus might have found sympathy, but after all that’s happened, sympathy for Gellert Grindelwald is hard to find. The destruction left in the man’s wake, somethings even Theseus could not forgive.

“Talk is just that…talk…you shouldn’t put so much on that…” His voice even, trying to appear unaffected, even though deep down there is an anger that he is forever holding at bay. “Why would I talk about her with you? Why would I talk about anyone else with you? I’m just here to look at how far you’ve fallen. I’m just here to remind myself this is what deserves to happen to people like you.”

▲ “People like me?” The dark wizard muttered, the weight of his body shifting to one leg. “You mean, liberators? Revolutionaries? Ideologues? Yes. This is what happens to us; from time to time. We are imprisoned. Martyred. Our freedoms stripped from us. Yes. I knew the risk, Mr. Scamander.” A small smirk was shot the other’s way. “But did not everything that I foretold come to pass? That I revealed all those years ago at the Mausoleum Lestrange? The war still happened. The non-magic still killed millions of their own kind. For what? To prove that one race of no-maj was any better than another?” Grindelwald sighed, turn to face the older Scamander head on, his dichromatic hues aiming for some kind of sympathy. “I... Always ever wanted what was best for you. What was best for us as brethren. We deserved better. We still do.”

Gellert shook his head, “That matters little, to you, I’d suppose. But don’t pretend that you’re just here to gloat, Theseus. Please. It’s beneath you. They take away the wand, they enrapture with protection charms...” His shackled hands reached upwards, his fingers tapping at his temples. His voice was just above a whisper. “But even you know they can’t take the magic out of a wizard. It’s all up here. I can hear those thoughts rattling around inside your head.”

average amount of sleep: Anywhere from 4 to 13 hours per night. The more sleep, the better, usually.

what i’m wearing: Black hoodie, with jeans and blue-jean Converse sneakers.

dream job:  Associate Professor of Art, with a concentration in Painting of Drawing; which I technically am currently working in. But tenure would be nice.

dream trip: ‘I hate Paris.’ But in all sincerity, I would absolutely adore making my way to Paris. There are just too many museums and too much art history to pass up in that city.

favorite food: Cheeseburgers. Especially with bacon and, just recently, I’ve learned of such a creation as ‘tomato jam’ that is so enjoyable on my burgers.

play any instruments: I grew up in a musical household and play a lot of percussion and drum set. I recently was working in jazz drumming this semester.

eye color:  Hazel green.

hair color: Dark brown. Almost black.

languages you speak: English. Some Spanish. Some French.

▲|| Greetings. I hope all of you are taking good care of yourselves as the holidays rapidly approach us; as semesters wind down and exams are stressed over.

I have been meaning to compile this post for some time now, it seems to be the best way to introduce myself to all of you. (Some I have already spoken with briefly.) I’d suppose that this is my cover letter to attempt to befriend each of you. I’ve had this blog since the first Fantastic Beasts film, and with the release of COG, I would be very eager to work this power orator’s gifts amongst each of you. I have followed many of you not only because you are in the fandom, but because you are a strong writer that carries their work proudly.
