dark green hues only but briefly locked gaze with her before she averted her attention elsewhere. slumping her shoulders, she slightly wriggled her nose and ran her fingers through her hair. a smirk itched to crawl its way onto her face and showcase itself, but she fought that urge. this was a serious moment. the other was serious, and no way was poppy going to upset her at this very moment.

if she wasn’t upset already.

“…what?”

arms crossed, she leaned against the wall beside her, shaking the excess strands of hair from her vision. the female didn’t think it was all that big of a problem. whatever the problem was. she’d simply stepped out for a while. felt she needed some fresh air. felt she needed a break. maybe she’d been out for too long, and maybe she’d had a tad bit too much to drink but so what? she was still here. alive and breathing and in good shape. well somewhat.

though she began to question herself. she began questioning her actions and with this came guilt, followed by regret. all swirling and bubbling at the pit of her stomach. the other was merely concerned for her safety and here she was, detesting any kind of advice, swearing up and down that she didn’t have a problem and that she didn’t need help but surely that was a lie. cause she needed. she needed it badly.

but of course she wasn’t going to admit it. at least not now.

now the morning had been young, and he had once again been wandering. lost upon such fleeting thoughts, in the wake of the sun’s slumber. it was in solitude that he spoke of whatever ailed him, had pressed his thumb too hard against the bones of his fingers. and with a deep press, felt the crack of bone, and the wakefulness of soft skin melt into his awareness. then, perhaps by chance, he had stumbled across her. a woman he gazed at quite often whenever he would get the chance, not enraptured by her flowing beauty but rather the stiffness of it. whenever he saw her she would never look pleased, and neither would he, happiness unfound in scarred fists. now she had merely been standing there, staring at the traffic light, as though something were plaguing her mind for she did not move– even when the light indicated that she could.

“you continue staring at that light and it might burn your eyeballs, y’know.” he says this softly, standing close to her but far enough for comfort. “trying to find something in ‘em? ‘cos God knows there really ain’t shit there. not for anybody, anyways.”

tired. the woman was tired.

as always.

she never got enough sleep. energy was always on the low. eyes always dull and droopy and in extreme cases, bloodshot.

she yawned some. the kind of yawn that came slow and then hit you just towards the end. the kind of yawn that made you toss your arms back to stretch your limbs. one that made you arch your back. one that shooed away all the tiredness and stiffness of her body. a stress relieving stretch, and yet, she was still exhausted.

her inability to just lie down and rest never really got worse, but it never got better, either. she was constantly in a state of numbness, constantly in and out of her consciousness and yet, still wary. wary of her state of mind. wary of her surroundings. wary enough to realize she’d been in the same spot for almost fifteen minutes, eyes gazing into the traffic light, too lazy to even take one step foreward.

and that there’d been a presence standing beside her for a while, watching as she gazed into the nothingness that was the open air. poppy hadn’t even looked the strangers way. she was too dazed to even move an inch, though she huffed softly, a tired smile making its way onto her lips.

“…. maybe? who knows.“

she shrugged nonchalantly.

a soft gasp escaped her lips as she jumped back. palm placed on her chest and slightly wide eyed did she turn to face the other who stood in the door frame, confusion visible on his facial features. the female made a face as her arm slacked to her side. she grunted, turning her back to him to pick up a rag that sat on the table beside her, wiping at her grease caked fingers, though it made no difference since the rag was greasy and dirty itself.

“nobody.”

a lie. a straight fib. poppy was most definitely speaking to herself. literally. the tiny system that was built into her brain was giving her instructions on her work. helping her tweak whatever needed to be tweaked and fixing whatever needed to be fixed. she was practically a walking a computer. doing everything in her head.

all in her head.

though at was difficult at times. having two voices toppling each other in the same space, and that particular moment only showcased her struggle. the woman couldn’t concentrate feeling like she was talking over herself, so she took to work vocally like she always did when push came to shove but of course she couldn’t tell him that.

“what?”

bringing a hand to her waist, she tossed the rag over her shoulder, harboring support from the nearby table as she balanced herself. poppy cocked her head to the side as she raised a curious brow.

“did i distract you or something?”
