âi wish. but odetteâs insisting we go, so. weâre going!â rhiannon paused. âitâs kind of the right thing to do though. just to pay our respects along with the student body? and for his poor parents, i guess. they did invite us. i want to bail though, itâs just gonna be a bummer.â
âthe queen commands and the people obeyâ kacie sighed returning to tapping her unlit cigarette off her knee. âyeah, i guess? people would notice if you didnât go but i might be able to get away with itâ she said biting her lip. how could she be so torn up over something so stupid?

âGet this, when you break a bone, the hair under your cast grows crazy thick and you end up with an arm that looks like it belongs to a Yeti. Anyway, still pretty stoked to finally get the damn thing off me. My arms been itching like crazy lately. I think I spent an hour scratching it after I got home. Now I can go back to typing with both hands.â
âyeah but your my yetiâ kacie teased popping up on tiptoes to plant a kiss on his cheek, glad to see henry back to (at least somewhat) normal. âand thatâs different than normal?â she continued on in a similar vein, staying lighthearted in an attempt to keep her thoughts the same.Â

âWhat the fuck do you want?â Avery asked bitterly. He was asked to prepare a speech at the funeral service but he didnât even know how to prepare a fucking speech for someone he barely knew. There were crumpled up balls of paper around him everywhere as he had been sitting in the seat in the cafe for over an hour now trying to think of what to write but nothing was working. âIâm a little busy here, canât you see?âÂ
âwhatâs with the fucking language?â she snapped back, sliding into the seat opposite. âdonât tell me your fawning over riley now too? âoh he was a good boy, gone too soonâ pass the sick bag. we both know thatâs a load of shitâ she hadnât meant to be so rude to avery but she was at the end of her tether, sick of west valleyâs new found affection towards the dead riley.Â

âHonestly, thatâs who I feel bad for,â Jacky shrugged, understanding that not everyone liked Riley. Hell, she wasnât his biggest fan either. âI had to get a nose job over break, because I broke my nose. I asked the doctor to make it as close to my original nose a possible but you never know.â
but to have raised a son like that? âthey must be absolutely destroyedâ she said strangely solemn. she found herself wondering what her own mothers reaction wouldâve been like, sheâd probably be glad that the problem child was gone. âhowâd you manage that?â she asked âanyway it looks lovely, maybe even better? certainly a bit slimmerâ she teased

âItâs justâŠsad,â Jacky shrugged, wiping a single (crocodile) tear that escaped her eye. âI mean, the poor guy. No one deservesâŠthat.â
Jacky paused, the glassy look in her eyes instantly disappearing. âIs my nose noticeably different?â
âonly really for his parents though, i know itâs harsh but i wonât miss seeing him on campusâ she said blowing hair out of her face. shame riley and jacky hadnât gotten together to the best of her knowledge, they mightâve suited each other. âeh not really, why?â

Lyanna smiled and immediately she noticed to herself it was a big, genuine smile. She was happy, and Kacie was making her feel good about herself. She could have been the girl she was, the girl who would have made it a big deal that they bumped into each other, or she could have been the girl to have left a drunken one by herself or even go as far as to mock her, but she didnât. She wasnât that girl, she wanted to do her best to help. âThank you.â Lyanna added shaking her head, her red curls bounced softly. âI think thereâs too many mean girls out there, you know? When adding fuel to a fire I like to know I can control it, confrontation with someone I donât know? Iâm not that brave.â Her tone was light, joking. She laughed.
âyeah thereâs far too many of that sort o campusâ she said tucking stray hairs back behind her ear. âyou in a habit of setting fires?â she asked with a curious tilt of the head âiâll have to wark jackson about that, lyâ she teased her new found friend. âwell if i ever need back up in an argumentâ unlikely âi know iâll want you on my sideâ

âIâm not sure if Iâd call him a creep, but then again I didnât know him very well. He wasnât always nice to me.â Joey tried to think of one good thing that Riley ever did or said to him but nothing was coming to mind. âI hope he wasnât too creepy with you. Iâm sorry if he ever was. Sometimes people can be awful.â
âwell he was a creep to meâ she insisted. âbut iâm sorry about how he was with youâ she wasnât usually the person to block another but riley was a rare soul that had driven her too it. heâd been rough with her (and not in the good way) and clingy to the point where it felt like he thought he deserved her. âit was nothing too bad,â she said valley âhe was just a bit... handsy?â

rhiannon listened to what kacie was saying, nodding appreciatively. âthatâs true, itâs better to not be fake about it! but it is, you know, really tragic. i hope they get to the bottom of it all. i canât believe something like that happened, you know, here. try not to walk home alone okay?â
âso is that a plan then? no fake-ness, we just stay home?â she asked just to be sure. even if the rest of zta ended up going sheâd wouldnât, she wasnât fake like the rest of her family. âsame here, i feel for his parents most of all. iâll try, but house isnât that far from the art building so it should be fineâ

âYouâre a lot nicer than I thought.â Lyanna looked up at the fellow redhead, a small smile on her lips. She passed her a drink before shrugging her shoulders and glancing around the party. âWhat did you think I was going to be like?â She was curious, first impressions were an interesting thing.
@dvntfvgct
âi donât know, i just thought youâd be the kind of girl thatâd get pissy at me for bumping into you at a partyâ she smiled a laugh playing on her lips ânot the kind thatâd let me crash in your room and not get pissy when iâm sick every whereâ she added. truthfully there was another reason jackson was basically her brother, and sure the over protective thing was more of a thing the brother did. but she was all for breaking down those stereotypes... with a chainsaw preferably, chainsaws are cool.

âyeah, i mean, i wasnât exactly friends with him either, but damnâŠi guess he deserves some kind of respect, you know? i just donât want to stand there and feel fake the entire time. i was never exactly nice to him,â she sighed, contemplating it all. sure, some crazy things happened in santa clara, but this took the cake. it was so unexpected.Â
âhrmâ she hummed, scrunching up her nose, how much respect did someone like that really deserve. âthen maybe not goings the most respectful thing? rhi donât say that, iâm sure you werenâtâ she smiled at her roommate, she couldnât believe that about rhi, to kacie she had the patience of a saint. hell anyone would need to to share a room with her.

âare you going? to the, you know,â her eyes fell on the invitation. the grey family had left one in everyoneâs school mailbox, extending an open invite to all of rileyâs classmates to attend the funeral service. âi mean, i didnât know him super well butâŠi donât know. itâs fucked up.â
âi donât know rhi, i really donâtâ she sighed bouncing her unlit cigarette of her knee. she wanted to smoke, to clear her head and cloud the air, but for rhiannon's sake she didnât. âyou know i thought he was a creep after what happened, itâd just seem disingenuous to go. but if we donât what would people say?â

âWow, I canât believe Riley is gone,â Joey furrowed his brows as he spoke, struggling to wrap his mind around the loss. He felt sympathetic towards the studentâs family and friends. It was just difficult for him to muster up any sadness for himself because while Riley most definitely didnât deserve to be killed, he hadnât exactly been nice to Joey. He couldnât blame Riley for all of his insecurities, but he could trace many of them back to Riley and though it made him feel selfish to think of himself when it wasnât about him, hearing his name brought up a lot of memories that he preferred to suppress.
âit is kinda sad nâall but you cant deny heâs was a bit of a creepâ she frowned not looking at the boy. riley was that clingy brat from freshman year right? he must have been. the one that didnât get that the clue to a one night stand is kinda in the name. that must have been him. âhe wasnât creepy enough to deserve that thoughâ she added.
