I'm just trying to get by. Spark my lazy, idle mind. Staring at the walls again. C H O P P E D in half by ceiling fans. There's no letters in the mail and all the bread is going stale. What's this trouble all about? Guess I'll have to wait it out.

“Yeah, I don’t think so.” Esme began to collect the papers on her desk and neatly put them in her folder which went into her backpack. “I may be good at math, but I’d rather spend my time soaking my sexy naked body in hot water every day after school.” She grinned, walking up to his desk and sitting on it slightly. “Unless you want to do mathletes in the tub with me.”

He clears his throat quite loudly in response to Esme’s comment, watching the remainder of his students exit the classroom. Finally, he turns his attention back to her. “As much as I would... LOVE to do that... I’m afraid, not.” Jerrett says, stepping closer and placing his palms on either side of her, onto the desk where she’s seated casually. “At least think about it, okay? I-I know-- it’s not as glamorous as your other extracurricular activities, but-- just think about it.”

“Bored. Lonely? No. Desperate? Definitely not. Mostly bored.” Esme contemplated on the correct answer, but only to lean in closer. “Or maybe not just bored, but maybe I have my own wants and needs too. “I don’t know how you feel.. you have to show me.”

“I did show you-- and you just-- pushed me away. Do you expect me to chase you, then? Is that it?” He murmurs.

“Really? Or you’re just saying that because you’re short on members and want me to join?” She asked with a faint chuckle “May I at least think about it?”

“Well-- if we’re being honest, here-- yes. I’m short on team members. That doesn’t mean that you have to join. I can’t force you-- but I certainly think that you’d be a great influence on the members that we do have, already.” A pause. “Of course. Think it over by next week, though. Orientation is coming up quickly.”

Truthfully, Hank was only doing this so that his parents and the staff members could see that he was doing something with himself other than causing havoc. Even if he wasn’t going to take this fucking thing seriously, he could at least pretend, right? “Jackets or I’ll leave,” Hank said and nodded. “When’s this first meeting? Who all is even in this geek squad?”

“Okay-- I’ll consider having mathlete jackets made.” A beat. “Well, for now, it’s mainly freshman. A few sophomores, as well. You could be a great influence on them,” He nods, shifting to seat himself behind his desk. “and please refrain from calling it a geek squad.” He sighs softly. “Next Monday, I’ll be holding orientation. I trust that you’ll be there.”

“You know what,” Hank said and snapped his fingers. “Count me in, but only if we can get cool ass jackets, this’ll look good on my end when I run for class president or whatever.” 

Well, this was easier than he’d expected it would be. “Jackets...?” He murmurs. “Uh, I’ll keep that in mind, I suppose.”

“Oh. I knew that,” he said and scratched under his chin. “Do I gotta give you an answer about this right now? Wait, are you just using me to get more people in this club? Because I feel like if that’s the case I should be paid for my hard work and dedication.”

“Sure, you did.” He says with a tinge of cynicism. “W-What? No. Of course not.” Of course, he is-- but Hank doesn’t need to know this for certain.

“Me?” She walked towards the professor “I don’t think is a good idea, I’m not the best at math, I’m sure there are many that would be much better for the position than me.”

“That’s the point. I think it’d do you some good-- the practice would certainly help improve your grade, and in all honesty, I think you’re better at mathematics than you let on. Besides, the team is short on members, and I think you'd be a great fit.”

“It means...You’ve got nerve.” He clarifies, adjusting his glasses and clearing his throat.

“You want me on board with your geek squad?” Hank asked and crossed his lanky arms over his chest as he gave Jerrett a look that practically read ‘what the fuck’ because he was finding it hard to believe he’d actually want someone like Hank on the team. “Why?”

“I’ll be honest-- you’ve never had the highest grades in my classes, but your energy is superb. I like that. You’ve got moxy, kid.”

Hank was trying to get out of the classroom before he got caught, he’d slept most of the class period since math wasn’t exactly his favorite subject - but he wasn’t awful at it. Ya know, if he was doing fifth grade mathematics. Just as he was about to exit he heard Jerrett telling him to stop and hearing mathletes exiting his mouth, Hank dropped his jaw. “I can’t join mathletes, it’s social suicide!”

“Look, I know it’s not... the most... GLAMOROUS club at the institute, but it’d be great to have you on board. Besides, I really think that you’d benefit from the extra practice.”

“Alright-- that’ll be it, for today. I want those assignments back first thing tomorrow morning. No SLACKING.” The professor says over the class bell as he cleans the chalkboard. He turns on his heels to catch a glimpse of a particular student he wishes to speak with. “Wait-- don’t even think about walking out of here, until I’ve talked to you about joining the mathletes.” He points to them nonchalantly, rounding his desk.

“I’m giving you the chance to tell me what you want, now.”

“You already know how I feel, Esmerald-- but how I feel has never mattered to you. So why are you doing this now? Are you bored? Lonely? Desperate?” He scoffs. “Whatever the reason, I can’t take it-- you’re just-- too finicky. There's no point in stringing me along, Esme. I'm smarter than that.”

Penelope gets a cup of coffee, continuing to trail after Jerrett. It was always so fun to toy with people, wasn’t it? Get them paranoid. “Well, that’s really good to hear! I mean, I’m doing really really well!” Penelope replied perkily, as she sat down along with Jerrett. Perhaps they al thought she was a bitch, but that was part of the fun, wasn’t it? “The school year’s almost starting, so I just know there’s gonna be this influx of new cheerleaders!”

“O-Oh... Yeah, I guess so.” He murmurs. “I don’t know much about cheer, so... You’ll have to forgive me.”

“Oh.” Her lips pursed into a letter ‘O’. “I guess there’s just one thing I don’t understand then.” Esme stands up from the chair to leaned over ontop of the desk, arching her back slightly.

Taking her fingers, she runs them through her hair, twirling a thick strands around her index finger. “Me + You = what? You can solve anything, right? So what is this then?” She licks her lips wet, biting a corner slightly.

He leans back in his desk chair, clearing his throat. “I-- I don’t know. You’re my student. That much I do know.” A beat. “Though, if you mean in any other sense, I think that justifying by what you said to me the last time that we spoke, we’re nothing outside of student and professor.”
