Holden Barrett hadn’t always been the kind of person he is today. Sure he’d always been crude, he’d always been a smart ass, but he never once in his life thought he’d be a recovering addict. He grew up in an unpleasant household, his dad was a real estate agent, his mom the trophy wife that sat at home and tried to please her husband but nothing ever seemed to be enough for him. Holden had two siblings, so he didn’t have to endure all of this alone. Devin, his younger brother and Penelope his older sister. Holden’s dad wasn’t the most pleasant man to be around, he suffered from bipolar disorder and any little thing could make him tick, so his entire childhood consisted of walking on eggshells just to please the man and to keep him happy. What kind of childhood was that? As they all grew older, Penelope went on her way to college and never looked back, not that Holden could really blame her but it put a lot of responsibility on him.

“it’s rose records!” willa exclaims with a laugh. she shouldn’t laugh at a joke so disgusting, but she does anyway. “oh my god,” she grins. “did you put a red sock inside with all the white clothes?” the woman asks as she goes through the tom petty catalogue in her mind. “i have something perfect for you, and your…. roommate i assume?” she walks over to the classic rock aisle and pulls out an album. “tom petty and the heartbreakers. greatest hits. it’s solid gold. i think they’ll enjoy it. it has mary jane’s last dance in there. my personal favorite.”

“honestly, i can’t tell you what the hell i put in the wash to make it turn pink!” holden said and laughed softly. “i think i put a very light pink shirt in with some of his whites, but like, i didn’t think it was going to cause such a huge effect. so here we are.” he said and sighed, because really, it could have been anything. holden never emptied his pockets, he didn’t pay attention to what he put in the washer and what he mixed it with. so really, the possibilities of this mishap were endless. “mary jane’s last dance? what the fuck kind of shit is this?” holden asked, because tom petty certainly wasn’t his cup of tea, but johan, johan seemed to be obsessed with the guy.

johan hadn’t picked up on the memo that it was leg day, otherwise he would have definitely stayed at home and on the sofa in the warm – he’d never been all that into fitness, whilst he loved swimming and surfing, that was about it for his exercise and he’d never be caught in a gym. walking seemed like it could be easy enough though, at least so johan thought until they’d reached the hiking trail and he realised how out of his depth he was. johan wasn’t going to say anything though, he didn’t want to give holden the satisfaction, especially after he’d ignored his advice earlier that day. “so what, it’s like the size of a wolf, looks like a wolf, but is friendly like a dog?” he asked with a raised brow, not once lifting his gaze up from the floor as he tried to watch his step, and in turn it resulted in numerous branches twanging him in the face. “ow- that would be cool though. the wolf dog, i mean. not an actual wolf because you would definitely get fucking mauled.”

“yeah, with some like, characteristics of the wolf. like howling, its teeth, its face, snout, all that. and i’m like, fifty percent sure that you gotta feed it a wolf diet. it’s basically a domesticated wolf, i think. which is insane but i fucking want one.” holden said before looking back to see johan getting whacked with the fucking tree branch which caused him to laugh at the idiot. he’d told johan this morning that he was going out for a long hike, up and down hills because he had to work on his legs. but johan just insisted that he tag along because he could walk, it wasn’t rocket science. so holden let him and now he was wondering if johan regretted it yet or not. “i always thought it would be kind of sick to have a wolf, or like, a polar bear. like, imagine coming home and you got this domesticated massive bear just waiting to greet you with a bear hug.”

holden was never a guy to say no to a hook up, after all, he loved getting off - it got his mind off of a ton of things, and who didn’t like sex, right? but it was so weird that this was going to happen with michael of all people. but holden wasn’t going to think too much into it, he needed some distracting and michael seemed to be the best candidate for that at the moment. so why not indulge. as the two of them made their way out the back and over to the jeep holden found himself grinning against michael’s mouth as their lips met only to clash together as michael pressed into him. holden took his own hands and rested one one michael’s backside and the other snaked up to the side of the man’s neck to lightly squeeze as his tongue clashed against michael’s.

“christ, it’s really coming down out there. i think i’m gonna be stuck here a while,” archie commented, closing the blind before he slowly sat himself down onto the tattooed man’s couch. “makes a change to be somewhere else though. i’ve just been stuck in my bedroom with either korina or one of the other guy’s running up to check on me and they won’t let me do anything.” the man grumbled, even though he knew he was supposed to be resting. but he’d already been out for a walk this morning, and it was only when holden made a comment on his instagram story did he see if the man wanted to hang out with him. so, he’d ended up at holden’s where they’d grabbed a bite to eat before retreating to the sofa, neither of them aware of the blizzard outside until archie had just taken a look. but, this was exactly what archie needed to relax for once. except, the man raised a brow at the flickering of the ceiling light, before hearing a strange whirring noise. “holden, the fuck was that?”

“oh god, stuck with you? i couldn’t think of anything worse, honestly.” holden said as he kept his eyes fixated on the tattooing show that was on the television. holden was no stranger to san amore’s winter and what it could bring, which was why he was so unfazed by the snow that was falling down. he hadn’t realized just how bad it had been though, because he figured archie in true form was just exaggerating about the weather so he wasn’t paying much mind to it; instead putting all of his focus on the deep dish pizza he’d ordered and was devouring and his tv. “oh yeah, don’t expect me to be babying your ass here. clearly if you can go on a run and get your nipples all hard as diamonds, you’re doin’ just fine.” holden said in a matter of fact tone. “that’s insane though that of all places in this town, they go for the dead. that’s kinda sick, man. were they after the bodies or what? oh my god, maybe they were trying to do like, real sex dolls, but like... real sex dolls.” holden replied and shuddered some. he wasn’t paying much mind until the light flickered and holden shrugged. “might be a short or somethin’.” he said and then, black. “well. maybe not a short.” he replied and sat his plate of pizza on the coffee table and then got up to look out the window. “i don’t want to alarm you, but it seems as if we’ve got an outage, buddy.”

when holden wasn’t working, he was usually at the gym working out - but even when he was working, he made time for the gym let’s be real. but today he decided he was going to try something a little different. for him, it was leg day so why not go on a nice hike and get some nice views in in the midst of it. the red river trail was one of holden’s favorite spots to go, it was hard not to enjoy nature at its best. and sure it was a bit cold, but, holden didn’t mind it. he had the right gear to bundle up with. “so, i was looking on tik tok and for some reason, this guy and his fucking wolf dog show up on my feed. you heard me right, i’m talking balto wolf dog. and it got me thinking, how fucking bad ass would it be to actually have a domesticated fucking wolf in your house? like some game of thrones shit!”

“hey, hey, hey!” willa greets the person who has just walked into rose records. she’s been working here for a year, and she likes the stability. she especially loves being surrounded by great music and getting to pick the playlists that everyone will listen to throughout the day. the other looks either excited or confused, she can’t really tell. “are you looking for something specific?” willa asks. “or are you lost and thought this was a sex shop? it happens,” she jokes with a laugh.
