Rex took a long sip of his drink to begin with. He held the alcohol in his mouth a moment, just to taste it. It was all fine though. So, he swallowed and took another sip. One drink. He was allowed one drink. âA month?â Rex repeated with a raised eyebrow, tilting his head. âOkay, thatâs fair. I can admire that,â His words were sincere. When it came to his turn, he laughed. In fact he couldnât answer until a couple of laughs and a sip of his drink. âWell my last relationship was actually an engagement. It ended in - November. Ultimately there were just a lot of little things that werenât going to work for her. On top of that, she wasnât really willing to deal with the way that I live and such. It was all quite sad, because she was my best friend but,â Rex shrugged. âObviously things werenât destined.â As he ran a hand through his hair, Rex took a deep breathe. Things needed to move on. âSo if youâre so interested in business, whatâs brought you to dating again now?â
âOh.â Had Persephone known - although, given how familiar his story seems, maybe she did - that Rexâs last relationship ended in a failed engagement she never would have asked. She takes a long sip of her drink, hoping that the sip disguises the fact that she doesnât really know what to say. âIâm sorry you had to go through that,â she finally responds. Of course, despite how genuine the words are, they donât feel like enough. No matter. The conversation quickly changes subject. Thank the gods. âIf Iâm being honest, I wasnât really. Not until my friend insisted on setting us up at any rate. But itâs time to; My ex moved on, so I really ought to, you know?â She says with a shrug. âAnd I guess it would be nice to have someone again.â

Kida nodded, listening intently as the woman spoke. âThatâs wonderful,â A grin grew across her face. âThere is nothing like the bond between a mother and her daughter,â Her voice was gentle. Obviously Kida had a very different mother-daughter experience to most. But, she could still understand. She felt like sheâd have that sort of relationship with her mother, had she been alive for longer. âThatâs really amazing. What a lovely story. Iâm really glad for you that it all worked out too â obviously it did.â Kida rotated slowly as her eyes took in the store.
For a moment, Persephoneâs eyes light up, glad to find another person in the city who understands her first language - or at least someone she doesnât already know. They exist, of course, but itâs an extra bright spot in her day when she doesnât have to seek them out. âThere really isnât.â She agrees with a soft smile and gentle voice.  âIt definitely took a lot of hard work to get to this point, but itâs so incredibly worth it.â Her own eyes bounce around the store, to take in just how far all of the work sheâs put into her company has gone. âIs there anything in particular youâd like to look at?âÂ

Demi couldnât argue with that. Then again she only really ever argued with Persephone about one thing in her life. âMe too,â she said with a small sigh. âBut hopefully there is better. We are in New York City after all. The vegan places only seem to rack up as the years pass.â
âBetter?â She asks, gasping dramatically.  âYouâre not seriously suggesting thereâs a better cafe than that one.â Itâs a joke, of course. If her overly dramatic response didnât make that clear, her laughter clearly does. Persephone is well aware that there are plenty of places in the city that are just as good, if not better than that cafe. What sheâs not so sure of is that sheâll ever love another one as much. âAnd thank the Gods for that. I donât know what I would do if they didnât. Starve, probably.â
eldesttavoularisâ:
âI trust your eye. You do see the beauty in everything. A gift and a curse, hmm?â Her gaze lingered a second before moving on. âWe should check it out, get it over with, and then go to that one vegan cafe near our current apartment.â
âNot everything,â Persephone protests, lightly, still smiling. âOnly things where thereâs beauty to be found.â Granted, for her, that is most things. âIâm going to miss having that cafe so close to us,â she says with a wistful sort of sigh, all the while putting the address for the third apartment in a maps app. âWeâre going to have to be on the lookout for something just as good nearby wherever we live next.âÂ

Persephone : I AM EVIL
Persephone : I AM THE SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT
Persephone : FEAR ME

beaches - what is your ideal sunny day like?
âHonestly, I think it would just be spent getting some sun, enjoying the warmth with Demeter. Maybe getting some new plants for the apartment. Simple and relaxing.âÂ
Just let me hate you!

Names stuck with Rex. He used to forget them easily. But after so long of working in the industry he did, heâd quickly learned that remembering names were important. Plus, Persephone was barely a name you forgot easily. âThatâs me,â He chuckled. Rex sat back in his chair, elbow relaxing over the back as he listened to the brunette explained her name. âBringer of death leaves more of an impact than female thresher of grain, I feel,â Rex laughed.
He tilted his head. âMineâs quite simple really. Rex comes from the Latin word for king. I quite like it. Itâs simple, powerful,â Rex said with a smile. While he was mid-muse, a waitress walked over with their drinks. âThank you.â He beamed up at her. Once the drinks were set on the table, Rex slid Persephoneâs over to here. âThere you go.â There was a charming grin on his face as he spoke. âSo â Dare I ask the question, how long have you been single? Why do you think youâre single?â
âBringer of death is definitely more memorable,â she agrees, laughing along with him. Itâs more fearsome too - something the part of her that wants to feel powerful appreciates. Persephone leans into the conversation ever so slightly as he explains the origins of his name, her own head tilting to one side a little. âKing,â she repeats. âI like that too.â Simple, powerful, strong. Itâs a good meaning.Â
Persephone smile as their drinks come, thanking Rex as he slides hers over to her before taking a short sip. She finds herself glad she did as he asks his next question. Itâs certainly a big question to ask, especially as theyâve only just met. But she doesnât mind that really. âI guess Iâve been single for about a month now.â Has it really only been a month? It feels like itâs been so much longer. âI canât really say why I am, though.â In her own mind at least, sheâs a catch. âI have been focused more on my business than dating lately, though, which Iâm sure doesnât help,â Perse explains before taking another quick drink. âAnd you? How is it that someone as charming as you is single?âÂ
kidagakashhâ:
Kida payed closed attention to the woman. âThe owner?â She nodded slowly. âThatâs very impressive. Itâs nice to see a woman doing her thing,â After her sentence finished, she turned to a slight angle to look across the racks. âHow did this all begin then? Whatâs the story?â
âThe owner,â Persephone repeats, beaming. Her greatest source of pride comes from running her own business. âItâs always a great thing to see,â she agrees. Seeing women find their own way in this world is always a joy - Especially if it allows them their independence. âWell, it really all started when I was a little girl. I was always fascinated by the way the plants my ΌηÏÎÏα kept would stain the skin. And it grew from there.â Thereâs more to the story, of course. But Perse isnât interested in sharing the darker aspects of her companyâs origins. Especially with someone she just met.Â
kidagakashhâ:
With the weather at a far more acceptable point now, Kida had started to venture out into the city again. Coming from such a warm climate had made the last couple of weeks practically unbearable. Sheâd never appreciated thick fur coats more. The little cosmetics store had caught her eye a couple of times before. Sheâd just never had the opportunity to go in - Either busy, or about to be busy. So, she figured thereâs no time better than the present. Kida walked in with a gentle smile on her face, eyes immediately scanning the store. âHello,â She beamed when she was greeted. âSorry, Iâve walked past a couple of times before but never had the chance to come in until now.â || @ofpomegrantes
Persephoneâs glad to see the weather start to perk up too. As much as she loves the winter, sheâs ready for spring, when the world feels more alive and she feels she truly shines. Besides, better weather means more customers walking into her shop, which is always a plus. She smiles when she hears the door open, looking up from the display sheâs trying to perfect to find a potential new patron. Itâs always a pleasure to see new faces.  âHello,â she greets, an extra friendliness to her voice.âWell, welcome to Pomegranate Seed Cosmetics. Iâm glad you finally had a chance to come by.â She answers, moving away from her display to face the woman. âIâm Persephone, the owner. If you have any questions or need any help, let me know.âÂ

He nodded, knowing she was right but also not being able to audibly state why heâd thought it would be. Maybe he just watched other people handle things this way and it seemed to help them. â How do you make it go away? â Si asked quietly, almost ashamed he had to ask at all. â For once⊠Just once⊠Iâd like to not be the doormat brother⊠Iâd like to just be family⊠âÂ
âHonestly?â she asks, as if his answer to that will really make a difference. Whether he wants the truth or not, Persephoneâs gong to give it. Or, at least her version of it. She sees no reason to lie to him. âYou donât.â Itâs a shit answer, she knows, and she wishes she could give him a better one. She wishes she could tell him what he wants to hear. âYou just have to let it hurt until it doesnât anymore. And one day it wonât.â Persephone finds herself wishing she could tell him when that day would come. He deserves so much better than that. âSi, if anyone is treating you like a doormat, they arenât worth your attention.âÂ
