“I don’t think being drunk should be an EXCUSE for being an asshole and treating people badly, though, you know?? There are still things you can control if you try. I think I’m more of the... sits in the corner quietly and tries his hardest not to fall asleep kind of drunk.”
“i swear i’m fine, i’ve had worse days.”
“... good. that’s uh, good to hear. i’m roman, by the way.”
The more they spent time together again, the more she actually wanted to continue this, but as more than friends. Although, in her perspective, she knew it wasn’t likely. It still felt too soon to tell and there wasn’t any way she would confess her emotions to him already. “I don’t doubt that. You were always quite a handful,” she teased, giving him more of an innocent smile. Blair was quite glad the conversation was still on-going rather than falling to silence. One thing she didn’t want to ever happen between them was for it to be awkward. Noticing from the corner of her eye, he was by her side and genuinely smiled at that. “How do you feel about Italian? Or Japanese? I’m just in the mood for noodles and pasta.” A second later, she pursed her lips and turned her head to him. “Unless there’s something else you want, then I can be down for that too."
“-- Oh, I was, huh?? You ever consider that that’s quite a rude thing to say?? I’m offended. You never mentioned it before, anyway.” Despite his almost permanently somewhat sour mood, being in her presence alone had turned it around completely; he could already feel ounces of energy that he’d been seriously lacking returning. “Maybe you should’a put me in my place. You know I’m not very good at that sorta thing.” Roman hummed in thought, considering both options with a light smile. “Honestly, anything other than pizza sounds AMAZING right now.” He shook his head, hands stuffed once more into the pockets of his jeans. “Nah, I’m comin’ up blank anyway. Japanese or Italian sounds great.”
“i’m guessing today was an off day then?” the corners of her mouth spread slightly, allowing for a soft grin to creep its way upon her lips.
“one of WAY too many for me to be okay with.” regardless, his smile remained across his features.
Bad day? I know all the words to that Daniel Powter song, I can sing it if you need a pick me up.
“Mmh, somethin’ like that... But I’ll, uh, pass on the Daniel Powter tune. Though I’m sure you’re a wonderful singer.”
‘ no, i don’t - thank you, though, ’ she sniffles. she’s tougher than this - she shouldn’t be so upset at such a simple thing. it’s moments like these she especially wishes she had thicker skin - like her sister. ‘ no, no, if you’re grumpy, you should be allowed to be grumpy. i didn’t mean to be ANNOYING - sometimes i just don’t realize… ’
“no problem...” his frown deepens, replaced only momentarily with a light smile, which ( once again ) he hopes will reassure her. “you weren’t -- you weren’t being annoying, not at all; it was all on me. i mean, sure, guess everyone has the right to be grumpy every now and then but... no need to take it out on other people, right??”
“like wise, roman. do you make a habit of biting off stranger’s heads? or just on special occasions?” despite her words, her tone was easy and light, no sarcasm found.
“i try not to, honestly.” he smiled just slightly, running a hand through curls. “oh, it’s a special occasion thing -- only certain people get the pleasure, y’know??”
June takes a step forward, blue hues glistening as she stares at him, heart breaking as she shakes her head, “Roman, I’m so sorry.” Her voice cracks, resting a gentle hand upon his cheeks as her eyes well up with tears, “Hurting you…leaving you was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. Not a day goes by where I don’t regret it.” And it was true. The male had never left her mind, always thinking about him.
His weight shifts once more, face contorting ( just slightly, and momentarily ) with the ache that flares into a sharp pain in his leg. Roman can’t help but believe her, though he’s old enough to know that people LIE. Lie to make others feel better ( or themselves -- though he can’t imagine June doing that. ) He sets his jaw, emitting a quiet breath as his head tilts, barely, to rest in her hand. “You still did it. It must’ve been... worth it, to some extent. You must’ve at least THOUGHT it would be worth it.”

“I’m sure. I don’t... I don’t need anything. Thank you, for the offer, though.”
“sometimes it’s easier to talk to a stranger, actually. but, my name’s mickey and yours is?”
“in a few circumstances i guess, yeah. i’m roman. it’s good to meet you, mickey.”
cocking her head to the side, her mocha hues worked their way around his body, sizing him up. she doesn’t ever remember seeing him around. “what are you usually like?”
he puffed out his cheeks, releasing a soft huff of breath. “...uh, good question. quieter, a lot less... angry.” shrugging, roman offers a wry smile. “at home, is what i’m most usually like, at home and asleep.”
she’s a SENSITIVE girl - always has been. it’s a bit of a fatal flaw, really. one or two harsh words and you wind up with this !! a trembling lower lip, eyes brimming with tears - she’s fighting her base instinct to cry, she really is; she’s just not very good at it. ‘ i wouldn’t take your money, anyway, ’ she murmurs, dragging the sleeve of her sweater over her eyes quickly. ‘ don’t worry about it, okay ?? you were right. ’
the second he recognises her expression his own softens in concern, brows furrowing and brown eyes widening. “-- hey... do you want a tissue??” he hadn’t meant to upset anyone ( when did he set out to do that? ) and though she told him not to worry roman couldn’t help but do just THAT. it was essentially part of his nature. “no, i wasn’t. i was just... bein’ unfairly grumpy and snapping at you out of convenience. that was wrong.”
“It’s fine, we all have those days. Are you okay now?”
“-- Yeah. Yeah, I’m good. Thanks.”
Maybe you should relax, hm? I thought you were gonna bite my head off. If you didn’t want to share the damn table, all you had to do was say no.
“I’d love to, honestly. I’m not all that bothered about the sharing the table, really, free country and all that?? But uh, I didn’t mean to come across like I’d... bite your head off.”
“I suppose not.” Soon enough, she gave Roman a smile, one that wasn’t shown to just anyone. She didn’t quite think she’d feel anything for him again, but the more they talked, the more she did want to spend time with him. Blair just wasn’t sure if it was because of the memories they had together or just him ing eneral. Either way, she was glad to have him around again. “Maybe one day I’ll help with that. Or who knows, somebody else just might.” She was close to saying something when she noticed he didnt follow right away, but kept her mouth shut when she was facing forward and heard footsteps following along. Deep down, she did want them to walk side by side. The thing was, she didn’t know if he wanted it. “Well, are you hungry? We don’t have to eat, if you don’t want to. …I-I mean, do you want to do something anyway?” For a second, she stared at his eyes before quickly glancing away as a hand reached up to the back of her head to scratch it. It was rare for the girl to feel anxious.
He knew that smile all too well; it was reserved for only a few and though he had been sure that, by now he was no longer a part of that select group, the instance had proved him wrong ( and subsequently made his own smile substantially wider. ) “Well, I wish good luck to you or -- as you say, whoever takes up that responsibility. ‘Cause they’re sure gonna need it. And maybe a miracle, too.” Roman wasn’t sure why he was talking so much; he’d gained something of a reputation recently concerning being a man of very few words. Perhaps it was NERVOUSNESS ( that would explain why he could hear his heart in his ears, certainly. ) After another moment or two of hesitation, the male fell into step by her side, the smile still plastered across tired features, eyes bright. “I am, actually. Yeah, now that you’ve mentioned it.” He laughed awkwardly. “We should get somethin’ to eat.” A pause. “Where d’you wanna go??”
