BIO TL;DR
Adopted at a young age due to a bad car accident that left Rose orphaned, there are flashes of warm hugs and bright laughter that are difficult to label as real memories or hopes for what could have been. Not to say that Rose isn't beyond grateful for the home she grew up in, but learning that love could turn into pain and emptiness so quickly at such a young age impacted how she moves through the world. She is quiet and observational, often afraid to participate in her own life due to the weight of her own fears. She tries to open up, but she also likes her routine. Some days she is brave, other days she indulges her anxieties and stays safe at home or at most, seeks her mothers for comfort.
HEADCANNONS
introduces herself as rose. most of the time, if/when someone learns her name is rosaline they are surprised
very sweet and demure, though she tends to hold onto hurt so she may not truly forgive someone even if she says she does
has always been extremely timid, but once she got into beauty, she began to really lean into it since it makes her feel powerful and protected.
she can't remember the last time she left the house with at least some mascara, skin tint, and a lip combo on; nails, brows, and hair always done
collector of all things cutesy, her place is basically a gallery of little toys and trinkets that she's found over the years (some she's even had since girlhood)
lover of stationary; one of her greatest treasures is her paper republic journal with a patina she's incredibly proud of. it houses her "poem a day" notebook + agenda + to-do list + doodlebook
unfortunately my girl does indulge in some vices and while she’s pretty good at limiting herself to a glass of wine or just one or two puffs of a joint if it’s being passed around, her biggest crutch are her cigarettes, so sorry
because of her beauty and reluctance to open up, her first impression on others is usually somewhere between stuck-up and intimidating. given enough time to warm up, people see she’s actually much easier to make laugh than initially thought

when she went to the farmer's market the weekend before, rose picked up some fancy wine and cheese to share with her mother. what originally started as a plan to drop off some hair oil turned into a small basket containing the three things. rose knew there was no 'quck drop offs’ when it came to her family. she would somehow be convinced to come inside for some food and that would turn into watching a show or sitting and gossiping and before anyone knew it, they'd have spent the whole evening together (perhaps this little gift basket was insurance of such events passing).
as she stepped out of her with the basket in arm, she called her mother. when she answered rose said, "hi mami, i'm here! i got you a lil' something so hurry come open the door." she wiggled in excitement.

while rosaline had intended on getting there early compared to the rest of the group, she hadn't anticipated them running late. though they were normally a timely bunch, the young woman knew it would be some time before at least one of them arrived, so she ordered her something to sip on. while waiting for vodka cranberry with extra lime, something in her periphery called for her attention. she gave up on taking a secret peak once she caught sight of the silhouette. "ooooh, i love that!" rose pointed up and down the woman's outfit. she couldn't look away. "is it vintage?"
while out thrifting earlier, rose found a beautiful set of nesting dolls. she'd never seen such beautiful ones in person and was hypnotized by them, giggling to herself as lifted the small, smiling face to reveal a smaller one just underneath. as she put them back in order, rose was able to picture exactly where they could go in her home and scooped the little dolls up. when she got back to her place, she placed them in the kitchen, above her spice rack.
now that her sister was over and she was prepping them something to sip on, she waited for jasmine to notice them (somehow she trusted she would). "do you want matcha or some of the iced tea i've been brewing? it's like a minty green tea," rose asked as she took a pair of glass cups out of her cupboard.

"yes i'm back," rose said playfully as she approached the weschester's vending area. "i just finished talking to my sisters and i think we're going to have dinner together this week, so i'm going to need more beets please." rose did her best to eat whatever was in season and knew her sisters would appreciate the salad she was planning on making. "maybe some extra basil, too."
since she'd become dedicated to her poetry, rosaline had always wanted to expand her writing, but found other forms to be not for her. a few months back she finally incorporated morning pages into her routine and while the approach had been difficult at first, she now enjoyed those moments of pen and paper. on her days off, she liked to do them out of the house- the library, a cafe, today she was at the diner. she liked sitting in the booths and scribbling away. when her mind slowed down, she would peer around in case something around might inspire another burst of prose. she caught sight of someone else writing and her eye fixed on their tool. after taking several glances over at the gleaming fountain pen and its user over the next fiften minutes, rose pumped herself up to approach them. "excuse me. is that a levenger pen? i've been in the market for a new fountain pen and was thinking of trying one." she said softly, doing her best to keep her voice audible, but her tone had dipped to something close to a whisper the longer she spoke.
“It’s atrocious. But of course I already bit into it so they’re not going to give me a refund, but seriously… Is there no quality control here? The coffee? Fantastic. Couldn’t ask for better, but who wants to go one place for coffee and then go to a different place for food? Even if they dont have a kitchen big enough they could at least partner with one of the thousand little bakeries that pop up all over the damn place to get some fresh goods. Or don’t serve anything at all.”
rose tried not to look too overwhelmed by the man's lengthy reply, but her eyes darted around the cafe to see if anyone might help her escape. she shifted her weight and nodded along, smiling as she found some humor in his complaint, though its finality made her cringe. she tried to recover by turning it into a shrug. "they have some good stuff here," she looked at the display case of sweets. "i actually really like their pies. next time you should go for whatever the pie of the day is?"
the paper bag housing a half-eaten pastry suddenly weighed heavy in rose's hand. though it took a beat of contemplation, she made a bid. "have you tried their pain au chocolat?" she unrolled the top and held it out so he could peek inside. "you can try some of mine, if you'd like." the pride she felt in holding the conversation and even returning his initial offer made her speak with a bit more confidence.
as much as rosaline loved the artistic side of her job, she had to admit it could be physically taxing. there were days she was on her feet all day and had to take quick bites of her lunch between clients. these demands didn't mean much in the moment, but they did add up, making the hairstylist ever-grateful for the monthly spa days she shared with her godmother. she was flipping through a magazine when rosanna entered, causing rose to promptly close and toss it back onto the low table in front of her. "hi nina," her voice was light and happy as she hugged her. "let's go get rid of a month's worth of tension."
"You. You, come over here a second." Victor beckoned. He needed to work on his people skills, that was true, but he also needed a second opinion. "No, just, leave that, sit here, and try that. Go on. Seriously. It's stale, right?" He scoffed as he slide the small white plate of biscotti towards the stranger. "And it's not the kind of stale where it's been sitting in a display for a few hours, that's gotta be days old, right? I mean it taste like they went to a supermarket and bought it in bulk and now they just leave it there. Is this really what we've come to? I might as well gone to Starbucks."
being beckoned was one of rose's least favorite things in the world, only to be made worse when it was done by a man. she was too non-confrontational and sympathetic to ignore him, so she smiled blankly and nodded to what he was saying, knowing damn well she wasn't going to try the biscotti. despite him seeming well-manicured and cleanly, rose was too much of a diva to share with a stranger. and while she didn't mind the small treats they served here, she did not want to leave him hanging, so she looked around then quietly blurted out, "yeah! they think we can't taste the costco on it." she gave a nervous chuckle, hoping none of the employees heard her.
