Do you see what happened?? Whether or not you see it as intentional doesn’t matter. The last few minutes of The Final Problem – did you see what happened?

Sherlock and John rebuilt 221b together. Mary narrated the adventure.  They go off to solve crimes together, picking up right where they left off. No questions asked whatsoever. 

It’s the perfect ending to a casual viewer. It’s the “warm paste” Mark Gatiss says BBC Sherlock would never be. It glosses over plot points and questions, literally hundreds of them, and the casual audience doesn’t even notice. 

But the loyal fans – and I don’t mean us conspirators, I mean everyone who claims to love this show – feel cheated. They were robbed of explanations. 

You can’t go back to the beginning as if nothing matters and as if nothing happened.  You can’t rebuild and go back to the way things were.  There are too many things left unsaid, too many loose threads.  They can never go back.

But they did. Somehow. And that’s why the audience feels robbed.

There was no resolution.  There was no climax.  

And you wonder why so many people think there’s another episode coming out. It’s the only logical conclusion.
