GRACE
Grace laughed when she saw Zoe roll her eyes as she buckled herself into the car and turned it on. It was all a dream still for Grace that this was happening and that she was going on this road trip with her girlfriend. She had wanted this for as long as she had been with Zoe and now they were able to do it and her mother was okay with it. She knew she had to keep on top of her medications and treatments but she knew this was something she wanted it to be fun for them without having to worry about her health.
âWhat would be nice?â she asked as she waited for Zoe to tell her, a smile on her face as she backed the car out of the driveway. âI think I can manage that. Iâm pretty confident in my driving plus it makes it easy that the car is an automatic.â Once she was on the road and in drive she placed her hand on Zoeâs thigh and smiled at her before focusing on the road.
this was nice. even after being together all this time, when she felt graceâs hand touch her thigh it still brought an instant tingle of excitement and nerves. a feeling she never wanted to lose. but amidst that, she still felt comfortable with her. one of the many things sheâd fallen for. she could just talk to grace and be her true self around the other girl and be awkward and weird and make mistakes and grace would tell her and everything was okay.
she was so comfortable she didnât even mind driving for a while in silence, well minus the music from the radio. they already knew so much about each other there was no need for the small talk, but once sheâd stop something that would trigger an idea, zoe probably wouldnât be able to shut up for the rest of todayâs drive.
GRAY GRAY
âNope, all yours,â Grace smiled, hands lifting to push the dish towards Zoe. âBut that sounds perfect. Iâm sure whatever you come up with will be great.â Graceâs smile grew, her budding excitement for their future plans showing.
zoe takes the rest of graceâs sandwich and starts nibbling at it. perhaps it was the nerves that gave her a large appetite today, or maybe it was just the fact that everything in her life was finally going great. she was happy. a real happy, not the fake happy sheâd been when dating any of the boys she had. âwell, of course it will!â she remarks with a hint of sarcasm and a light laugh.
GRACE.
âYeah, you are,â she chuckled softly against Zoeâs lips. Grace had never felt anything like she did with Zoe in this moment but she was also still a bit scared. There were things about herself she didnât know if Zoe would want around or if Zoe would be able to handle it. There was so much about her own health that Grace was worried would cause rejection that sheâd pushed people away first to protect herself. When Zoe pulled back though Grace thought and looked at Zoe. âDo you?â she asked. She didnât want her mom walking in and she wanted it to be good for them both but she was also scared.
âno, i just... i want everything to be perfect.â as much as zoe didnât want to ruin the moment, it seemed best to not go too far too fast. she just had to hope, and believe that this wasnât a one time thing. that it would last, and when she looked into graceâs eyes it gave her that hope. she almost melted. âi donât know.â she adds softly. she canât decide now whether or not she really wants to stop, but sheâs not about to lay the decision on grace. she knows how that feels. just keep breathing. a moment, she quirks her mouth into a half smile. âyou know how much you mean to me, right? and how grateful i am that your momâs letting me stay here. i donât want to mess that up.âÂ
LOLA
âWow,â Lola said, her voice light and airy. âThat sounds like something my abuelita would say. Well, minus the thing about sexuality. Sheâd be having none of that,â the girl giggled, both impressed with Zoeâs wiseness and entertained by the idea of her abuela listening to Zoe talk about being gay.
âthanks?â she quirks an eyebrow, unsure whether or not to take such as a compliment, but probably best to look on the positive side. âhey, you maybe wanna grab a smoothie or coffee or something?â might make things feel a little less tense and awkward between them.
GRAY GRAY
âSo, what can I do? How can I make you feel better?â Grace asked, trying to make the conversation head into an area that was a bit cheerier. That was usually Zoeâs role when it came to their friendship, but Grace was willing to take it on for a little bit. Zoe hadnât been cheery in a while, anyways.
zoe thinks for a moment. the hardest part about asking for help was trying to figure out what exactly you needed help with and then having the guts to admit that. âiâm not sure. not until... until i figure out how exactly iâm going to tell her...â would be so much easier if she had a girlfriend but... she couldnât rush that.Â

        â.. itâs J U S T my body, I donât see much of a problem with it.â
âyah, maybe we shouldnât talk about this...â
GRACE
âYou donât have to thank me,â she spoke quietly, her hand still resting on the otherâs head. The position was uncomfortable for Grace - this much personal contact was never on her list of positive things in life - but she was in too deep already.âThatâs what friends are for, yeah?â
âstill, i donât know what iâd do without you. ...without friends at all.â that cliche statement about friends being your family sure was fitting right about now. especially if she had the potential of losing her family. âi still HATE piling all this stuff on friends, but yeah. i suppose thatâs what theyâre for.â a slight smile.
LOLA

Sheâd be having none of that,â the girl giggled, both impressed with Zoeâs wiseness and entertained by the idea of her abuela listening to Zoe talk about being gay.
âi guess iâll take that as a compliment.â a light laugh falling from zoeâs lips.Â
LOLA
âRight, thanks. So want to tell me what has you all moody?â
â yah, no. iâd rather not thank you. â
onlesabesoins:
âWhat, you do not like making out with me?â
âare you crazy? thereâs nothing i like more!â
LOLA
âWhatâs your issue? I was just going to ask if you knew what the homework was for History.â
â sorry i uh... i think weâre just suppose to have our topics picked for our research papers.â
RASHA
âNever, but there are other things you could do with your mouth besides talk when weâre together.â
â of course you would find a way to bring up making out. â
        â i just saw something i can N E V E R unsee! â
