Soooo...

This weekend, I'll be going out of town to visit some friends. We were all affected pretty heavily by the events of the past two weeks and well...it kind of made us all want to be together. So from late tonight to late Saturday night, I'm going to be mostly offline (I'm not taking my computer with me).

And it will probably be until Sunday night that I'm back in full swing (I get home late Saturday but have a Family Dinner thing on Sunday). 

I'm gonna try to empty my drafts between today and tonight and then will respond to anything else after I return.

"Wish I could, but you know the drill...places to be, people to kill." She had no time to waste. Not when the people who had taken Vlad from her were still out there. 

After. There'd be time to indulge after this was all over. Provided, of course, that she lived to see the after. 

Either way, she really didn't care.

"You say you know my pain...then you should know I won't stop. Not til he's avenged. Tell me you wouldn't do the same. That you wouldn't hunt down those that took your brother."

A gentle smile formed and off went her heels.  To still give Ana a bit of room, she chose to lie on the other side of her son, the young man shifting with a slight wince so he could rest on her some.  Neither elder Romanov spoke, simply opting for silence.  Nat just slowly began to stroke Ana’s hair, giving her ample time to ask her to stop if she didn’t like it.

She didn't mind it. The motion was almost soothing and it helped the girl's eyes to begin closing once more.

Sleep.

More than anything, Ana needed to sleep right now. To let herself and her thoughts knit themselves together. To let the rage and shock subside so that she could begin making new plans.

Better plans.

For they would pay. All of them. And she would not stop until every single one of them was dead and the Department was nothing more than ash.

Shane hadn’t even needed to pray for him, Prometheus had simply appeared when needed.  Crossing his arms, he watched as the girl, prepared for a suicide mission, walked by.  ”I can tell you, word for word, what he will say to you in the afterlife if you do this..  It involves a lot of expletives and things you would not say in polite company.”  Prometheus easily kept pace with the girl.  ”On the other hand I can also tell you that what they taught you was wrong.  Yes, twins are close, but I know for a fact that they are their own separate people - not one half of a whole.  It’s perfectly okay to miss him but this is not the answer.  Not when you have so many family members who could need you as a person and also your expertise.”

The sudden appearance of a man was a bit startling, but not so much that it would deter Ana. She knew what had to be done. And she knew the possible cost. She didn't care.

"Let him bitch. He'll get over it. And we'll be together again. Like we're supposed to be."

They were never supposed to be separated. Not like this. They barely could stand being in different rooms. 

The Red Room had known what it was doing when they chose to take out Vlad instead of one of the others. Isolation had been used to control and manipulate the twins. They had to have guessed, had known that they were driving Ana into insanity. Into this reckless sort of mindless fury.

Only they probably didn't expect it to be directed at them.

She at least didn’t seem to be telling him no.  He went and got them water bottles, handing one to Shane’s free and good hand and holding the other out to his friend, expecting her to take it from him.  It would be a good way to gauge her condition at the time.

It took a minute, but eventually...slowly...Ana reached out to take the water bottle from Kostya. She didn't unscrew it or make any motion that suggested she was going to drink it. But she took it.

Baby steps, right?

"He can come over for dinner the night of the game or the night of the dance, and treat you the other—he is taking you out for dinner, isn’t he?” He had better be taking her baby out for dinner before a big night, if he was any kind of gentleman. “I’ll talk to your father first. He’ll go easy.”

Semi-retired seems a bit more accurate.

"He's kind of busy the night of the game. Seeing as how he's playing in it and all. There's talk of the diner after, but I can see if he wants to come here instead." And yes, he was taking her out. He and the other boys had taken care of that.

She considered the proposition, knowing exactly what that little I don’t know really meant and weighing her options. If all else failed, she could at least corner the boy before the dance and slip him a few rubbers, threaten his life, make sure he was safe with her little girl.

"Homecoming is next week? I’ll call Lynn tonight and see what she thinks. You’re bringing this boy over to say hello first, aren’t you?” That would go over smashingly, with two retired assassins for parents.

What? No. There would be no cornering. She really didn't need you and her Dad traumatizing the poor boy.

"Mmmhmm. Next Saturday. Well, the game's Friday night. The dance is Saturday." At the mention of bringing her date over, she groans. "Can't you just say hello when he picks me up that night?" 

Because you know...the less time Bucky had near him, the better. Nat could at least be civil. Bucky...not so much.

"And the dates are leaving before the sleeping happens, da?” asked Natasha in a dangerous voice. “Whose house, Jennifer R’s house?”

"Probably. I don't know." The plan had been for them not to. But Jennifer's parents had yet to weigh in and now it seemed like Natasha wasn't a fan. It wasn't boding well for the boys.

"That's the plan, yeah. They've got that huge rec room downstairs that we can take over."

The other former operative made quick work of the Shadow and Shane relaxed in the seat next to her, holding her hand gently as Kostya spoke.  The young man, who had such bravado before, seemed like it was harder to keep that facade up.  Still, as the boy looked at his dear friend it was slapped back up for her sake.

"<Ana.  I’m going to give you some water.  I need you to drink it.  Can you do that?>"

As Kostya spoke, Ana's gaze raised to meet his. It took a moment for her to process exactly what he had said -- right now everything was mostly noise, kind of like the sound the adults all made on Charlie Brown.

Not that Ana had ever seen Charlie Brown.

She didn't answer, but she didn't seem prepared to fight him on it either. She was too worn out to fight anyone. Chances were if water appeared, then she would drink it.

"Is it also about ‘staying over at a friend’s house that night?’" asked Natasha, using finger-quotes to emphasize her point before taking a huge bite of peanut butter sandwich. "Ah o’t fik sho.” She swallowed loudly and sat across the table from her daughter. “You think I don’t know what that means? That was essentially my excuse when I wanted to go out and get pregnant with you, you know.”

"Oh my god! Mama!" Talk about things she didn't need to know. Ever.

"And yes. It's about staying at a friend's house. But not like that. There's a whole bunch of us..."

"No, only one went on to be a badass KGB agent, and that was me,” Natasha shot back, smirking to herself as she topped the sandwich with a toothpick impaling a maraschino cherry, just like she made when Ana was little. “You’ll get your license when you stop terrifying me every time I let you drive the car, Anya.”

She put a plate down in front of her daughter and licked peanut butter off one finger. “Any other complaints for the manager? Because now is the time. Eat your lunch.”

"It's not that bad! I backed over one mailbox. ONE." And really. That was Bucky's fault. He was the one who taught her how to drive like that. Or so Ana was sticking to.

Picking the cherry off the top of the toothpick, she popped it in her mouth before looking up at her mother. "Not a complaint...but a negotiation...about the night of homecoming..."

Ugh. I have given myself Dark Willow feels...
