It gets me riled up that people use the word Machismo in a negative context. When we look it up in the dictionary we can see the word being defined as males being aggressively proud to be male. But why aggressively prouder where in the word does the root of aggression arise. When we look at its key fords Macho simply means male in Spanish. The word Misogyny on the other had contains two root words that would better describe the oppression of women with the word Misos meaning hatred and Gune meaning woman thus the hatred of woman. In Latin America and people of Latin descent living in the U.S however we end up using the word Machismo to describe actions of men physically and mentally harming woman. When the word should be Misogynist or Misógino maybe it was the way I was raised were Machismo never meant someone getting abused by a man. Machismo is a cultural word that just means a man pride in being a man. I myself am proud to be a Latino male who strives to work hard and provide for my family. To protect my family from harm and conserve my culture. By conservation of culture I also don’t mean to keep women subservient to men what I mean is to keeping traditions alive that while in the U. S’s melting pot can be forgotten while we all burn. If at any point I have offended anyone I am sorry it isn’t my intent to rile someone up over my thoughts or opinions but instead to bring up a concept that wot turn off Latino males to strive to also help woman reach equal rights.
