Loaded (A Writing Exercise)

The following is a scene I have been ruminating on in my brain for a little while now. Perhaps after sitting on it I will continue writing it out January 29th, 2023 “You really ‘ought to rethink this plan of yours Phil” Jane surprised herself with the demeanor she presented given the situation she found herself in. Sure, she was prepared for it; she knew where Phil would look for her, when he would find her, and how he would approach her, but even when you know a pistol will be aimed at your forehead at point blank range there is only so much that preparation can do to keep you calm. “Really?” Phil's whisper cut through the quiet air of the coffee house, “what possessed you to come to that conclusion? As far as I am concerned you are the one who is at risk of being shot” Phil’s voice raised to a mild forte in an effort, as though those around him were not keenly aware of his previous statement, “as well as any of these jamokes that want to play hero.” “Well, where I am sitting I can see that there are two ways that this ends.” Jane shifted slightly and took a sip of her drink before continuing, “either you make an attempt to shoot me or you don’t. In one of those situations you get to walk out of here, and in the other you don’t. Either way, I will be strolling out of here. It's all math, and there is a right answer in regards to your wellbeing.” Phil paused upon hearing Jane’s proposal. Confusion and frustration waged war upon his expressions before landing on something that somewhat reassembled both. “You think I am scared of you? You aren’t a killer Jane.” “Yeah, I’m not. Can’t say the same for my friends” “Friends? You mean the friends devoted to the cause? The ones that told me you would be here?” Jane smiled, “Oh, I would hardly consider them friends after all of that.” She forced her smile into a frown, “you know it hurts when you assume my circle is so limited” “You’ve seen the film, you’ve read the book Jane. The hero walks away and the villain dies where they stand. It's not too late to avoid that fate if you hand it over.” “Well yeah, but what's so bad about walking away?” “What part of any of this makes you think you’re the hero” “Well”, Jane’s finger scratched her head, “firstly I am not the one threatening the lives of patrons at a small business.” “I didn’t… that's n… you forced my hand!” “Even if I did”, her eyes narrowed, “which I didn’t, you aren’t serving some greater good. You aren’t even serving the cause, which that alone wouldn’t paint you in a much fairer light. You are only serving yourself. You aren’t a hero, you aren’t misunderstood, you are simply you. This was your idea to serve your own selfish, childish desires of being someone you are not.”Phil shifted his stance and straightened the arm holding the pistol. “Whatever helps you sleep at night. I don’t care what you think of me Jane, not anymore, but either way I will be needing The Source”. Jane produced a genuine frown, “you don’t need anything Phil, and I will gladly give you all it is that you need” Jane stood up, startling Phil who moved his firearm accordingly to keep his aim. “Now walk away, my friends aren’t as patient as I am.” Phil neared hysterics, “What friends?! You are alone! You stand with no one and for no one! You keep saying that I am selfish but what of you?! At least I have the support of the family! You have the support of nobody but yourself.” Phil had trouble reading Jane’s face as she responded, “just because you wish that were true Phil doesn’t make it so. This is your last chance… leave and forget about your silly mission. It is over.” “I am not leaving until I have The Source, either you are going to give it to me or I will learn to siphon it from your corpse.” “Well, my patience has run the course of that of my friends. Farwell Phil, I wish I could say it was pleasant” “Your funeral Jane” A gunshot proceeded to punctuate the exchange.

hello all three followers I have and am doing a thing for the new year that is listening to one album a day. I’m challenging myself to at least get through the year with it, but maybe it will stick! I wanted to broaden my music horizons even more, and appreciate what I already own! (Which is what I’ve started with)

I’ve started with albums i own on both cd and vinyl, then have moved on to CDs (which has music I’ve never listened to before that I’ve gotten my hands on) then I will move onto my records, then recommendations given to me/albums I’ve been meaning to listen to.

I’ve been logging January so far in a notebook, but I thought it would be fun to start blogging them here!

I’m not making myself give reviews or critiques, but they may or may not happen. I simply rank on a 5 star system that only matters to me (so if this reaches someone somehow and my rating pissed them off, sorry! All from my head and for me) and I lost my three favorites!

my credentials is I played violin for five years and I was in choir for six and I like music. (not very promising)

I’ve already completed January , so I’m going to post that in one big ass post , but moving forward I’ll keep it to one post per album(or of smaller caliber)
