âI know,â Nik agreed with false enthusiasm, âFortunately, those boys make it so much easier on us by making sure we know just how out of our league they are,â she spoke words dripping with sarcasm as she thought about the innumerable occasions sheâd been reminded that she didnât have a shot with any of the schoolâs most popular jocks, regardless of whether sheâd indicated that sheâd ever want one or not. Nik groaned aloud and waved a hand in front of her own face as if to physically swat the grotesque image of Eric and Tilly having sex away from her brain, âI literally felt my stomach try to eject from my body just now,â she admitted, scrunching up her face in her obvious distaste, âSheâd probably provide him with a critical analysis at the end of every-â she wasnât sure what the word was, evidently she wasnât an expert on the matter âsession,â she said finally but her expression demonstrated that she wasnât exactly pleased with the term, it might have even made the thought even more disgusting, if that was possible. At Hannaâs suggestion Nikâs eyebrows lifted and her eyes widened as she tapped on her temple with her index finger excitedly âI was just thinking that- you literally read my mind, I was thinking about sending them to space and if thatâs too expensive, an island somewhere. Then they can whip their shirt off inappropriately all day long- wait, they do that anyway,â she said with a laugh, thinking about how Tristan had stripped his shirt off by the lake just the other morning, much to Nikâs surprise.
âYeah?â she was relieved by the comment and since sheâd spent all of her time focused on Hannaâs face, she hadnât even considered the fact that the other girl had read through the paper a little too quickly to have given it a thorough combing. âYes, ooh I love that,â she was buzzing at the thought of beating him to the punch, âI would love to see the look on his face if I finished our homework sheet before class was even over,â
â fortunately, â hanna repeated just as sarcastically, nodding her head for a second before she wiped the back of her hand over her forehead and said â phew, you know, thank god for that. otherwise iâd be clueless. â she chuckled. it always amazed her just how many guys assumed she, and all other women, wanted to be in their league. as if. but if nik was the kind of girl that wasnât in their league, well, all the better for hanna, right? though she had to wonder what tristanâs thoughts on the matter were. probably the first and last time sheâd wonder what tristanâs thoughts were. â i know, i know, iâm sorry. â she apologised for the image, even she had cringed when she first said it. but somehow nik managed to one up her. â oh god, ew. â she said, going in for another false gag over the idea. â all i can say is, just be glad you werenât here when they were dating. â she said with another cringe. dark days, and hanna had barely been there for any of them. smile spread as nik revealed sheâd had the very same thought. it was nice to know, despite everything, they still had some similarities. â we could make a reality show out of it, lord of the flies but buffoons. â she suggested, â or is that too far? â
she beamed at the reaction, pleased that nik liked the proposal. it was really all she could think of, there was no point in being good at past topics, she needed to ensure her sucess in future topics. â and you will. â hanna encouraged with a smile. â okay, so, is this what topic youâre up to? â she asked, holding up the paper in her hand as she did.
